Epic Pike and Shotte English Civil War: Dragoons In Dorset

It is January 164, both the Royalist and Parliamentarian forces are maneuvering to establish dominance in their respective parts of the country. Over the winter periods, both sides have been recruiting more men, and the Cornish Royal Army has moved into both Dorset and Somerset to take control of both provinces for the King. At the same time a force of Parliamentarian dragoons have sauntered into Dorset hoping to turn it to their cause. Unfortunately for the Parliamentarians, a force of angry Cornish-men are waiting for them!

Guys, I know it's in the rules. But how can one side realistically march down a road, stop, fire and damage the defenders. Then the defenders get to fire back...or not if they have been disrupted by the attackers shooting.
