if anyone sees this, what exactly is the differnece between all the 404s. all i could find was the type of memory card and that the OG 404 degraded samples
404 OG is also a bit slower and you can't copy/paste patterns which if you like using the pattern seq is obviously a massive downside and slows down beat making a lot. Memory wise as well the OG is vastly out performed by the SX. You can have up to 32gb on the SX and with it being SD its much easier to work with, with a computer. The difference between the 404sx and A is basically nothing apart from the colours and a few software updates to help it sync with other Roland products.
do these knob caps for 404 fit on 404 OG, and SX, and MK2? or do they have different measurements? im trying to get Some for my 404 SX, but im not sure if the Standard 404 ones fit on there. Thanks in advance.

I did have a bit of hum when recording but I was running it through a USB adapter. The guys at myvolts said it wouldn't help doing it through an adapter. I've not done any other testing though. Check them out on instagram, i'm not stocking at the moment!
I've seen that adapter by MyVolts being used with a battery pack, i'm curious, not sure if you said it, can it be used with a standard phone charger brick..?🤔
Its probably because the bank isn't pumping out a high enough voltage to get it to work - thats my guess. Might be worth firing them a message in instagram. My bank is out of juice at the moment... Just charging it now so I can try it
so i’m thinking about getting an SP. i’m leaning towards the 404a as I can get 48 months 0% financing with it however, it is more expensive than a brand new SX. do y’all think the 404a is worth it?
They are basically the same man. Only difference is the paint job and there’s some extra software in it to help it sync with other Roland products but that is IT! Same box same MFX etc. Hope that helps
There a fun machine but I would see if you can pick up a zoom sample track 224. Has a few functions that the do can’t do like more polyphony while resampling and play and record at the same time.
Basically, you can't. There are a few hacks out there but I'm not sure how much I believe them. The main one is drop the levels of your samples, have a loud kick and use compression on everything. That might help.
Solid video but the 5 minute intro was a bit overkill. I'd keep the mentions at the end, maybe spend like 30 seconds max just giving a teaser in the intro so people who are interested know to wait.
Thanks man and don't worry I've already had a ton of complains lol wanted to give those guys some air time as they both hooked me up with free stuff. I have added the chapters now too
not sure what you mean by either of these questions sorry man. What software are you referring to? Its also a bit of an open ended question about finishing your set up, everyone uses different gear
@@spvidz like the software compatible to the sp. also other equipment like a mixer or output? Anything I need to know that is mandatory to have when it comes to owning a sp404a
still dont understand, software capabilities? are you talking about what you need on your computer to get the beats off your SP? I just have an audio interface although a mixer would also work. I bounce all my beats into Ableton but you could even use something free like Audacity or a handheld recording device like a Zoom H5
I dont lol. I never usually add bass to my beats, just use the bass from the original record that I've chopped. Its something I'd like to look into a bit more tbh as it can make a huge difference and really fill out the sound
Great insight, also, may I ask you how quickly you could make a track with this and what do u think of the combo between MPC one and Roland 404? Also what is the best advice you can give to someone who wants to use samples but not run into copy write issues when uploading to you tube? What’s the rule of thumb?
The rule is simple - you cant lol. Its copyright and you shouldn't use it without permission. However if you chop, repitch, time-stretch that makes it a lot harder to be found by the algorithms...apparently 👀.. The SP devices work great with the MPC as well as you can use the FX to process your samples and beats
Hey man, plug your SD card into my computer if you can and load them in using the Roland wave converter software - www.roland.com/uk/support/by_product/sp-404sx/updates_drivers/

yup. Tap it out with the samples first, then resample
that work flow
I've seen that adapter by MyVolts being used with a battery pack, i'm curious, not sure if you said it, can it be used with a standard phone charger brick..?🤔
I've been charging mine up to see if it works. Answer is I'm not sure at the moment! Would be great if it works
I had this for about 3 weeks and then got rid of it. The lo-fi sound was nice but overall too much work for me.
Fair man. What do you use for best making?
spvidz I use ni maschine mk3 for all my sequencing/programming. Your beats sound great
used to have one but had to sell it because money was tight!
I couldn't get my MyVolts USB adapter to work with my powerbrick. Any tips on the brick to use?
Its probably because the bank isn't pumping out a high enough voltage to get it to work - thats my guess. Might be worth firing them a message in instagram. My bank is out of juice at the moment... Just charging it now so I can try it
What’s the piano sample?dope!
How do you make beats on the machine and use them to make a mixtape with them
I usually use Ableton to put all my beats together for a tape. There are free options available too like Audacity or garageband
Good vibes and video bro
Cheers man, I've subbed to your channel too! Will check out your vids soon
spvidz thanks fam I appreciate you we can always learn from each other
so i’m thinking about getting an SP. i’m leaning towards the 404a as I can get 48 months 0% financing with it however, it is more expensive than a brand new SX. do y’all think the 404a is worth it?
They are basically the same man. Only difference is the paint job and there’s some extra software in it to help it sync with other Roland products but that is IT! Same box same MFX etc. Hope that helps
I saved hundreds buying a new old stock SX from Japan compared to grabbing the A from the store.
There a fun machine but I would see if you can pick up a zoom sample track 224. Has a few functions that the do can’t do like more polyphony while resampling and play and record at the same time.
Fair man, I'm not sure myself on that one!
Good tips, thank you
No problem man thanks for watching!
Hello thank you for the tutorial i benefit a lot
:))
May I ask you how to sidechain on sp, thank you~~
Basically, you can't. There are a few hacks out there but I'm not sure how much I believe them. The main one is drop the levels of your samples, have a loud kick and use compression on everything. That might help.
Nice bro~ thanks!!
Name of beat at the end ?
Yo man, its the last track on my latest tape:
soundcloud.com/user-100688196/tracks
cheers for watching!
I have added the chapters now too
What software is best for the SP404a and what other equipment do I need to finish my setup ??
not sure what you mean by either of these questions sorry man.
I bounce all my beats into Ableton but you could even use something free like Audacity or a handheld recording device like a Zoom H5
does anyone make vinyl skins for the 303?
I’m pretty sure pavel does too man. He just sent me those because he asked me which ones I’d like to have
@@spvidz ok cool I'll peep it out
i love your videos i just got an sp 404 sx so im gonna be on these all the time!
also if you don't need any of those skins, I would love to use one :]
Nice one, welcome to the gang. Yeah there's plenty of content for you to watch :)
Great tutorial, buddy and how do you go about adding the bass to it? Regards
@@spvidz ahh right Hank’s for the insight. Are there any other devices that work great with it?
Did you sample the drums into the bank manually? Recently got a SP404 but not sure how everyone has crisp sounding drums loaded into their banks.
Hey man, plug your SD card into my computer if you can and load them in using the Roland wave converter software - www.roland.com/uk/support/by_product/sp-404sx/updates_drivers/
Who did you say sent you those knobs and faceplates..?
Pavelxpowers. I also sell knobs on SPVIDZ.com now as well 👍
@spvidz Is it the centre positive cable or centre negative?
Not sure which cable are you referring to? Do you mean the MyVolts usb to 9V?
@@spvidz yes there are 2 options for it on the website
Just did a search for the SP and this is the one it recommends myvolts.co.uk/product/16510/Power_Supply_and_Chargers/Ripcord_USB_to_9V_DC_power_cable_compatible_with_the_Roland_SP-404SX_Sampler (you can search by device in the search)
@@spvidz that made things much easier Thanks! Btw I just bought the 404 because of your vids. Keep it up!
Dope man welcome to the gang!
Dope fam. Subbed!
Appreciate it man, thanks for that!
Thanks a lot man, I learnt new things 🙂
Glad to hear that. Thanks for watching!
Cool. Thx and blessings. We love music 👌
Thanks man!
No problem thanks for watching!
ordered one last week funny you just posted this XD
AANTO haha nice one!
Does this also work on the Sp 555 ?
Don’t see why not. Just resample the drums to a pad then play the beat live 👍
Ooof I need to get a 404 so bad just waiting for a deal to come up online to snag. Will go hand in hand with my MPC 500
Nice man they are a lot of fun! Hope one comes up soon at the right price 🙌
If you have a iPhone or iPad, I can save you a lot of money for the same thing.
Lol yeah not sure what the big secret is. I’m gonna do some stuff around koala soon 🐨
@@spvidz 😆😆😆 no secret.....some people don’t want to hear that shit.
@@ricardomilice2470 haha fair man
is this the OG SP?
No its the SX which is also the same as the A
@@spvidz nice one bro thanks for getting back to me
How do you make money? I doubt you’ve cleared any of those samples
I dont make money off my beats lol
Great video, I have just ordered a SP404 and I’m brand new to analogue production. Any tips on where to find good drum sample packs? Thanks
Thanks for watching. I have some packs on spvidz.com if you want to support what I do
