IF YOU GET "UNSUPPORTED" ERROR WITH WAV FILES - put that shit through audacity!! lower the sample rate (my native instrument sounds will not work unless I do this)... this was bugging me for a while since I have no audio interface and the "import" function is crucial for maintaining the integrity of samples! Game changer for me... anyways thx SP vids, cheers for all the help brother!
Damn, never knew about that feature. That's pretty convenient for a large amount of samples that would make using the wav converter tedious. Thanks man!
Yeah the most annoying thing about the wave converter is constantly having to browse to the folder your drum sounds are in because it doesn't remember it. I resorted to dumping drum sounds on my desktop in the end. Think this is a much easier way though!
Nice. Additional tip - if you rename the files using certain rules, you can determine the import order. Saves having to do the exchanges. Have a look for "rules for importing" in the manual. Cheers!
This is super helpful for the new comers..Juts bought the SX and the MK2. Purchased one by accident and decided to keep both..Really need some help with navigating these bad boys..I appreciate your commitment to your channel. Thanks for the content ,👍🏼👍🏼💯✂️💈🎯
Cheers for this! It's funny how all the docs I found elsewhere say to use the root of the SDcard, including the Roland manual itself?! Using IMPORT folder actually works.
Great, thanks! Appears samples are loaded by filename, alphabetically (Hat, Kick; Snare)? What happens if there are more than 12 samples in one folder?
Binging on your videos to decide if I get one. When you upload samples, do you need to have a dedicated folder with just the samples that you are using for the track? What happens if you have lets say two folders, one with a few sounds for a track, and another folder with tons of samples? I'm confused about this and how to select the folder. Thanks!
It will only import form a dedicated folder which iirc is called ‘import’ you dump everything in there and it imports them all and then deletes them from the card. It’s very basic, I’m pretty sure that’s all it can do. I’d consider the mk2 if you can afford it, it’s a massive upgrade
really cool video, I learned a lot. I got a sp404 Sx in the flea Market Recently so, I'm learning. Thank u so much... I have a question; what if all of the files are .WAV in the import folder on my SD, and still getting the UnS message .... ?? any thoughs? Thank u for the info again !
Chances are they aren't the correct format of wav, sounds silly but the SX/A are quite sensitive to this. This thread might help - sp-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21113
TY! I'm having a bad time by trying to click a bunch of times on the ¨Import¨ option, however, doesn't matter how many times I do this... My computer don't open this so, there is no such an option to make this... Uninstall and install again isn't an option because I already tried...
No idea with that one man, does the same SD card work in the SP? Only thing I can think is that you try formatting the card again with the SP. Or maybe you accidentally moved the lock slider on the side?
I'm having trouble turning off one beat in having the other play too much pressing buttons just gets me frustrated a friend let me hold his for an up in comin event but I'm not goin to be able to perform live on the sp
So I followed the instructions when formatting the SD card. I'm able to load samples into the new SD card. I have an issue with the output, I'm not getting any sound from the output when I try to play it out a speaker connected to a 3.5 mm jack. The samples I loaded are supported, I see the light turn on when I hit a pad loaded with a sample. Is there anything you could think of that I could check or do ?
check volume, check you are definitely going out of the output (sounds stupid but I've done it before), check through headphones if possible. turn off any MFX - they might accidentally be on. Make sure the volume of the individual pad is turned up - start/end/level - right hand dial. those are all good places to start. Hopefully you figure it out!
I was wondering if anyone could help me out, I’ve just got my sp404a and I’m finding it difficult to load sounds on the banks as they already have the default sounds loaded on, I can load them onto bank E but no others
There are a number of reasons this can happen. Here are some tips/possible solutions 1. Power the device off and back on and try again. 2. Check there is nothing else in the import folder that you may have forgotten about. 3. If you are trying to import files of the wrong bit-depth this can happen. 4. Don't include special characters in the file names and don't start the name with a '.' 5. Format the card using the SP and start again 6. It may in fact just be full! Good luck I hope these solve your problem!
Hello! I am new to sp-404 and i've run into a problem. When i press import + function + whatever pad i try to import my sounds on from the sd card, it shows the display "FUL". I am not sure what i am doing wrong. Any idea?
full means that the SD card is full, so there isn't enough space to grab the files from the import folder and save them to the card properly by the sounds of things. From the manual: "Processing could not be performed because of insufficient memory. While sampling, the sample exceeded 2 GB (approximately 180 minutes for stereo). Sampling was stopped."
@@spvidz But i deleted all the stock sounds from the SD card and when i open my sd card in my files it only shows i have like 8 samples (which im trying to import). So im confused. Also, thank u very very much for a response iv'e been bouncing from thread to thread with now help:/
I'm not sure about the stock SD card you get, mine went in my draw straight away. I would just get a new SD card. 32gb is the maximum. They are pretty cheap on amazon etc. This one should work I think amzn.to/3wv1qa4 Get one of those, format it using the SP and you will be good to go!
Anyone else have a problem where anytime you try to import a sample comes up with the error "The disk is write-protected. Remove the write-protection or use another disk"? Anyone have a fix for it? Ive also formatted the SD card multiple times
Turn the machine off, hold down cancel and then turn it back on at the same time. The screen shows P.of as in 'protection off' - that should remove write-protection!
I feel like I’m doing everything right but I still get the unsupported error. I formatted the sd card dropped three wav files into import same as you then func>imp>1>rec then I get Un5
Did you format with the card with the SP? That means unsupported so make sure you are definitely importing wav files too. Apart from that I can't be much more help unfortunately. Hope you get it resolved!
You'll have to put the files in the import folder again I think and do the process again. I think it means the import folder is empty. Each time you import it wipes that folder so I assume thats whats happened there
@@spvidz After a while of scratching my head I did that a couple times but it didn't import all the files, just one at a time. I gave up trying to do it that way and went to the website. There I got an application to program the specific SD card to have the .wav files on my computer be directly imported on the card. I plugged it into the device again and it worked.
Love your vids!! Just got an Sp-404SX and trying to do this but after formatting the card in the SP I connect to my PC and the SD card is 'read only'... Cannot write anything to it. Can anyone help me with this please?? Cheers
You haven't accidentally flicked the switch on the side to lock it have you? Other than that I'd maybe just try formatting it again with the SP. I've not had that issue before myself
Do you have to do anything to the sd card before importing new samples into it, like do you have to get rid of samples that are already loaded on to it from original purchase? Besides that this is a great video breaking down the ins and out of the import feature. Appreciate you!
There is no SD card in the box, it has its own internal memory. I just went through and deleted all the DEMO samples that were on the pads manually. I then formatted the SD card with the unit, I always recommend doing that first.
Thanks for the video ------- thing i discovered: the 404 will not recognize files with dates in them aka "songtitle 7/9/24.wav" you have to rename the file with no date. found that out today when i was trying to import songs and was getting the "ENP" code
I don't think its because its a date specifically, its because you were using '/' in the file name. The SX doesn't like special characters. From the manual: "You can’t use the “ . ” (period) character at the beginning of a file name. Nor can certain other characters (¥ / : , : * ? " < > |) be used in a file name"
You can make beats with just a laptop. Try looking into getting a DAW like FL Studio or Ableton. If you don't have money there are free ones too like garage band for mac. Not sure about PC as i've never really used one apart from at work
