Great report. Was a lot of fun. 👍 You should think about using more skirmishers. Don't underrate the shooting distance of skirmishers. This opens the window for light cavalry chasing skirmishers, too. Another battle report would be welcome, by the way. 😉
There will definitely be another video 😁 glad you enjoyed it. This one was about getting to grips with the rules, there are a few things we got wrong but I think we've identified those, so it should've more straightforward next game 😁

Late to the party as usual but I really enjoyed this game. The rules are a very interesting approach, taking inspiration from board games with the card mechanics. I am looking forward to your next Soldiers of Napoleon game.
Great video, well done to you both for giving us such great entertainment. It was great to see these rules be demonstrated. The cards seemed to make the game very clunky and sprinkled Napoleonic 'flavour' in a pretty random way unconnected to what was going on in the game itself. The cavalry behaved in a very un-cavalry way and were clearly unable to force the infantry into square. Having got on the flank of the Hanoverian Landwehr the Chasseurs a Cheval should have been able to sweep the brigade away. However you both clearly enjoyed it and you have saved me from buying it. Thanks again.
Totally appreciate your comment and thank you for putting it forward in a decent, reasoned way, sometimes people aren't as... polite haha. I think i have some quetions over the the way cavarly acted which i hope will be resolved over the next few games, as that was the area i felt we maybe got wrong more than anything else. But we'll see. Thanks for taking the time to comment. All the best.
Thanks Martin & Robin for putting this on. Very interesting rules & mechanisms which certainly add Napoleonic flavour. I love BP but would be keen to see more SoN. What a beautiful table!!👍
Well, that was excellent, a very enjoyable play through and a great introduction to the game, a far better watch than anything on the telly! I have been wondering about this game for a while and I am very pleased to see that it does have the elegant simplicity of rules that I enjoy and enough nuance to give flavour. The card play is superb! Great looking game too , you have a talent for setting a table
Really pleased to hear that mate 😁 it certainly has alot of elements that appeal to me. Glad you like the table, it ended up being quite last minute deciding on the set up 👍
Great battlereport! Been wanting to try out these rules for a long time and this just made them look more intresting. Slowly but surely building armies for the fall of 1813 using warlords epic scale figures.
Maybe I missed it in the back catalogue, but it would be super cool/helpful to get some insight into what you use for terrain. Things like how you make the what you use for long grass/fields, the brush scatter, etc. Great video as always!
Hey no problem, I haven't done a dedicated video but I'm looking at including one soon. With a time lapse of hose i build up the board 👍 the long grass is teddy bear fur stained different colours and the bushes are various bits of lichen and flock if that helps
Thanks very much, it was very much a learning game so we've taken note and hopefully next game there will be less errors but sometimes these things get through, I find it best to try and resolve but if you can't find the answer swiftly either make a house rule for that game or do something that seems sensible. Thanks for watching, we'll definitely be having another game 👍
I'm really into the Napoleonic wars and could tell you which battle is depicted in all the famous paintings! From someone also in the UK (I'm down in the south but way west of London) how would I go about getting into something like this and finding people to play with that aren't pushing retirement!? (The photos on the websites of the local gaming clubs show everyone looking 50+) I've never done any wargaming so not looking for really complex stuff that drags on for a whole weekend, just something you could play over an afternoon.

Really enjoyed the game. I thought I might have to move down to 15 mm, or epic scale to use these rules on a 6 x 4 table, but you proved me wrong. Going to give them a go this weekend,
Great to see Soldiers of Napoleon on the table: these rules deserve a lot more love IMO. Although I have to admit I think the game shines in smaller scales, where you can actually decide where to strike or move to table objectives. Great report as always!
@@7thson726 I really enjoy watching your games and learning quite a lot at the same time better than trying to read the rules cheers for a great game🤠🤠
Ive now played these rules 3 times now - solo - all three games ended prematurely IMHO - VP system is too rewarding and needs to be scaled back to allow more action on the game table, maybe no VP awarded for melee wins, rally and or disruption = no bases. Alternatively arbitarily mutiply the VP break point by 1.5 or 2. Otherwise I do like the feel of the game and the bursts of action with consec special events cards. Some house rules coming me thinks.
Hopefully have another game coming in a few weeks 👍 I quite like the VP system but agree that arbitrary ending a game can be frustrating, I'm coming round more now to the use of timers for battles
lovely looking game... enjoyed this a lot :-). Well played on rules, few things, first card play on turn 3 was 2 orders and the Hannoverian brigade used 3 orders (volley, bombard and march). Missed the discipline test when being charged, or take a point of disruption... also a withdraw move (after combats) is half move plus the dice. :-) .
Really pleased you enjoyed it 😁 looking to have another game soon and try to get to grips with things like the objective cards 👍 it's certainly left both of us wanting more
Some really fun and interesting concepts. The multi card, rallying, events and disruption seemed great ideas. Although couldn’t see any mechanics for supports and couldn’t tell the skirmishes benefit either.
Skirmishers have double the fire range of line infantry. They also ignore terrain for line of fire, to represent them finding better positions. You measure from the parent unit. Effectively they give you longer range.
For supports, I assume you mean in combat? You declare and make all charges with a brigade before the melee is resolved. So you can contact 1 unit with multiple units and resolve it all as one melee. Effectively giving the attacker double attacks compared to the defender.
@@MiniatureOdyssey i was thinking that with black powder you get +1 on melee result per supporting unit within 3”, gda you get to reroll per supports. Even command and colours (a similar card based game albeit not miniatures) has advantages for being with supports. Actually that last one maybe just in defence. Anywho what I meant was when one unit attacks another. Does the other nearby units contribute to the melee or morale by being close to battle or only if they are in contact with same unit. Just wondering if the mechanics encourage you attack as a cohesive brigade supporting one another.
