  • This video is a review and my first impressions of the new remade Daiwa Tatula 100. This classic Daiwa baitcast reel has been remade to be lighter and more compact. I bought this reel so that I could test it out and tell you what I think about it. I take it out on the water to see how it performs with some real bass fishing! 😓Bro... please don't set the tension knob on a Daiwa reel like that. It's called zero adjustor for a reason.

    This is definitely much better than having someone do a macro closeup of every Millimeter of the reel while reading the marketing jargon. Heck, next time you should unbox it while standing at the pond.
    P.S: cant believe how clear that pond is, I don't remember ever seeing that one so clear. Also love the coffee station you got going on back there

    FYI I don’t think Daiwa wants you to adjust the spool tension knob. That’s why it’s hard to adjust. It should be set to where it needs to be from the factory.

    • @thesouthwes
      @thesouthwes  5 месяцев назад

      Interesting. I’ve heard that you should adjust it to where your lure just slowly take line off the reel when it’s open

    • @karsontaylor5044
      @karsontaylor5044 5 месяцев назад +3

      Yes, with almost every other reel brand that is the case. Daiwa is a little different i believe

    • @2873lonewolf
      @2873lonewolf 5 месяцев назад +5

      Daiwa implemented the "Zero adjust" on the new reel models. Supposed to come set from factory but mine was just a hair too loose, side to side play in spool.
      Once you have just the tiniest amount side to side, or just before you smash spool between the bearings, that's set for all lures. Mind you, this is a NEW Daiwa feature, so it's going to be different than past reels. I'm not 100% sold but it does seem to work well for the most part. In the past, you would play with brakes and adjuster to get that sweet smooth feel casting, preventing backlash. Daiwa refined both, adjuster to only control spool play and brakes to only control braking, in essence making the new reels run smoother.

    • @kushairiroslei
      @kushairiroslei 4 месяца назад

      factory setting isnt always the same. You gotta adjust to minimize spool side to side play

    Nice video I am in the market for my first baitcaster. I wasn't even thinking of Daiwa so nice video. I love my spinner reel I use it for everything and I fish small ponds mostly similar to yourself. I am unsure of what to get. Was thinking lew's Speed spool, Shimano slx or a kastking but now have this on my mind

    • @thesouthwes
      @thesouthwes  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you! I’d say that most companies make great reels. Durability is where it gets uncertain & casting into the wind. I had a Lews Hack attack that could out cast any reel! Except I would backlash into the wind constantly and the reel seat broke in half after a year

    • @jonttu9186
      @jonttu9186 5 месяцев назад

      Skip the kastkings if money is not an issue, theyre cheap china junk, advertising better specs than 500$ reels. Dont get me wrong, you may get a nicely working reel for a season or two, at least theyre better than Temu toy reels. But Shimano, Daiwa etc. are quality especially if you start with SLX or Tatula series. Lews is nice as well.

    Is a 100 series baitcaster a good size for jigging lake Erie walleye? I'm not familiar with baitcasters at all. No plans to troll with it, just jig. Looking to pair with a medium/heavy graphite rod and using lead head jigs 1/2 oz to 1 oz. I have a Gander Mountain Vortex 100. It just looks kind of small to me. Thanks.

      Man I keep having issues with my 200 curado... It'll just stop the spool mid flight for no reason... With no brakes, no issues, put it on setting 1 and even a light cast will cause it to fuck up... I'm thinking too light a lure.

    Recently purchased my 24 tatula 100 hg and to be honest I’m not impressed with it. It’s my first Diawa baitcast reel. I have several diawa spinning reels. You have to adjust the tension knob a little bit even though it’s zero adjustment. If you don’t loosen it slightly good luck getting decent distance on your cast. It definitely will not be one of the first baitcast reel I pick up. My SLX DC XT’s and my KastKing MegaJaws Elite are my go to baitcasters. The MegaJaws elite casts like a dream. It really gets out there with very little effort.

  • @djboogiejay1616

    • @djboogiejay1616

      A better reel for baitcast beginners, imo, is the 24 SLX DC XT by Shimano. The Tatula is awesome and I own the 24 tatula tw 100 but I believe those new to baitcasting reels need to learn how to adjust the tension knob which gives you greater cast distance and Daiwa reels are geared toward zero tension knob adjustments. So though Daiwa reels are excellent you’ll always be slightly limited in cast distance. It may only be 3 to 5 feet but that can be the difference between getting your lure to the fish or structure you maybe targeting while not spoking the fish. I believe controlled breaking is more important for beginners and you’ll get that with the Slx dc xt which will limit back lash. Back lash is the enemy of those new to baitcast reels. I threw my first baitcast reel in the trash from back lash frustration. Took me years to try another one. This is just my opinion based on my experience. Yours or other maybe different!
