Your meringues fell because you whipped the whites too much before adding the sugar, and not enough after adding the sugar. You should also use a gel food colour for meringues, as the liquid food colourings add too much liquid to the mix, and will effect the strength. Fun fact: The sugar in meringues acts as a sort of abrasive, which aids in breaking up the proteins in the egg white, while also acting as a crystal lattice for the proteins to bond to. Source: Am pastry cook.
Wow. I was always taught to whisk them lots before the sugar, then only fold the sugar in really gently without even stirring because that would make them go like Matt's meringues. You sound like you know what you're talking about though. How much whisking do you do pre-sugar?
As much as the monster can be used for Meanie Times, when I played Silk the monster was actually incredibly useful for clearing space on the very crowded board. That may have been because we were playing with 4 people, and I imagine the board would be less crowded in a 2 player game. But still, we started off thinking of the monster as a threat, and ended the game thinking of it as a natural part of a healthy landscape that culls an overpopulated species when necessary.

This game seems like it was designed as a game of sheep, sheperds and wolves, but before publication it was decided to spice up the theme. EDIT: Wait - if the SUSD goof machine is gone... will there be no more goofs?
@@threepoint14159265 They are probably referring to the inclusion of a monster that is a danger to the silk worms, which suddenly makes a lot more sense if you think about the game originally being about sheep with the "monster" being a wolf. Also silkworms don't eat grass but rather mulberry leaves. And from what I understand, dogs for keeping order among silkworms aren't really a thing, but dogs for keeping order with sheep are.
Wait, if the board wraps top to bottom and left to right, does that mean that the whole setting for this game is a single doughnut-shaped farm floating in the void?
The recipe segment made my day :'D I've missed getting extravagant! Also this review felt like the perfect mix of serious insight and good ol' SUDS goofyness (RIP goof generator)
GOD BLESS THE OPENERS! Thanks for those good reviews and sick fucking recipes, you converted me from beans on bangers and mash to onion gravy forever, it's supreme, cooking the sausages in the gravy is a fantastic idea and oh my god I love it so much.
Matt: now that I’ve mentioned the opener Me: no Matt Matt: I feel like it would be remiss of me Me: stop now Matt Matt: after all these years of requests, Me: DON’T DO THIS!!! Matt: let’s get extravagant Me: *dies inside*
Just use a plastic bag, fill it with the eggs mix, and then cut the corner when you're ready to pipe them. It's even easier to fill the bag if you put it in an empty glass to hold it upright.
"Apparently the farmer also wants a wife, which is sad, but honestly not my problem" >< Knocking it out of the park with great gags during cute, devilishly mean game explanations.
Love Matt's reviews, I agree with whoever said this is clearly a reskinned sheep herding game. That said, I do love the worm theme, it's just so bizarre
Guys, I’d suggest either créme brûlée for the egg yolks or add them to spaghetti carbonara for a richer sauce. That was a very soupy merengue though. Gotta be stiffer.
I've seen this game played twice at local game nights and both times it took over 3 hours. One of the times, they just decided to not even finish. Unsure if it was the players or the game, but it did not make it look promising to me.
Woah I just got an Ad on this video? Did y’all turn em on? I don’t have any problems with it by the way, I’m all for you guys making money to continue doing what you do, was just surprised is all!
I always wished to give 100 likes. And it worked! The counter went from 1200 to 1300, when I clicked it. Much love and now I want to play it. Thanks for the Worms reference! Now I feel both old and young. Sweet :)
Straight away, shared this with my mate, adding, "OMG @13:45 you won't believe what Matt said about Takenoko... Not another blummin dig!" (I tell no lie, that's what I wrote, yeah.)
My wife loves Takenoko and I was thinking because of that she'd like this too. Then Matt takes a shot at Takenoko, of course. You'll never be an adorable panda, Matt. Jealous doesn't look good on you.

Yeah, but did your Wormeringues look as creepy and unappetizing as Matt's? I DON'T THINK SO.
Could you use liquid colouring and a wee bit of gelatin?
affect not effect
Totally irrelevant, but I’m always impressed with how healthy your plants look in the background
They actually buy new plants for each review so the greens look fresh and healthy. What lengths these guys go to for us!
Yes! Love the house plants.
Agreed
"Just don't do it... exactly... like I did it. Do something... do something differently." - The sign of a truly great cooking segment.
"meaty little pop-tarts" I think the word you're looking for is Hot Pockets.
"As with real life, the real monster, is Man."
Well. That got deep real fast.

Non Euclidean spaces as a board game complete with abstract horror beast
"Top quality corn-fed grass."
The purple PUPAE! Come on!
Lavender larvae
Mauve maggots
"And the purple...worms"

@@mormegil231 or maybe not....to be continued
Yaaaay! Opener style recipe segment! I've been waiting for this.
Yeh, I don't get why they dropped the opener series. It was genuinely funny and useful. I'm always looking for good games to open the night with.
3:00 Can we take a moment to acknowledge how this actually looks like Matt is knocking on my screen
This game seems like it was designed as a game of sheep, sheperds and wolves, but before publication it was decided to spice up the theme.

With silk worms... well known for eating... grass... and not producing any commodity that could be used within a game about them...

Yes, it really... bugs me too!
Right. The question is whether this obvious "goof" by the game's publisher makes it better/more fun or dumber/hard to take seriously.
My suspicion is that they got a great deal on some sheeple factory seconds and went with it 🙈😂
Fffff... It's not just the reviews. Board games are getting weirder too.
Wait, if the board wraps top to bottom and left to right, does that mean that the whole setting for this game is a single doughnut-shaped farm floating in the void?
Yes
I like how I was sent here by the Ice Team (Bear Chess) review, and I can see the box for it in the background of an almost year old review.
Thank you Matt. Been going through a rough time and your opening in the sleeping bag made me smile a lot. I really needed that.
16:18 The adorable setup
16:46 The hardest laugh I've had all week
"My booooys :'(" lmao
The recipe segment made my day :'D I've missed getting extravagant! Also this review felt like the perfect mix of serious insight and good ol' SUDS goofyness (RIP goof generator)
Never have I ever been more sad for a cardboard box.
never tap the screen again. My heart stopped for a moment there =)
Bloody hell, that cooking segment was hilarious! ‘My boys...!’ 😂
Great job, as always
Pretty sure i've seen those worms, but bigger, before in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind... so these are like baby seals... hmm...
hmmm...
That's exactly what I thought. It's very in keeping with Miyazaki's art style.
The mighty Ohm!
Yes!
100% agree that the art style is Miyazaki inspired
10 seconds into the vid and seeing Matt in the sleeping bag I knew this was gonna be a good one.
"Worms! Ha! What are they good for?" That joke alone gets a like. :,D
You could save those eggy egg yolks for when you're making a egg for a good friend.
So excited to see a cooking segment. You gave me a real smile.
GOD BLESS THE OPENERS! Thanks for those good reviews and sick fucking recipes, you converted me from beans on bangers and mash to onion gravy forever, it's supreme, cooking the sausages in the gravy is a fantastic idea and oh my god I love it so much.
Thanks for another silky smooth review
Goof Bot, nooooo!!! Matt, how could you???
But seriously that bit was hilarious. Keep up the good, informative, funny work, and have a nice day!

Munching on grass reminds me of Mary Berry on Bake Off when she said I'll eat a bit of carpet. Now thats playing in my head like a gif
laughed out loud at the ben in the cupboard explanation. thank you I needed a laugh today :)
purple pupae (because silk worms are baby silk moths) ... tho, I guess larvae makes more sense.
I was here to say purple pupae, but I'll settle for Lilac larvae
ben is lucky to get a whole cupboard, when i were an intern they only gave me a draw
Such luxury! In my day we had a lake!
You were lucky to have a LAKE! There were a hundred and sixty of us living in a small shoebox in the middle of the road.
Just use a plastic bag, fill it with the eggs mix, and then cut the corner when you're ready to pipe them. It's even easier to fill the bag if you put it in an empty glass to hold it upright.
Don't do it exactly like I did it. Do something differently. 😂😂😂
"Apparently the farmer also wants a wife, which is sad, but honestly not my problem" ><
Knocking it out of the park with great gags during cute, devilishly mean game explanations.
I feel like the 'weird dog' is a goat.
Should nit have started shaving during this review - when Matt pulled those worms out his oven, my laughter was bloody and painful 😂
That little 'this is fine' look at the end.
Love the cameo of The Opener intro/outro theme
Thanks for the review, skits and recipe! Cheers
Love Matt's reviews, I agree with whoever said this is clearly a reskinned sheep herding game. That said, I do love the worm theme, it's just so bizarre
dont use liquid colours with meringue, use powder

This seems like an early version of Takenoko. I might be able to afford this first, though.
Woah I just got an Ad on this video? Did y’all turn em on? I don’t have any problems with it by the way, I’m all for you guys making money to continue doing what you do, was just surprised is all!

I love how resourceful SU&SD are when it comes to wardrobe.
Strange. I just watched the dice tower review of this last night cuz it randomly popped into my mind and now there's this
If he had a cooking show I would watch it.
Well done Matt. One of the best SUSD vids EVER :)
Did I miss the explanation of what nurseries are? Are they those things that look like mountains between the tiles?
Goodbye, SUaSD Goof Generator. We will remember you.
Like a songbird gorged with worms remembers a passing summer cloud.
First board game I've ever bought, thanks SUSD
I laughed so much! Ode to the opener was so fun!
I just have to point out that silk worms eat mulberry leaves and not grass.
Matt: The object like every game is to score the most points.
Me: ever heard of golf?
"And the purple... Worms?".
Do you perhaps mean the Lavender Leeches, the Mauve Maggots, or even the WISTERIA Worms?
Thank you for getting extravagant.
Oh god I was so scared Matt was gonna say 175 worms
The intro:
THE SPICE MUST FLOWWWWW

They just dropped the review for the dune game.
I see Jaws hanging out in the background...
Worms, huh? What they good for? Absolutely nothing!
Holy shit that poor robot. Cold blooded.

Eggstravagant
I was devastated when the box died.
Looks like exactly the type of game I`d enjoy. Shame then that it`s been out of print for some time and is unavailable anywhere.
"It's free eggs!"
Can "Oops, all fences" be the name of a new farming game?
Finally got extravagant again. Needs to happen more often. Should start a monthly cooking show or something. I would enjoy that.
nice to see you use the same costume in dune
But will you bump the worms if you walk without rhythm?
Yessssssssssssss we got extravagant
Can't believe no one is commenting on the amazing new animated splash screen.
11:25 spicy silk interesting. Takenoko is my mum's favourite board game
awesome sauce... another Opener :)
LET'S GET EXTRAVAGANT
I'll never stop asking to play takenoko.
You have a problem, man.
Sweet mother of all that is holy, you made something from The Binding of Isaac! What kind of nightmare fuel has this channel become?!
who here is watching this after they watched matt play the sandworm in the dune review

Goof generator! Nnnnnnoooooooooo!!!! You maniac! You tore it up! Damn you!!!! Damn you all to hell!!!!!
I see Big Egg is still backing you.
Those worms look like they’ve been lost in the monster cave for one or three months without food or water
So basically. Perfect crunch munch
It's lavender larvae Matt. Come on...
