      Yeah but I don't want to. I don't wanna have to change my life and art because somebody else is a thief. They can lie and cheat and steal and be lazy and I will just keep having a good time.
      In the end, we'll all sit down and take an account. And then we'll see.
      Plus unless you water market right in the middle, they will just crop it out. And then not only are they stealing your stuff, but they are giving it an ugly presentation. You can't win the short game. And that's okay, too we're playing the long one.

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  2 дня назад +2

      If somebody gets stuck, someone else will pull them. If you're alone... better not get stuck.
      Getting stuck isn't a very high danger in here. There are things that are dangerous and that's not one of them.
      The danger is things you can't see. Like it's freezing and windy. You'll go hypothermic in a very short time if you don't have warm clothes and keep moving.

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  Месяц назад +1

      In general, i'm careful of what I go through knowing that I do have to go back. So if it's really tight. I will take tools with me in case I get frustrated on the return.
      But honestly I never let my excitement get away from me... excitement is awful close to the same emotional expression as panic. So even though I am very happy and having a good time. I try to keep that inner emotion somewhat calm. It's been a healthy practice for me.

    I don't mind being in a tight space. The thing that really gets me anxiety up is talking or yelling while in a tight space and just hearing the hard instantaneous bounce back of the sound. It's at those points that you know that no-one outside of that space can hear you. Even if they can see part of your body, you are utterly alone.

    Do you often get hired for jobs such as research or rescue? I would love to hear the juicy details.

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  Месяц назад +2

      We're on the rescue call list. And we do a lot of research projects either directly or indirectly with the government and other agencies. Sometimes it's boring like counting bats. Sometimes it's interesting like testing equipment or technology some company thinks they might use on mars.
      99.9% of cave rescues simply involve the one super easy public cave we have. So it's pretty boring. Somebody will twist their ankle and just sit there and give up.

    • @Zinriusminazen
      @Zinriusminazen Месяц назад

      @@CalvinHikes That's awesome! Imagine being first in line to test Mars equipment!
      Knowing you're on the job, people must feel so reassured. I'm sure most of your rescues are big fans and grateful.

    Hi. Can you make a video about what exactly happened in Turkey?

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  23 дня назад

      It's a good question.
      Basically, what happened is someone had an injury unrelated to caving and then they had to get him out. Both the injury or the illness and the rescue were somewhat not cave related... It simply took place in a cave. So getting the medical crew in and the person out was where they had to use cavers for help and guidance.
      We did an interview for a couple of news networks about the situation.
