SharePoint Document Library Tutorial

  • In this step-by-step tutorial, learn how you can use document libraries in Microsoft SharePoint. A document library provides a secure place to store files where you and your co-workers can find them easily, work on them together, and access them from any device at any time. For example, you can use a document library on a site in SharePoint to store all files related to a specific project or a specific client. Adding files or moving files between folders is as easy as dragging and dropping them from one location to another.

Among all of the Microsoft suite products, I’m trying to figure out if there is a way/functionality that would allow me to save individual PowerPoint slides in a given location that’s accessible to a variety of individuals. These individuals should be able to quickly find or filter, and sort to their exact Selection of slides they need to update on a consistent and routine basis. Next I would need to be able to go to this area containing all of the slides like a slide library of sorts. Then allow me to select specific slides and build instantaneously a presentation from these updated slides. it would be awesome if we could attach meta-data to the slide file and then search sort and filter like you can with word documents, and other files uploaded to SharePoint. I’m just not sure the best strategy to accomplish this in a way that is more convenient than saving hundreds of individual PowerPoint slides, and then hoping to save them in a series of logic backed folders, so that individuals can update their slides in a vacuum separate from the others. It would be nice to have them all in one place and sortable, but still able to see all of them for the person who built the presentation at the end.

Great video Kevin! Thanks for doing those, really helpful. Maybe you can consider a video with basic tutorial how to build a simple document management system within SharePoint using inbuild functionality and power automate? It's a real headache to have a separate DMS solution for small company and we don't want to build more separate systems for basic flows. Lets say basic flows with approvals for contacts and invoices? Would be very grateful for basic heading where to start building those on SharePoint. Thanks in advance!

    Hey Kevin,
    fantastic video once again.
I was wondering if you could whip up a video showcasing how to make a PowerApp out of some Excel files. Specifically, I'm planning to gamify my classroom and am trying to find a way to create a leaderboard and also keep track of experience points and whatever my currency will be in a custom app so that students could quickly check their personal progress. I'm trying to find a way to get my students through the dullness that can be remote learning.
I've never done anything with PowerApps before but I figure that this is something it could tremendously help with.

Thanks for your video. One downside of creating a knowledge base in SP that I’ve encountered is the lack of user-friendly search features. For example, if we use enterprise keywords, there’s no way to apply a filter and have records with x AND y show up. The results always show records with x OR y. I wonder if your team encountered this issue and if so, how you resolved it.

One for official documents that have been created, reviewed by teams and final approved mgmt. Those docs are unedible (within that library will be broken out be various departments), Then another set of documents that will be for those we are collaborating with...docs in progress. Until they are finialized then moved to the more secured docs. Do I need to create 2 different sites to accomplish this, or can I do in one library with different permissions? Thank you
