    06:32 Before and After
    What is SEALCOATING and why should I do it?
    1. Sealcoating protects and prolongs the life expectancy of asphalt pavement by filling surface damage and providing a protective layer to keep out damaging UV rays, vehicle fluids, and water.
    2. The low cost of regular sealcoating can save you money in the long run. A properly maintained and sealed asphalt surface has an extended lifetime and reduces long-term repair costs.
    3. With exposure to the elements, asphalt pavement over time becomes faded in appearance. A fresh sealcoat application enhances the appearance of asphalt, making it look and wear like new.
    4. Sealcoating is typically done using one of two application methods: spray or squeegee/brush.
    5. Sealcoating accelerates the melting process of snow and ice on pavement surfaces. This helps to protect against water penetration, rain, frost and snow damage.
    6. To correctly complete the sealcoating process, the air and pavement temperature is recommended to be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit for the duration of the application and for eight hours following the application.
    7. Prior to pavement sealing, the asphalt surface should be cleared of all dirt and debris. In addition, minor repairs, like potholes and cracks, should be filled and vehicle fluids, like oil, should be properly removed.

    The product we are using is: Asphalt Emulsion
    What is an asphalt emulsion?
    Asphalt emulsion is a combination of three basic ingredients; asphalt, water, and small amount of an emulsifying agent.
    Why use asphalt emulsions?
    Asphalt emulsion does not require a petroleum solvent to make it liquid and in most cases asphalt emulsions can be used without additional heat. Both of these factors contribute to energy savings. Additionally, asphalt emulsions offer great flexibility in their application since they offer the end-user a great variety of characteristics not found in other paving and maintenance materials. Asphalt emulsions are environmentally friendly. There are little or no hydrocarbon emissions created with their use.

    Question: to NOT leave brush marks do you push pretty hard on the brush and make sure the coat is as thin as possible? Or just a lighter push and a thicker coat of sealant?

    • @SEALCOATINGISLIFE
      @SEALCOATINGISLIFE  11 месяцев назад +1

      It’s all about turning your hands inwards while doing the final pass. Slightly lifting the brush on the far side.

      @@SEALCOATINGISLIFE I don’t understand
      So when you’re removing your tracks you tip the brush so it’s angled and the back side is off (not doing anything). So you’re pushing hard on the other side and removing all the coating you can?

    *Greg, seeing the product swirling out at the beginning of the video was neat to watch. How thick is the product when it is finally spread out on the driveway?? Also how long does it take to be touch dry and then thoroughly dry to be driven on??? Great filming too.*

    • @SEALCOATINGISLIFE
      @SEALCOATINGISLIFE  11 месяцев назад +1

      Every second the material is out of the tank, it’s drying. It’s water-based so it begins evaporating immediately. The longer you wait, the thicker it becomes. Drying time depends on a few factors. I made a RUclips short explaining them. The rule of thumb is: 24 hours to walk and 48 hours to dry.
