On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

@@michelestefanini5466 it is. To be fair I can only speak for the SM since I don't fly the MKM or MKI at all. The only thing changed in the cockpit is the HUD. I know this because I used the previous versions cockpit textures on the new one and they worked fine.

If a fight between two equals is desired fellas, that F15 w /Thrust vect would be ideal imo.
I think it's a mistake not including that with the new F-15EX. Even I've read the fly by wire will achieve similar results, I have many doubts.
The EX was only agreed to because the F-15 production lines were still running and the F35 was late. Congress didn’t want to wait a decade for new airframe designs and testing.

Not sure why they didn't use the NASA variant and went with Canards. That thing is a lot more maneuverable.
@@aeon5566Because US aviation companies hate canards for whatever reason. While Europe has completely moved to canard designs and Russia has slapped them on almost every fighter in the past 30 years, America still goes with the "Just make it go fast and shoot long range missiles, dogfight performance is secondary" philosophy.
You can watch the F18 pilot Gonkey fight the SU30 with his F18 in training in Malaysia I believe. Its quite interesting, they end up nose to nose after the first turn most times.
that is normal export version SU30MKM, not SU30SM with 3D thrust vector, So SU30MKM would be equivalent to F-18, and SU30SM gives F-18 no chance in dogfight.
@@S1lverarrow The Malaysian Su-30MKM has an engine with a 3d thrust vector AL-31FP (like the Indian Su-30MKI). The Russian Su-30SM has a new AL-41F-1C engine (like the Su-35S), with 16% more power.

my biggest concern with TV has always been if it could or couldnt be toggled by the pilot. energy management is extremely important and TV would screw that pretty big for you. but if it can be toggled, oh boy, the options are a plenty

you can assign TV and the ASC mode to buttons, very useful
I’d love to see them do the single seater version (Su-35S). Probably my favourite modern jet fighter.
They're working on that exact variant, but work will resume after major work has been done on the Su-30
I was going through withdrawals without seeing daily vids from my favorite pilot behind the stick
and that's why I think NGAD has to have super-maneuverability, as we've seen, as stealth improves, VR fights will become more common.

Ngad or f22 for that matter would put this thing down from 15 miles out atleast. Being able to turn doesn’t mean anything when getting hit by an amraam
Both of us program, gcap, and fcas decided that super maneuverability is not an important trait.
Only "western" program that appears to put significant importance on super maneuverability is Japan fx. But Japan cannot continue on their own and instead get involved with gcap. Now, it is not impossible for the airframe design to take 2 different type of engine, but that defeat the purpose of joint dev.

This Flanker variant is very impressive. That said, I'd like to se the maintenance numbers on this thing. As we learned with the F-14: it doesn't matter how awesome the plane is if it's grounded because the plane is broken.
Widely used on strike missions you know where. So I'm assuming pretty good. Also shares many parts with other Flanker family aircraft, making logistics easier.
Appreciate all the flanker vids lately comrade GS.
Finally closer to how the actual plane flies, watch the su-37 flights before that testbed finally failed, it did absurd things just like an F-22.
Would be interesting to see how the Su-30SM does against the YF-23 and see if the choice of the F-22 was warranted over its superior maneuverability. I understand we are gaming here but still fun to check. ☺
BVR fight the SU30 wouldn't have a chance. The 23 was not made for dogfighting.

I'm happy to see this because Redfor has been severely misrepresented in DCS. This goes a long way to perhaps addressing this imbalance.😅

The canards are actually correct. On the Flanker, they're there more for AOA control than pure maneuverability.
Correct as it is. The plane is aerodynamically made so that it always want to backflip, especially in turn and the canards are there to prevent thaz by pushing the nose down.
What I love most about this Flanker, is the speed indicator similar to the one in the Mirage 2000. WAY better than the usual indicator in Russian planes, and I find it baffling that American planes don't have either of those.

The fact you only used small bursts of gunfire to down the F-18 over two to three ROUNDS NOT MISSING, shows what kinda sick pilot you have become.
How can you tell if a flight model update is more or less accurate?
By running cfd fluid simulations and by comparing the performance in the sim with real life performance charts
IDK if it would change the out come much, but for most of the rounds the f18 was already turning before you started yours. The last round he was belly facing you before you started your turn. Would like to see where you both pass each other before starting the turn.
In that case he would die even faster as he would unable to jam the wez.
That's actually an advantage if you didn't notice it. Turning just a second before the merge allows you to jam the WEZ effectively keeping the enemy from firing their IRs. if the f-18 didn't turn before the su30sm did, the video woulda been much shorter simply becasue GS would shoot it faster.

Because congress only approved the spending because the F35 was super late and they said get something off an already running production line. No waiting years to develop something. new.
Well last time an American aircraft got into a dogfight was in the 80’s or so I’ve heard. Makes sense to invest a lot of resources in something that isn’t of much use nowadays.
Because Dogfights aren’t a thing in modern air combat. Even classic BVR is going away in favor of highly connected (flight, AWACS, Satellite etc.) „battlefield chess“. The best reconnaissance and the longest BVR shot wins.

I have a possibly nice idea for a next video. German Typhon (Flanker Killer) vs Su-30 but with you flying the Ef2000 as a compitent pilot and see how it turns out. Might turn out to be incredibly nice :)
The Su-30SM/35S/57 also have the R-37 which is an absolute monster paired with the Irbis-E or BARS N011M radars.

So summary, you get incredibly insane maneuverability, but if you choose to use it the cost is shitting out all your speed
I think this should be a series, fight an F-14 then a 15, try a Eurofighter or Rafale then an F-16 and work your way up to a vid where u dogfight the F-22.

The SU 30 MKI has been a dominant bird with all exercise with USAF.
F22 is an sniper, a very difficult bird to target and to achieve a firing solution . The missile technology has improved a lot even the f22 can get dropped if in NEZ.
@rajeshpillai4927 that's not true and has been substantially debunked. It is a very cool jet, but the often-cited initial exercise involved the IAF sending basically their weapons school instructors to fight against relatively new-guy USAF guys. Of course they performed well in that match up. When they met again, the USAF sent actual front-line F-15C aircrews and they were killing the Su-30 in every engagement even with external tanks on, etc. It is a beautiful airplane, but let's not exaggerate.

Su30 is not only good at dogfight but also at BVR, it has very powerful radar, and it will have even better electronics and radar after modernisation called Su30SM2
