Great idea. I see many customers creating list columns as the gui invites them to do that, yet they expect the field to be used across libraries or even sites😢
Maybe I missed it, but I see how to create the columns, how to add the columns, but how do I add the choice to the document/folder? The data that will tag that document so we can filter it later?
Do I need admin access to make the changes seen in the video ? I’m attempting to create site columns for my company but I’m not seeing all the options in the video when selecting ‘Site Settings’
Great tutorial, thank you! Is it possible to have a List that can be made available as a lookup to all SharePoint sites in a tenant? I currently have to create a new list with duplicate content for each new SharePoint site that we create, which is for every project.
I too would like good guidance on how to make this extend tenant wide... I suspect it will involve managed metadata and templates for sites but would still like more education!
Not a list, you would need to use the Term Store and then you can create a site column that points to that term set in each site. Alternatively a Content Type in the Content Type Hub
Thanks Daniel. Please delve further into this whole area of custom columns, managed and crawled properties, Content Types and the Term Store.
You got it!

Huge value add! Sharing with the team ~ exactly the insight and instruction we were seeking! Thank you!!
Can we prevent the user entering the duplicate combination of columns in SharePoint list?
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial!
Do you have a link that shows how to do the crawled properties mappings to the managed properties?
Great tutorial, thank you!
