My client was excitedly telling me about her new boyfriend of three months. He had nearly all the marks of a scam and after a few minutes I had to tell her she was being scammed. She didn't believe me until I showed her the government website warning people about romance scams. The sad thing is she left her husband for this scammer.
Well done. There have been some horrific outcomes for spouses of scammed victims. I'm glad the husband got the heads up about the loyalty of his wife. I know of one husband who was not so lucky. The scam victim was involved in a "celebrity scam". The scammer told her that "it" really wants to be with her but, she needed to get rid of her husband. All the evidence was on her phone during the chatting with the scammer for the police to charge her with attempted murder and she is in jail now for attempted murder. She poisoned some soup that she gave her husband to "get rid" of him.
I came in contact with Three people, who tried to scam me, but I somehow used my logic, I asked them few questions, they were furious, and rude, I told myself this cannot be an educated person, that's the end of the chat. I pat myself for that.
It is not "stupidity". The tactics used against victims are a psychological mind play. Money is not the first topic they go to. There is a period of "wooing" the victims. It is during this time the victim is "lovebombed" a tactic used by narcissists in real life. They manipulate the feelings of their victims and once certain the victims has developed feelings for them - THAT'S when the fairy tales about traumas and disasters begin. The strange stories I have heard victims being told are wild. The perpetrators of the deception create and emergency type drama and need help immediately, giving the victim no time to think about what they are doing. I tell you, these criminals are psychopaths and care nothing about what kind of issue their victim will have for having money swindled from them. There are always promises (lies) about paying back the money but of course it never happens. Congratulations to you for being sceptical, they may never "get" you. It is wise to not judge others because it could just as easily be you being deceived. Some scammers are in your life right now, they just haven't made the move on you - yet.
It's manipulation, they are persistent. They are able to set up and to access documentation to "prove" they are who they claim to be using AI, photoshop, word salad, and their fellow scammer group members. They work in groups where the skillsets are many and varied and they support each other in many ways. It's all incredible deception and some are at "grandmaster" level. The words they use are psychological warfare on the mind of the victim and have stood the tests of time, and of trial and error. When dealing with anyone online it is best to have a healthy amount of skepticism. A great deal of flattery is used to manipulate victims and it works because everyone warms to having flattering remarks made about them.
Mature , lonely people are the best targets . They came from a generation of trusting people and still believe that humans are capable of love . Sad ...there is akways the vulnerable that fall for this.😅
I just got rid of two scammers Raymond Scott (doctor in Syria) wanted me to send personal information to his lawyer in order to terminate his contract !! Second was Christopher Todd Donahue ( peacekeeping in Syria) wanted 1750 in gift cards to terminate his contract too!! I blocked and reported them both !!
Rule number one: don't send anyone online money. They're not interested in you. They're only interested in your money. It's all an act. They pull on your heartstrings.
Desperately want to move to Hangouts or Whatsap, and cannot meet in person, ghost'em. Never send pics! Also, let friend or family members checkout your new friend. Of course, never send or accept money! Thank you for sharing, you may save others. Education of would be victims is the only solution. If law enforcement could stop these scammers, they would have stopped decades ago.
The ONLY thing that will stop them is when the money stops flowing to them. Education is key. Potential victims need to learn that there are very few - to zero strangers that would request friendship out of the blue. When someone does request friendship, they want something from you, be it access to your friend list (for more potential targets). They may want to clone your account (to scam money from your friends). They may want to learn more about you (to help their scam be successful).
Okay, 01:45 Stop right there. If ANY guy sent me a love letter like that (unless it was my husband with whom I've shared a lifetime and has reason to say all that) I would kick him to the curb whether he was a scammer or not. Even if the guy you met on the dating app was legit, that is over the top and completely creepy. A letter like that calling me "my queen" "my princess" or any of that horse shit, and I'd block him immediately.
What's so frustrating about these scams is that it always seems to be the mature women who do have lots of life experience but still fall for them. The letter at 1:26 is an obviously red flag. Even someone that was genuinely in love would not write such a corny letter to someone they have never met before.
Exactly, if you tell me it's a high school girl falling for that bullshit I understand, but a grown woman... come on!! "Come dance on the moon with me" WTF
I think they just attribute that behaviour to awkwardness in a person and they overlook it thinking that because of some immaturity or some lack in judgement of that other person that person has chosen them and that it doesn’t matter as long as they have that person. So in a way the women getting conned think that they are getting the better end of the stick. And they don’t want to risk this unique opportunity of someone finally being interested in them by denying the person money , they think they are strengthening the relationship with money. If you look at the messages in isolation where the conman asked for money, you can clearly see the red flag but when you have been primed and groomed for months , you can’t see the messages in isolation, they are part of the continuing series of events.
Are you familiar with "love bombing," in which the perpetrator wears out the victim with incessant attention? It's a disaster for women who were raised to take care of everyone else first and their own needs and boundaries last. That's who the scammers are looking for. I heard just yesterday about a woman with three master's degrees who got victimized by a romance scammer. Surely some of the victims are stupid; but these scammers look for women intelligent enough, seemingly trusting enough and with the careers to have the money that the scammers want to take from them.
I see these victims as vulnerable and not really stupid. Yes, I understand that they make foolish decisions, but IMO we got to approach the issue in the same way we would approach substance abuse addicts. Because just like drugs or alcohol, love is literaly addictive.... at least the perception of it. As human beings we all crave love, acceptance, validation, being made to feel attractive and valuable, in the same way a heroin junkie will crave for that high every time he shoots up. Both will cause massive dopamine release in the brain and any of us will do what ever it takes to keep getting that release. Its easy to always say that "Oh but I am not stupid enough to trust a guy I never met with money". Well good for you! You probably are not widowed, divorced, lonely or just dying for some validation. These scumbags probably wont waste their time with you anyway. But a lot of people go through those and they fall for these scams because they lack support.
Yes - they need to volunteer at an animal shelter. Or for another charity that has meaning for you. Get out there & meet others - even if you don’t meet a partner - you will be appreciated & have some fun helping.
Yeah, but even a junkie can only be satisfied by the real thing. If you substitute powdered sugar for their real heroin or whatever, they aren't going to get high. So how can a love addict fall for something so obviously phony? Someone who never laid eyes on you in person declaring their undying "love" is no more real than the powdered sugar.
The good decision is if a scammer blackmails with your nude photos, the solution NUDIST colony or resort and those pictures will be nothing to you as a nudist
Sorry...this is not rocket science. All scammers use exactly the same tactics. It's like taking candy from a baby. I wish these ladies would take personal responsibility for their foolishness
Agreed look what we were taught when we were growing up. be careful around strangers, Don't take things from them Ect, But look what these full grown adults do. hand over Thousands of dollas for a person then never, ever meet. Also likely not to meet..I Had special ed classes & only high school diploma Yet I know a lot more then some of these well educated people.
Did this woman look in the mirror while this was going on? I was scammed by a woman who used me to fix stuff around her house with the thought of romance. I spent a hundred bucks to put up a basket ball net for her sons b day party. I was on guard. Then one night she invited me over. When I got there she asked me to baby sit, she was going on a date.
7:03. Scammer says he is going to commit suicide. She hears TWO shots... if she didn't have the scam figured out by then, she would never figure it out.
Scammers are like Lawyers they charge re-cycled teenage Seniors $10.00 per word==look in the mirror and then ask yourself does he want me or my money?????
These scammers are slick! I feel for this woman. These con artists have such elaborate schemes to fool good, decent people. She is brave to share your story.
@Ampere News, at about minute 4:10, you said "He wanted to buy an Oil Rig", but an Oil Rig and an Oil Platform are synonymous terms. He could not have bought an Oil Rig because an Oil Rig, aka Oil Platform, costs Billions of Dollars and is a very large structure where many people work and live
Interesting point. We used the same terms that the victim used in her description. If he told her it was an oil rig, then that would be a good clue to detect a scam.
My mom fell for a scammer. Her best friend and I kept telling her that he was a scammer! She believed the bank account info he gave her. Who the hell gives up their bank information? Big red flag! Same with being a traveling doctor. The one thing that made me yell at her that he's a scammer. She was liking the money and not sure why she would fall for someone my age! At least she didn't send him any money when he asked for money for his sick son. Yet she's the one who tells me not to go looking for a boyfriend. She's still stressing majorly over it.
The sad / pathetic part of all this is the fact that even if the victim finally cuts off from the scammer, their info is usually passed around and possibly the same scammer could contact the victim under a new profile. Many times if you ask the victims, they had this happen before and "didn't learn their lesson". Basically they are more probable to have it happen to them again once this has happened before. It's easier to fish from a previous victim then try to fish for someone brand new. So it's really hard to get through to the victims.
You're correct. The criminals work in groups or clusters. They share skills, victims (they call victims "clients") and even take shifts dealing with victims so the contact is persistent. It's a whole industry and the ones who provide the "scripts" they copy/paste from get 20% of their profit from the victims.
'I'm shooting myself now - oops, missed, shooting myself again. Are you still listening? That one worked. I'm dead now.' Gosh! Crap like that does not work on me. I used to do research for a job and also people would come to me to check the occasional work from students. It wasn't as well known then that you could use search engines to find excerpts from quotes/texts to see if plagiarized from something already published. Gotcha! I don't do online dating but in a comment section of a YT video someone 'approached' me and commented that it was cold where they were too. They forgot that they mentioned a hometown location to me and when I checked their weather that evening, it said 86F. I called them on it and they said they were not home, but working in the Gulf of Mexico right now... guess what? 86F also. Think before you get emotionally involved with a fantasy lover and make a plan to never send or receive anything or give personal details.
@@beryllines3788 Not anything special about me. Just some common sense and maturity (old age). I've also watched a lot of these scam, mysteries, and true crime videos. I was also the only child of a Dad who taught me to not believe everything I hear, see, or read.
I knew a girl who got scammed from someone claiming to be someone he wasn't. Some people are so desperate to be loved, they make easy targets, it's sad and dispicable what these scammers do to those people.
Giving all your money to someone you have never met gets no sympathy from me. These elderly women are thinking with their nether regions instead of their brains.
There are plenty of older men involved in these scams. The teenage boys will use masks of porn actresses and models, celebrity photos, fashion models and successfully milk men of more money than the elderly women.
Thank you so much admin...really useful advice..i have been scam by British Airways pilot...it's really hurt and painful...when found out...but now just play along with him...since January.
I'm deeply grateful to the guy who hurt me for the last time in 2012. Romance Scammers have nothing at all that I would ever want or need. Sometimes I mess with them before calling them out, mostly, I call them on their BS immediately. Of course, they deny using stolen photos, deny being a scammer. Deny. Lie. Deny. Lie. You know the jig is up when the scammer begins hurling insults of the vilest sort at you.
@@mahoganydoormadmindstories That's false. Many romance scammers incorporate their false persona that they are widowed, raising a child alone. To further hook the target, either they or their child becomes ill with a terrible disease or a catastrophic injury from a car accident or work mishap or just walking on a street when something heavy falls on them. Take your pick. The made-up story most often requires steady, copious amounts of money to pay medical bills. Either cash for med bills or in the absence of med bills, the scammer elicits sympathy as they have been down on their luck, they claim to need gift cards so they can get food or phone service or sometimes money for a plane ticket so they can be together............finally. It rarely if ever, happens. Both male and female targets fall for this. Sympathy knows no gender.
But - how can someone BE this stupid..? Of course you do not give any money to someone you have never met in person. If someone asks you for money it IS a scam. No real, normal person would ever do that. And without even checking that this person exists, that his stories are true..? This is so silly!
I came across your comment in a group complaining about your lost funds,I was also scammed too I totally understand how you feel, I was hoping to ask if you were able to recover your lost funds?
It's so sad that these women are falling prey to fantasies! if they could really see the real people behind the images, they would clutch their purses and behave like a Karen calling the police on them if they came within 2 ft of their personal space!!
You are not silly or stupid, they are just very good liars and are experts in recognising what you need to hear t o become emotional invested, think of it. If a liar gets money for lying. There’s nothing that will make them stop trying
I don't know. I've seen plenty of scams that were very obviously a scam. Like someone with a Nigerian accent saying they are from Italy (while being a white Italian) while asking you to buy gift cards and send those to them. This scam seems more sophisticated. I can kinda understand falling for this with the fake bank account and banker calling and stuff. That's next level.
Jessica fox. The web site cover themselves by saying to report anyone asking for money. That’s why the scammers want to move somewhere outside there where they can work on the victim.
And - real men, from first world countries, do not ‘talk’ like that, Ladies. Especially if you have never even been in the same room. It’s ridiculous to believe that a handsome, successful man is going to fall for you that way.

How stupid can you be to believe anything some stranger says on line or on the phone like this, especially when they are asking you for money???
Some scammers are in your life right now, they just haven't made the move on you - yet.
why would you believe a word these people say
I hope karma gets this scammer and hopefully this lady gets recovered from this tragedy she put herself into..
Well spotted. You are one of the smarter types that criminal scammers hate.
Rule number one: don't send anyone online money. They're not interested in you. They're only interested in your money. It's all an act. They pull on your heartstrings.
Scammers like claiming to be engineers on an oil rig!
Don’t EVER send money to someone you haven’t met IN PERSON!!! How hard is this????
Okay, 01:45 Stop right there. If ANY guy sent me a love letter like that (unless it was my husband with whom I've shared a lifetime and has reason to say all that) I would kick him to the curb whether he was a scammer or not. Even if the guy you met on the dating app was legit, that is over the top and completely creepy. A letter like that calling me "my queen" "my princess" or any of that horse shit, and I'd block him immediately.
There are lots of scammers on the dating apps… once I start getting sus , I tell them to f**k off & get a job !!!!
They target vulnerable middle aged women who are not conventionally attractive as they reckon these ladies don't get much male attention?
Surely some of the victims are stupid; but these scammers look for women intelligent enough, seemingly trusting enough and with the careers to have the money that the scammers want to take from them.
no one smart when they are in love, sadly she fell for scammers, so sorry you have to go through this.. be vigilant

These non human things are the cruleless things on earth . im so sorry for what you went threw .
These are still ppl! I hear your dog whistling and for that you are disgusting!
How sheltered are these ppl when they can not pick up on major differences of accents??? Come on!
They target "challenged" victims
Sorry...this is not rocket science. All scammers use exactly the same tactics. It's like taking candy from a baby. I wish these ladies would take personal responsibility for their foolishness
All these scammers lost their wives .....
And looking in the mirror would help a lot to!!!!
When they ask for money, turn it around and and ask _them_ for money, instead. Make something up. An aeroplane clipped the roof, or something.

The scammers are trolling on RUclips too. So beware
DO NOT SEND MONEY OR RACY PHOTOS TO PEOPLE YOU DON’T KNOW!!! BE SMART!!!
Of course if you did send racy photos, you better be in a country where nudity is allowed!
Nothing lasts forever dear
She's brave to share her story but foolish to fall for this scam?
Allways highly educated widower working on oilriggs
@Ampere News, at about minute 4:10, you said "He wanted to buy an Oil Rig", but an Oil Rig and an Oil Platform are synonymous terms. He could not have bought an Oil Rig because an Oil Rig, aka Oil Platform, costs Billions of Dollars and is a very large structure where many people work and live
Interesting point. We used the same terms that the victim used in her description. If he told her it was an oil rig, then that would be a good clue to detect a scam.
@@amperenews, yes, indeed
My mom fell for a scammer. Her best friend and I kept telling her that he was a scammer! She believed the bank account info he gave her. Who the hell gives up their bank information? Big red flag! Same with being a traveling doctor. The one thing that made me yell at her that he's a scammer. She was liking the money and not sure why she would fall for someone my age! At least she didn't send him any money when he asked for money for his sick son. Yet she's the one who tells me not to go looking for a boyfriend. She's still stressing majorly over it.
Show her all these stories - Dr. Phil & Dr. Oz here on RUclips - just search for romance scam.
How she think one younger actracctive men seeking in her pontencially patner.the scammer is easy know in site when they write to someone
It's a whole industry and the ones who provide the "scripts" they copy/paste from get 20% of their profit from the victims.
so sad but i never never belive anyone who sends proof why ??? who does that ??? you never met him !!!!!
scammers is really know get attention of their victims, while me I am not scammers is hard for me to find my Right man
We need more awareness
Any time that you're asked for money that's an automatic!!!!
Ha ha - why does it takes two shots to commit suicide? Never give money to a stranger EVER EVER EVER
'I'm shooting myself now - oops, missed, shooting myself again. Are you still listening? That one worked. I'm dead now.'
Gosh!
Bravo. Excellent investigative skills there. RESPECT!
I am so sorry, I know the pain you’re going through.
Deny. Lie. Deny. Lie.
You know the jig is up when the scammer begins hurling insults of the vilest sort at you.
...You can have a lot of Fun playing with the Spammer after waking up to the con...
They set up a thirst trap with the photo then have words dripping with honey. Women never feel sorry for a man with a hard luck story.
Text or email ONLY is the biggest of red flags. Why didn't she insist on a video chat ?
But - how can someone BE this stupid..? Of course you do not give any money to someone you have never met in person. If someone asks you for money it IS a scam. In reading the love text, I noticed references to '"imagine" and then descriptions of blissful connection. That is grooming.
And - real men, from first world countries, do not ‘talk’ like that, Ladies. Especially if you have never even been in the same room. It’s ridiculous to believe that a handsome, successful man is going to fall for you that way.
