@@alkavadlo , so I invented these 3 one-leg exercises which are half-moon squat, full-moon squat, and NPOS (Normal Prince of Squat). I wish we could do it together in one video (collaboration), but we're far away, so let's just spread those exercises and start performing them because those have so many benefits for our hamstrings, quads, and foot. I’m 48 and has just purchased your app. In my younger days I was active in wrestling and martial arts. My knees and back eventually stopped me from doing it any more. I have always had jobs where you had to be in a fairly good shape, so I’m doing ok. I feel the age, though. Stiffness, lack of energy and motivation. My goal is to get my mobility and strength to a level where I can push myself further. My level now is shaking arms just doing the elbow plank for 20 seconds. I’m glad I found you and your app, and I hope I feel the results. I’m not aiming for the human flag, but who knows? 😊

Mobility was my first and biggest sticking point. I had no trouble going ass to grass on barbell back squats because the load helped push me down into it. But it took me quite a while of doing body weight squats before I could really even break parallel.

There is a great deal with specificity in all strength feats. This is why many huge men are considered "weak for their size" in daily life: pure muscle and bulk does not help much or even sets you back in some movements if you perform them for the first time...
Thank you for the excellent training insights! Your wisdom is very appreciated! I have a quick question regarding mobility… Is there one area of mobility that will lend itself to other areas? As an example, if someone’s hip mobility is excellent, does that make it easier to improve or maintain mobility in the lumbar spine, or ankles? I’m wondering if there is a way to approach mobility to maximize the benefits.
Hi Al, thanks for the great content. Thanks to you I started my calisthenics journey a few years ago. One exercise I would like to do but avoid is dips. I get a lot of pain in the shoulder joints (usually quite sore and tight the next day). As an alternative I stick to push ups and chair dips instead. Do you have any advice or a tutorial to perhaps help with technique?
Thanks! I do have a few videos about dips but you might just need to get stronger first. I'll keep your suggestion in mind for a new dip vid - in the meantime do a search and watch my other ones. :)

That said, why the fixation on speed? I think you'll get better results from going at a more moderate pace.

Hey man can you make a list of 5-6 a full body basic exercises that can be done high reps that can be done everyday like 100 push ups a day just good basic exercises that can be high reps for a good base

I am on week 8 of the Get Strong book.
I have to repeat phase 2 for a few weeks because I am learning chin-ups and handstands!
Right now its going good, I can actually do 2 chin-ups with no band!!!
Handstands are another matter, I can't push up onto them and I'm not sure of the best way
...to approach them. They are the toughest yet by far. Any advice.
Also, I was 42 yesterday, is "Get Strong" a good program for someone my age.
I am doing good except for the handstands. Plus I'm too far in now to give up lol.

How many reps do I need to do to progress in calisthenics?
So. does it make sense to start doing calisthenics at almost 40 years of age? How can I start? At the moment I do classic exercises like push ups, pull ups and squats, but I would like to do something more challenging like calisthenics.

Hey Al, I have a question. If you’re able to weight your squats (barbell, kettlebell, etc) is there still a reason to practice body weight squats?
Of course! As a warmup, for endurance or anytime you don’t have access to weights.
You can also progress to more difficult bodyweight squat variations like the pistol.
Weights are great - but you can still get extremely strong without them 💪

You performed a nordic curl on a fence! If I recall correctly, in a previous video you said that even though they were a bodyweight exercise you didn't like 'em because of the unusual stress they put on the joints. Has that view changed?
Watch closely and you'll see it's not a traditional Nordic curl, but more of a "hip hinge".

@@alkavadlo Regress the difficulty with an amount of hip hinge appropriate to your ability then increase the difficulty as you get stronger by hinging less. In other words--progressive calisthenics. Makes sense!
