- The super maneuverable 4++ generation Su-30SM fighter is one of the most successful projects of Russian aircraft designers. According to experts, it is capable of winning a fight even with the fifth-generation F22, the best aircraft in American Air Force.
In the new episode of Combat Approved we will show what superiority in air is. With a stroke of its wing, the Su-30SM makes history of aviation by writing more and more versions of aerobatic stunts, that no other aircraft can do yet. We will make a truly large-scale test drive for the Su-30SM: we will fire its cannon, drop bombs and launch rocket attacks. The su-30 is the better aircraft hands down in a dogfight, however avr depends on the circumstances especially on satellite information, AWACS and electronic measures and countermeasures as well. Thus in circumstances like this, its up to the people in/behind satellites, electronic warfare and AWACS that decide the outcome of a battle in BVR. In all modern air force, military air force are literally left very vulnerable if they get jammed in communication or radar or simple or not aware of what exist near or far. So I disagree with the Russian expert on the aircraft, he should specify in what circumstances and at the same time I disagree with the F22 definitely winning statement, once again it depends...on the circumstances.
Had the good fortune of seeing and touching the SU30mki as the squadron is based in my city and a senior member invited us (group of children ) for a demo of the bird …including some of the manoeuvres just above us.

Sky ballet makes it easier for enemy aircraft to shoot it down. Air dancing antics are only good for air shows and flight instructors. Ask any Ukrainian air defense personnel who have shot down several SU-30s and 35s.

In Hyderabad they did a Air show they flew over our office and turn around and go upwards like a rocket and the office windows and glass doors cracked. I was sitting near the window and working and i can hear the windows crack n feel the Vibration it generated.

Thanks to Russia, their pilot training is vastly inferior to US military pilots. Far less hours in the air, sloppy handling of aircraft. You can see results in the Ukraine, dozens of Russian aircraft blending with Ukrainian soil.

@@Bob10009 it's your best bet, you can't outmaneuver a 50g pulling missile in a plane that pulls 9, but It the missile Is fired at 20nm (if it's an r77 or AIM 120B per say) you can turn around and It won't have enough energy to get to you, plus their booster only has fuel for 30s/1min, if you make them lead you they'll burn their energy even faster, go study some of that before talking nonsense

Well besides the fact PESA radars are inferior in every way and Russia is the only “developed” nation without a working AESA radar. Must be tough getting passed up by the Chinese when the Chinese use to steal everything from Russia. Honestly the Flankers are outdated. Without the MiG-31 lobbing those R-37’s Russia likely would have lost air superiority to a minor nation 😂. The MiG-31 is now a superior aircraft in every single way to even the Su-35 as the Kh-47 and the R-37 are Russia’s only truly 1st world weapons. Without either of those weapons you might as well retire your Su-35S and the Su-30SM as they are doing absolutely compared to the MiG-31.

@@Saphire0437 fighters like su30s dont really need much stealth, although they definitely will benefit from it. atleast the Indian variant has a smaller rcs, i guess. but they wont need to be stealthy. fully stealth jets are impractical unless the situation absolutely calls for it. gonna rack up a lot of cost just sitting idly only to see engagements once or twice in its lifetime.

Reminds me of the first mock dogfights after the fall of the wall between German mig 29s and American fighter pilots, the mig 29 pilots absolutely humbled understandably pumped up F16, 15, 18, AND F14 pilots. When you also think in the 80s the Russians already had helmet mounted cueing systems that only started reaching American jets from 2004 its crazy.
In dog fights and short range engagements, Russian jets are superior. However when it comes to long range and BVR the western jets are superior.

@@jafon9 its true but to also be fair. no one really knows what BVR combat between peer to peer states would look like.
in most examples of BVR combat we have, multiple missiles were fired at the same target. as with for instance the gulf of sidra incident. and with others such as in the skies of iraq. enemy pilots often did not even attempt to defeat the missile unaware they had been fired at. or used wrong tactics for the type of missile fired at them.
if Russia and the US started lobbing Aim-120's and R-77's at each other i think it would turn out quite differently from what most people think. both sides pilots highly trained to defeat each others missiles. this will drive the fight closer and closer. until you are duking it out with Aim-9's, R-60's and R-73's.
the gulf of Sidra incident is also a perfect example of how quick BVR combat turns in to WVR combat. in that incident the first shot is fired at 15 miles, it misses. and by the time a second missile is off the rail. the distance is 7 miles. bandit 1 gets hit 4 miles out. and bandit 2 is then already in a dogfight with the 2 F-14's. he eventually gets shot down with a Aim-9.
i think with aerial combat. a long distance stand off turns into a knife fight in a phone booth real quickly, if the combatants are similarly equipped at that BVR stage.
@@jafon9 this 1000%, modern western aircraft have much better stealth capabilities that allows them to have an edge on long range combat, but once the dogfight gets upclose, an SU57 would dunk on an F22 in a single maneuver lol
@@LodewijkVrije yes but surely we are entering the age of missile dominance. Suspected range of Russian missiles is now 120km (70m) and countries are developing mach 4-5 missiles. To my mind this will render jets obsolete accept as launching platforms. Of course, in this scenario cloaking and detection are equally as important.

The Russian planes can ABSOLUTELY outmaneuver NATO aircraft... but unfortunately for them, they absolutely cannot outmaneuver NATO radar or missiles.
Any Russian formation would be blasted out of the sky before they ever get within visual range, simply because the F-22's and F-35's will have them locked before the Sukhois and MIG's even know they're in a fight.

A combination of manouvers and chaff/flares can do the trick in many situations
But its all on the pilot to perform those manouvers and the capabilities of the aircraft so you have to have experience to do it
we grew up in India watching the SUKHOI Su-30 MKI air superiority fighter . . . it was 1993-1995 if I'm correct, i was just a kid back then when I first read about the IAF planning to buy the SUKHOI Su-30 MKI in a Indian newspaper . . . as of 2020 all 263 Indian made SUKHOI Su-30 MKI multi role fighter are now pending upgrades to SuperSUKHOI® Su-30 MKI (Block II) multi role interdictor strike fighter standards . . . one of those upgrades being replacing the Su-30 MKI multi role fighter Saturn AL-31FP afterburning turbofan engines with new, more powerful & reliable Saturn AL-41F-1S (117S) afterburning turbofan engines that power the SUKHOI Su-35 MKU multi role interdictor strike fighter . . .

I allways remind when I was a soldier making my military service, the day I saw for the first time a Russian Mig-29 in close up !
Thus french and american planes ( F-15 included !) looked almost ... like toys ! Mig-29 really looked serious and impressive ! As strong as resistant ... A true " war machine" created to operate in any conditions ! To respond in any difficulty !

Just because the jet can carry out some pretty spectacular moves, none of these moves would be of any use in a dogfight, and the aircraft has minimal stealth, meaning an F-22 could blow it out of the sky without even being seen. Russian avionics are decades behind the West.

Aircraft vs aircraft dogfighting is becoming a thing of a past, F22/F35 has been designed with different objectives in mind. Beyond the horizon attacks, first shoot first kill, stealth and now F15EX workhorse joins the fray able carry all that additional armament for the forward scouting aircrafts. US and Russia will never go small or 1v1, each side will want to fight from the position of advantage.
@@itsupport191 That is absolutely wrong. It is true that US military complex is promoting F22 as a distance fighter and therefore no need to come to dogfight. If that would be the case then F22 would not be armed with a gun but it is. If we assume that F22 is totally invisible to enemy's radar then F22 still needs to use its radar to track and target enemy's aircraft. Enemy has scanner which instantly indicates that airplane has been targeted and gives needed alert to the Pilot. If Russian pilot would not be able to see F22 on his screen due to F22 alleged total invisibility then Russian pilot would instantly assumed that it was targeted by stealth airplane and it would use available measures which in this case would of course bee radio microwaves and IR device disruption devices. This in itself would create to self guided missile massive problem and it would be quite sure that missile would miss. At meantime the distance between jets would close and at one point Russian radar would identified F22 and Russians would fire against F22 their own missile which would also failed due to countermeasures taken by the F22, because at certain distance stealth is no longer advantage (250 -180 km) and thanks to fast moving jets pilots would stop to use missiles because it is pointless and as the gap would close the dogfight will occur and at that moment F22 would become history thanks to SU supermanoeuvrability which cannot be matched by any western jet.
Besides that remember that stealth is non existent and that radar from above (AWACS) can see any stealth because stealth features are mostly against radar from ground locations.
@@Blaster53 F22 gun was almost removed in the design phase, now it has it but with very few rounds. F22 thrust vectoring i supposed to help the plane maneuver in case there is a dog fight indeed. Still, the modern theater will not be fair and either side when attacking will use number advantage in tandem with electronic warfare systems. I think comparing modern fighters one to one is done just for fun, it's not how these weapons would be employed in real world conflict. Still, I can appreciate a good plane design and SU30 is that, looking forward to hopefully seeing it at the air show.

not be able to fight up close and personal if need be. That is exactly what happened during the Vietnam War when its front-line

where the fifth-generation planes would range ahead while F-15s would blast away with their massive radars. The fifth-generation planes
would use passive systems to detect Russian or Chinese aircraft radars or hits made by the Eagle radars and direct in long-range missiles
fired from the Eagles or fire their own missiles to be guided by the Eagles radar.
Russian aircraft fans keep wanting to make this a one on one duel when a real war is going to be American fighters defeating
Chinese or Russian planes due to superior networking of various platforms allowing various American planes to make up
for the weaknesses of other American planes.

Su 30 MKI was one of the starting variant on which your MKM is based and the SM is. MKM differs in Avionics.

@GoodGuyRuska It's a f*cking fast as hell long range interceptor plane that shoots goddamn hypersonic R37m missiles ( and R77'1, R77m, R73, R27 too). The plane I believe moves at more than 2.8 mach and the missile moves at more than 7+ mach.....
I know F22 is a good stealth multirole jet but the thing is The Foxhound is a freakin flying S400 system.... Powerful PESA radar will get you way before 400 kms... You are basically fucked if you go BVR with that thing... You will eventually run out of all the 120Ds you are carrying ...
@GoodGuyRuska Mig 25 is also faster than any western fighter jets ( fucker flys at 3.2 mach ...) but hey it's outer body is made out of pretty questionable quality materials and lacks modern radars so it's a no match against even F14d, F16c/i, F/A 18 super hornets so yeah there's that....
