This is my first spy video of the C8 Corvette ZR1 during first laps on the Nürburgring. The team of Chevy-engineers had some trouble with the sound of the ZR1, because it was louder than 130 dB and they had to change the exhausts for their test purposes, otherwise they would have been banned from the Nürburgring. When that was done on all four Chevy C8 Corvette ZR1 prototypes they could start testing before the rain came in over Nürburg and they had to stop again.
For a first impression, the power and performance of this ZR1 is already impressive at this test stage.
My RUclips Channel CarSpyMedia focuses on high quality car spy videos that only show the model mentioned in the title. I do not show any scenes twice and therefore want to stand out from other spy video channels.

For those that didn't know, there are really strict noise rules at the Ring. Hence the pipes intended to "keep the noise down." ;-)
Well this noice restrictions seems not constistent as GT3 race-cars run totally free there ;)
@@Kazuya720 not on week days
That twin turbo torque is sure to be very healthy.
No match those 345/25z/21 tires out the corners
@@jeffambrose5244the Z06 has traction issues even with the 345s.
Imagine that beast!!😮
GM needs forced induction for those easy HP gains for the roll racers who mod their cars. Lol. Gotta have ammunition to go up against those turboed European supercars and Bimmers. C6 ZR1, C7 Z06, and C7 ZR1 are prime examples of Vettes that have potential to gain massive power with their forced induction platforms.
Those tester tail pipes!! LOL! It drove right past that cargo van like it was standing still!!
They cut away right before the cargo van put a arse whooping on Him!!
hilarious comment lad@@randallmason9687
Yep its turbocharged
Definitely. Those tiny exhaust pipes are a dead giveaway
You called it. Twin Turbo 1064HP
Really like the way you do your videos. Specific cars and no repeat "scenes" . Fantastic!
Thanks!
Z06 sounds like a Ferrari, ZR1 sounds like a McLaren.
Makes sense Ferrari 458 what they based on naturally aspirated just like Z06 mclaren twin turbo same as this
It sounds like a z06 with turbos haha because it is just that with more aggressive aero.
Sounds like the quiet exhuast mode is used for the track vs the louder mode for the street, plus their are turn downs. I am waiting for the US spec exhuast system testing.
Honestly sounds a lot like the ZO6
@@gen1c8rs88that makes sense. The Ring does have a DB sound limit.
Similar to when they were testing the C7 ZR1, they had those pipes on there as well back then when testing
DOHC cross plane crank using the same 5.5L block. Sounds smooth but the mid range has a cross plane growl that a flat plane smooths out much more. Difficult to tell though
She's laying down black 11's at high speeds all over the ring. Amazing! Thanks for posting!
Sounds like V8 with flat-plane crank and turbocharged...
WINNER WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!
Now all they need to do is remove those turn down exhaust pipes. Absolutely cheapens the looks!!
@@nashvillecop1 Obviously the car is too loud für the Nürburgring and has to be calmed down by these turned down-pipes.
The C8 ZR1 is rumored to have exactly that.
100 percent flat plane crank
Man that sounds good
Die nächste Eskalationsstufe!🚀😎👍
LEGIT!! Turbo power? WHAT.
Its official. That is a twin turbo flat plane v8. You can hear how violent the exhaust flow is with the turbos. 100%
Been waiting for this!
Imagine the production car having those tail pipes
EU version :)
more like for the testing purpose only@@jasonsfam too ugly to be on the actual production unit.
@@trk3707its a joke obviously
@RBZ06LT6 yes sir, you are correct. Some just don't get simple humor
I was driving north from GA last week, and I was sure that I saw one on a transport from Bowling Green. It had the shipping cover on it, but you could clearly see the hood and high wing.
It looks comfy on those turns
The GTD LOOKING FASTER
Will be a nice little snack for the 992 Gt2 Rs before it races the big boys.
Ah yes the 400-500k+ gt2rs will compete with a sub 200k msrp zr1 😂
@@AKisboss well its way faster, so of course its more expensive.
@@hasangenc2922 it’s expensive because they are produced in limited quantities and because Porsche can upcharge for their brand name.
@@AKisbossNo shit sherlock
Sounds like 6 minutes. Can't wait to see an offical run.
Sounds like a fighter jet doing a low pass! 😮
Corvette getting interesting 🧐
Oh yes
I love that Michigan license plate!!
Surprised it stayed as a flat plane crank engine. I would've imagined it would've been a cross plane crank to keep compression down and the rpms midrange in exchange for reliability and torque
Was my thoughts exactly. I totally agree with you.
The turbos solve the torque problem, so just lowering the compression is much easier from an engineering perspective than converting a clean sheet flat-plane motor back to cross-plane.
This is 💯 NOT a Flat Plane Crank.
@@2020matrix8 it 100% is. What reason do you have to believe it's not?
@@leonardr6704 lol you’ll see…
it really sounds like a plane. Just a constant whooshing sound as it passes
great vid, clearest spy shot ive seen. C8 beast is eating nurburgring
What sucks is they had to put those tailpipes on cuz it was too loud for a racetrack, and that hurts my soul. Its a performance car, the loud helps it perform
I see they changed to a much taller wing at some point in this
That muffler can’t be stock. Right? Prob did that to hide the real sound
The track noise is limited to 130 dB and this car is louder with production exhausts
Interesting, sporting "Pure Michigan" manufacturer plates, it has one on the front as well - which is not required in Michigan.
Can hear those turbos
ZR1 is going to be a beast…GM, please do something about those side plates on the wing. Sticking up is ugly and doesn’t go with the car. Mirror the C8-GT3
My days this car is insanity!
It does look like going 200 miles an hour probably one of the first incognito lap time
American Ferrari!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
From what I hear going to be right under 7 minutes. With proper gearing 225 to 230 attainable according to power and weight. Whether gear ratios set for that another story. What 775 to 800 horsepower. Going on that same scenario but 250+ possible with 1050hp Zora working on. They did not gear base or previous models for top speed though
I’m sure it “pulls nicely”
One helluva car!!!!!!!!!! World Class!!!!!!!
I need this guys job!
As a guy who owns a 2018 Porsche GT2 my ears perked when I saw a video last week where the ZR1 Chief Engineer said they had at their disposal a Porcshe GT2 RS that they were baselining the ZR1 against during development, but then he said something that caught my attention, he said they weren't so much as trying the better the GT2's track time (Nurburgring prod car record holder at the moment) but rather it's street performance dynamics. Which tells me they aren't even contemplating trying to challenge the prod car record of 6:38 currently held by the mighty GT2.
lol that yellow truck is sure to be your usual traffic on that particular track..
You can hear those turbo sucking in all that wind
Can’t tell much of the true sound here with their noise restriction. With those buck tooth pipe extensions, I can imagine it’s going to be loud.
Still looks weird thin in the front wide in the back like it's pieced together 😅
Sounds like a corvette mmm really nice
They should go with a Lamborghini Murcielago SV style wing which I think would look the best.
$200k plus. Get ready.
MSRP is likely gonna start at 150k. I've got a couple of friends who have allocations lined up from dealers that charge MSRP, so for those who did their research and were proactive this is gonna be an insane bargain. Would not doubt if markups or second hand sale goes north of 300k though.
@@rwilson4073 base yea. If u want the ztk and go carbon its easy gonna over 200k.
@@rwilson4073gm said 120k. Markup is going to be insane
@@rwilson4073 How did they accomplish this? My dealer seemed clueless when I asked my them about it.
@Domo01SS Same thing for people like me who got a ZL1 Collectors Edition. You have to be talking to your dealer for a while. Top dealers know they WILL get an allocation, so it's pretty much selling it to a specific person before you even get the car.
Does not sound like a flat plane It could be a twin turbo it's very quiet
Definitely not quiet. They had to modify or replace the exhaust on all the test cars because they exceeded the 130db limit for the track. All test cars have weird downward facing exhaust tips in an attempt to make them quieter.
Cant wait to hear it w/o the downward pipes. but sounds like pushrod v8 to me. However, leaks said it would be TT LT6. A GM insider said theres another engine coming out and did say ZR1 is TT. So maybe LT with TT?
What was the laptime on the moving truck?
awesome!❤
I saw this test car last wednesday driving from Meuspath to the ring
2025 c8 corvette zr1 sounds like a twin turbo 5.5L v8 850hp
A RUclipsr accidentally leaked the reveal before taking it down. The ZR1 has the LT7 (Twin Turbo Flat Plane Crank) V8 with 1,064HP. Absolutely insane. That means the Zora could potentially have 1400-1500 HP
Considering this car most likely being around $150,000 cheaper than a Mustang GTD is crazy
Its a Damn shame only millionaires will be able to enjoy theses cars...
Looks like it’s all over the road or just a bad driver.
I just dont hear the crazy high-pitched whine. Has GM snookered us?
Oh God Damn
I understand that its muffled but i sure it better than this by production time.
Correct me if I'm wrong but - This is deosn't sound like the flat plane. They're saving that for the Zora?
No this is definitely a flat-plane engine. It sounds like any other flat-plane turbo v8
Curious to know if this is going to have the all wheel drive just like the Eray.
Maybe but i think its going rwd
Should have gotten Misha to drive it
I wonder how much HP it will generate.
Not hearing the real sound, they've muffled the sound with those tailpipes.
Anybody that thinks that sound is not a flat plane crank engine is nuts.
Still dont like the car would definitely rather have a c7z or a c6z everyone has there own opinion i guesss 🤙🤙🤙
Sounds like a 488… you know what that means!
it will be hyprid ?
Why are the tailpipes all gnarly looking?
For sound on the track its not making the final cut tho thank god😂
The track noise is limited to 130 dB and this car is louder with production exhausts
What engine does it use and is it a hybrid?
Judging by the sound of It, It would appear to have the Z06 engine.
It has a turbo charged engine.
Somebody mentioned it was missing the same additional radiator that is seen on the Eray for the electric motor and battery ..
Some say cross plane crank turbo motor but none of us know. Looks pretty quick and sounds pretty slick too.
Should be a beast with 850 or so Hp.
I believed its missing because of the vented hood. maybe there is a larger radiator or intercooler laying more Vmount style inside there somewhere. @@JBsC6
@@JBsC6 The engine sounds identical to the LT6 on downshift, so I'm guessing it might still be flat plane unless they pull a ford and make a crossplane version of the LT6 to twin turbo.
Definitely has awd & turbos
No AWD. Look, no CV axles in the front.
Is it just me or are those turn-down tips ruining the sound?
Y’all forgetting it’s a actual corvette v8 chill
❤❤❤❤
Compared to the Mustang GTD... the Vette sounds rather lame and tame. The Mustang had no issues with sound so must be a particular day.
I do not her no turbo noise
Everyone saying turbo charged I think it’s pro charged 🤨
Nope, there were leaked CAD images of the engine a few years ago showing twin turbo.
Looks really planted.
these motors gonna explode if anyone actually drives it
225k
O som tá muito europeu, eu gosto muito mais dos V8 americanos
Thompson Michelle Hernandez Thomas Jackson Barbara
Such a joke. Instead of camouflage, they should have just pasted “ ZR1 test car on it. “ The only reason it caught attention is because we’ve seen every other model and then these yahoos show up in a CAMOUFLAGED CAR
I hope those tail pipes don't make the final cut.🤮
Those are most definitely for testing purposes.
They are For the noise restrictions on the Ring
Too quiet...
That’s the point. The car is silenced so we don’t hear the engine. It’s not for public facing but rather testing
rip S650 everything ☠️☠️
Please do something about this ugly rear end 👐
And Mopar footage on thus track?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Klingt wie ein aufgeplusterter 4-Zylinder. Schade.
NO F-ing way the Mustang GTD will beat the ZR1’s track time
Zr1 corvette will beat mustang gtd track time
🤣🤣🤣 more cars that almost no person can afford...
Probably the same old 2024
Not impressed at all... Excuses excuses... Whatever
Where's the numbers .. there are none... Know why ? Not that much faster at all . Is it even below 7 min. ???
Americans always got excuses up their sleeves.
The Gtd is getting tested for months without a record too 😂 Porsche will just show up, get the job done, and will leave again.
Awesome Car, but I think the mustang GTD kills it😉
Chevy needs to stop this bs ! And go back to American muscle!!!!! SMH
Back to American muscle and to the back of the pack where Mustangs and Dodges are when they're anywhere but the dragstrip? No thank you.
Need to live in this century instead of the last
Boring
For once I'm in partial agreement with a statement like this. I wasn't against the LT6 as an idea, but slapping turbos on a flat plane engine more often than not ruins the sound. I'd rather they stuck a small-block back there and made it spin to 8K or something. It can be done, and it would sound nuts.
And for everyone assuming pushrod engines are dead tech and outdated, I'd argue that half the fun of a Corvette is seeing a world-class American sports car style on the Europeans _while using that "outdated" technology._ From the C5 to the C7, on the track and street, that's always been the Corvette's trump card: costing half as much as cars it could outperform while sounding like the wrath of God incarnate. At the very least, just supercharge the LT6 instead. Then we get psychotic supercharger whine AND a screaming flat-plane exhaust note.
This test mule, by comparison, sounds like nothing. It isn't a soaring, Ferrari-esque soundtrack, nor is it a heavy-metal aural assault like most Corvettes before it. It mostly sounds like wind noise, and therefore only sounds like disappointment.
Alright, I'll be honest: I hate this. SO MUCH.
We get it. Flat plane crank cool and exotic. The whole time the ZO6 was getting all that attention, I kept hoping that GM would go crazy with the old small-block again. It didn't have to be a supercharger. It could just as easily be GM calling up Hendrick Motorsports and asking them to help out a little. I daydreamed of an 8.5K rpm crossplane freak of nature - a goddamned NASCAR Cup motor sat behind the driver. It didn't HAVE to be that, but it didn't have to be THIS either.
Nah. This sounds lame. By which I mean it will go like stink and make oodles of power, but sound like a goddamn four-cylinder. Just like the 488 GTB. I am now over the "Corvette is the new Ferrari" trend. I want GM to turn it back into the Corvette again. Give the damn ZR1 a rumble to go with its revs, rather than killing the noise altogether, because this sound sucks ass.
Let me guess, you’re 80 yo?
@@RBZ06LT6 20, actually.
You can buy a regular C8 or Z06 if you want that... There are options if you don't want turbo power lol
@@markoon139 You are being perfectly reasonable and I acknowledge that. There are other NA options. GM has absolutely no obligation to cater to the whims of one random internet dipshit.
HOWEVER: ruclips.net/video/ULIyEZvIYRg/видео.html
Imagine THAT in the ZR1.
Look, maybe it drives the costs through the roof to make a series production small block rev that high, but c'mon. Turbo flat-plane is the least spectacular option here.
All turbos muffle the exhaust.. especially when they are cast into the manifold like these are.. the manifolds were leaked almost 2yrs ago.. have you ever heard cars at a drag strip.. the 2000hp turbo cars are like a vacuum compared to supercharged-nitrous cars.. and the ring has strict noise limits which caused the to put turndowns on the car and use Npp type valves in quiet mode..
This may more power than a 70 lt1 350 but I like the four barrel opened it sounds than this one
I want one.
This car needs to be awd, larger engine, much more horsepower, add a more aggressive body kit and stabilizers
