On the subject of motion sickness, it can be overcome quite easily over several sessions in VR. If you even feel a hint of sickness, stop playing immediately and don't play again until you feel well again. The amount of time it takes you to feel sick will increase each time. It's called getting your 'VR legs' and it's something I had to go through (I suffer from motion sickness quite easily). Now I can easily do long sessions in VR and I feel fine. I'd advise to never push past the sickness feeling and play more, this can undo a lot of the work on your tolerance.
Unfortunately I get sick after like 2 seconds and that time hasn’t increased really. I just can’t use the joystick to move around, if it is a game I stand still in it’s fine or if I can use a teleport mechanic I am fine.
What if I get a dizzy feeling when moving but only *while* moving and I don't get nauseous during or after? (I mean that I don't feel like puking, dunno if dizzy/nauseous are the right words to distinguish that, English isn't my first language) Also, vignettes and stuff make no difference in this regard
I've dealt with motion sickness my whole life, 40 years of hurling riding in a car, no amusement parks but then I found VR around mid 2023 and tried Blade & Sorcery first and while I was instantly nauseous I still saw that this was something I really wanted to get into so every day I'd push myself a little further into the "dungeon" mode at a time and now I can play damn near anything, running, jumping, flipping and I'm fine. Took a little bit but I my brain doesn't see it as not normal or that I've been poisoned anymore. BUT that's if I'm in control of the movement, still can't do rollercoaster sims but that's cool.
Great advice with the motion sickness. I used to get it, but like you said, stop immediately, wait until you feel better and have another short blast. I was from nearly throwing up to no problems at all in a couple of days using that method. Now I can't find any games which make me feel bad at all. Also, with reference to PCVR, if it's lagging and warping all over the shop you will feel nautious, so perhaps find some lower settings which are more fluid and have another go after a break, but it will get better for the vast majority.
Yea my first vr playthrough i was nauseous and stopped but next day i was fine. Haven't encountered a game that makes me feel like that yet but thats probably just me
I haven't had any problems ever since i had quest 2. But when i played warplanes i think. I forgot what its called but its a flying game. Its probably the only game that made me truly sick
Motion sickness is like your leg going to sleep. The only way to recover is to stop the activity. And the longer it goes, the worse it will be during recovery.
If you are 60 years or above you grew up with computers and video games, hence there is no population now that did not have video games, they are not age restricted apart from the young in some cases, and personally the potential for VR, AR to help the older generation is huge, when you consider that it may help them keep fit and active in movement instead of sitting in a chair bored, i think there is nothing more of value in a younger person introducing and teaching the older generation how to use VR. Do it now before they are to old to learn new things.
One experience that I thought was really cool was "Marshall from Detroit" in which you hang out with Eminem and tour around Detroit where he talks about him coming up. It's just cool to sit in the back of a limo with Eminem and listen to him talk about growing up in Detroit! So many videos though! There was a pole dancing show that you could experience which was amazing (and not for the reasons you think - get your head out of the gutter!). They had a lot of videos including showing them training for their shows. VR is so much more than games.....

When I first started playing VR I got a little motion sickness. I only played seated games like elite dangerous or racing simulators for the first week then moved to games with a little movement before progressing on to games where you're moving around a lot. It doesn't take long for your body to adjust and stopping as soon as you feel sick really does help you build a stronger tolerance. Took me about 2 weeks in total to be able to play long sessions without any sickness feeling.
One trick I found for motion sickness is when I start to feel it i take long slow controlled breaths, exhaling from my mouth, and concentrate on my breathing. This will usually stop it and makes getting comfortable with VR much easier. I did not come up with this, I read it somewhere years ago and was surprised how well it works. As someone else noted you will get your VR legs over time and it will be less of an issue.
I am one of the lucky few who has never really had issues with motion sickness in VR, the first time I tried VR it was a friend who brought an old headset over for me to try and see if I wanted to keep, he suggested I don't use smooth locomotion or turning, but I decided to try it and just didn't have any problems with it. I feel quite lucky to have not had issues with it as I hear it can be terrible. I can get slight motion sickness if I spend a long time in games and move around very quickly, I don't think anyone ever becomes 100% immune to it, just better and better tolerance.
After flying FPV racing drones for years, VR was the next natural step. My 1st VR headset( aside from Google cardboard and other phone types) was a Samsung Odyssey 2. It was really good but clunky. I just picked up a Quest 3 and am loving it! DCS is awesome in VR!!

Just order my quest 3 yesterday. Will be my first vr headset. The tech is finally far enough I feel it wount become a paperweight. Excited to see how well it pairs with my 7800x3d 4090 pc.
@lukadabuca its a whole new level. You really don't know what its like until you actually put one on and experience it. I am disappointed with the passthrough quality its too noisy and lights are blown out, that could be fixed if the iso would adjust lower. And my wifi isn't good enough for wireless pc link but with a link cable I have been using oculus link to the pc and then steamlink from oculus link to get access to those two libraries and my pc hardware. It's been smooth for games that are designed to run on this type of headset/controllers but a headache on those that are not. (Apollo 11, skyrim vr). But I like it enough to have invested in a binbok battery headstap, ice facial interface. Prescription lense inserts. Hand straps, and over a dozen games already.
I got one of these but a lot of VR games are totally forgettable. Of the ones I’ve played, walkabout mini golf is the best and I find it incredibly well done all around.
Good video dude, just got a quest 3. I had PSVR years ago but I was so sick because I tried pushing through and then I got sick every time, even thinking or reading about VR made me sick. 8 years laster I'm ready to try again🤞
I don't usually get motion sickness. Use to Skateboard down steep ramps when I was a kid so the rollercoaster thing was cool. I did get slightly light headed but only after I took the headset off. Now if you want something even faster and crazier I modded Doom Eternal to work in VR. Doesn't turn the game in a VR experience it more so shows you a flat screen of the game in VR and you play with Keyboard and mouse. Now that actually gave me motion sickness. I was not ready for that at all.
Biggest mistake in 2016 after splurging on an HTC Vive and a GTX 980 Ti was doing Roller Coaster rides. I puked my guts out. The following day I played Emily Wants to Play and screamed so darn loud the neighbor in a total panic came knocking at my door.
I never play games. I use mine for watching videos and writing code on my laptops. I just started walking around with my headset on so I don't have to stop what I'm doing. You have increased my interest in trying games though. I keep mine on for hours without feeling motion sickness at all. I also have a Q2, which isn't good enough at passthrough to work with but it's good enough for videos.
If you get motion sick in VR try pacing in place when you are walking in VR so you are tricking the brain. Another one for new VR users is take lots of brakes. Also don't use the motion sickness thingys in the games everyone i have talk to have said it makes it worse and i tend to agree.
New Subscriber and waiting on my Quest 3 that I ordered yesterday to arrive(hopefully in the next couple of days or so). It's my fifth headset as I started with the Oculus Rift DK1, then on to the OSVR HDK2 and 2 HTC-Vives. Figured that since the Quest 3 offers a lot for the money, it was time for an upgrade. Great video.
As someone who’s done aerobatics in planes and had never suffered motion sickness in 35 years. So much so I really didn’t understand how anyone could get it. Well I do now since vr, not that I get sick or have to stop, but I can feel it sometimes when I almost loose balance because of it and yeah it’s a weird feeling.
From my experience, you can help the vr motion sickness the same way you take care of regular motion sickness, take dramamine or a pill for motion sickness, it really works!
I just got my quest 3 yesterday, first encounters was so good ! But how do i get first steps and these other basic learning games, im struggling to navigate a little bit
I know most people will say WTF but to help with motion sickness Ginger Snap biscuits Ginger help ease the stomach and the effects of nausea its why a lot of pregnant women use it.
I want this. I've not owned one but I've been watching this and trying out this tech closely. I'm thinking about hiking, carefully with it. I'd like to see if there is anything there. I wish more people would add to Google Earth with it. Just wander around and map our planet, with vr and mr.
Nice advice for the motion sickness, I'll try it out and hope it works! I'm day 5 with the Quest 3 and the first 2 days were cool. Day 3 though I watched a 360 roller coaster youtube video and well, turns out that was a BAD idea. Motion sickness was killer and ruined the rest of my day. Day 4 and 5 I tried watching an immersive movie and the motion sickness kicked it again. Seems like that roller coaster video did something to me. I truly truly hope it goes away in time otherwise the VR aspect won't be for me. Passthrough helps a lot though.
July 2024-I've been trying to follow the in-game guides and instructions for the Meta Quest 3 but it keeps bogging down and just stopping. I was in the middle of "Find 3 red balls in the environment" and after the 2nd ball, the controllers stopped doing ANYTHING. I was just stuck. I tried turning it off and on again, and finally just quit the guide. Also I think they fail to consider that while a lot of actions would be intuitive some just AREN'T. For example the First Hands Tutorial basically busted right at the start. It showed me about ' do you want to see this warning again" and I was able to switch one option from no to yes, but then when I tried to activate the Play button....What do I do? do I swipe? do I click? do I Tap? Do I press a button on the controller? Do I press the control stick? Do I move the control stick? I pressed and moved and wiggled everything possible and couldn't get the First Hand hand/controller movement tutorial to even start. Some games, when they notice no input for a certain period of time, will prompt you with what to do. I got nothing. I was just stuck in the intro to a tutorial with ghost hands that did nothing. I'm into my 2nd day of owning a Quest 3 and all I've had are disappointments. The only good thing has been sitting in the environment mode and looking at static photos of star-scapes or watching a streamer in VD in a home theatre. But I can do that with my desk monitor. Last but not least, Where are the instructions for moving around in VRChat? Like seriously, how does a person find out without scrolling through half of youtube?!? I had to go to youtube to figure out how to navigate just in the immersive environment. Granted, I might have figured it out eventually, but I've had to put on and take off the headset so much, trying to get Virtual Desktop working, and trying to get it connected. Honestly, if it weren't for RUclips content creators like you, I'd be completely unable to use this device to its potential. I guess I just expected more definitive instructions and concrete guidance out of the box for a $500 device. LOL, Love the story about your Mum. I'm Def gonna get a roller coaster app! Thanks for the tips.
Just got one, and what I'm noticing is that I'm getting balance issues if I play standing up. How do I avoid that besides sitting down while playing? I wanna play standing!
So for motion sickness, if I'm intending to use VR for PCVR games like sim racing or sim flying where I'm basically seated in a fixed cockpit, holding a steering wheel or joysticks, it's essentially a form of centre-ing, right? I mean, I'm seated. The only things moving are my head, my arms and maybe my feet. My body is in an immovable seat.
Thanks for this nice video. I am interested in the video / film possibilities of the quest 3. I would love to use it to watch Netflix. Is that realistic?
I wish someone would show other games. I’ve seen the difference between this and psvr2 and that is better for games from what I read and this is better for other stuff. But what is other stuff? Is there cool games to play on m3. I get it’s probably cool to mess around in mixed and vr but the games is what I want to know more about and can’t really find much
I just ordered a quest 3. I owned a Quest 1 which died mid last year, and I haven't played VR since then. Will I still have my "VR legs" or will I go back to being super sensitive to motion sickness like I was back when the quest 1 came out?
Yeah. Didn't help me either. But teleport and snap turn help. As does choosing your games carefully. Have to choose the limited motion ones first and level up over time.

Can't wait to try out those music apps and the painting app!! Didn't even know some of that stuff was possible, thanks again!
I'm new to VR and purchased a quest 3 but I'm not having a good experience to be fair. I'm finding games sooo unfocused or blurry unless I'm stood right in front of what I'm shooting or looking at. Perhaps I expected better but anything over say 10 feet in front of you is garbage quility.

As for the Vader games, I was seriously, seriously disappointed to discover that THEY ARE RAIL GAMES. I repeat, RAIL GAMES. As in, for a good portion of the game, YOU ARE FORCIBLY BEING MOVED ON A RAIL. IN VR I can’t imagine anything less appropriate for virtual reality than a game that controls your movement.
I just purchased a vr headset, partly because of what it is and I was told you can test the games out as many times as you like free of charge. However since I am new to this I cant see more than a few games that are free. Do you have a tutorial for this?

Hey! Was it okay this time around?
There are church groups in RecRoom and VRChat where you can meet people who are maybe a little tamer than the general population.
Vr helped me meet friends so thats dope
getting my quest 3 in 2 days cant wait
First headset?
no had the quest 2 but it broke lol

Resident Evil 4 in VR is so amazing
Biggest mistake in 2016 after splurging on an HTC Vive and a GTX 980 Ti was doing Roller Coaster rides. I puked my guts out. The following day I played Emily Wants to Play and screamed so darn loud the neighbor in a total panic came knocking at my door.
Imagine playing in future YuGiOh on VR
One game I would recommend to introduce someone (or yourself) to the VR experience is Drunken Bar fight...good way to work off some aggression too lol
Bro really said:
"Do you know who else is experiencing vr? MY MOOOM!"
Well she's English so she is technically my "Muuuum"..
I like to stand up on roller coaster games.
Thanks for the tips, my quest 3 is suposed to arrive next week, your video came in a really nice time!
Hey maybe is it here yet
buiding furniture! . Table Saw and Home Family Surgery mixed reality horror games!
Wait for all 3 vader games to go on sale, you can get all 3 for 10$, worth it at that point
Had absolutely no idea Alexander Gustafsson had a youtube channel. Amazing.
He's a bit harder than me 😂
I just got my quest 3 yesterday, first encounters was so good ! But how do i get first steps and these other basic learning games, im struggling to navigate a little bit
I know most people will say WTF but to help with motion sickness Ginger Snap biscuits Ginger help ease the stomach and the effects of nausea its why a lot of pregnant women use it.
Well done you explained it to a noob very well .
So keep up the good work 👏
I want this. I've not owned one but I've been watching this and trying out this tech closely. I'm thinking about hiking, carefully with it. I'd like to see if there is anything there. I wish more people would add to Google Earth with it. Just wander around and map our planet, with vr and mr.
BLASTION game is really good
if you do deep breathing it helps motion sickness
I have played my headset for a year now it is a rift s and i have never experienced motion sickness including when it had huge moments of low FPS
Samuel Jones, there is a very cool mixed reality game in the quest 3 called espire 2. It is where you shoot enemies in your real house!
Motion Sickness hit me hard when standing up.
The only reason I hate vr headsets: *says money mr krabs Impression* MONEY🦀
I use rookie sideloader to test games before buying them
So useful, thank you!
Great tips! Thank you!!!
My first quest 3 arrives in a few days, before i used psvr first gen,i hope its a huge jump in lens quality
chug it out.. chug chug chug..
Thanks for the tips.
engaging with the video!
Thanks this was helpful 👍
Just got one, and what I'm noticing is that I'm getting balance issues if I play standing up. How do I avoid that besides sitting down while playing? I wanna play standing!
Thanks for the tips
U said VR Legs? And didn’t talk about it? 😂 on 4:55
GORILLA TAG
So for motion sickness, if I'm intending to use VR for PCVR games like sim racing or sim flying where I'm basically seated in a fixed cockpit, holding a steering wheel or joysticks, it's essentially a form of centre-ing, right? I mean, I'm seated. The only things moving are my head, my arms and maybe my feet. My body is in an immovable seat.
Where is First Encounter? I searched my library in the Quest 3 and searched the Quest Store and found no references to it.
Thanks for this nice video. I am interested in the video / film possibilities of the quest 3. I would love to use it to watch Netflix. Is that realistic?
quest 3 have problems on lens the vignette effect, quest 2 doesnt have it
I wish someone would show other games. I’ve seen the difference between this and psvr2 and that is better for games from what I read and this is better for other stuff. But what is other stuff? Is there cool games to play on m3. I get it’s probably cool to mess around in mixed and vr but the games is what I want to know more about and can’t really find much
take a look at assassins creed nexus and asgards wrath 2. Two new Top quality quest exclusives that are fantastic! There is a tonne out there too
My always go back to game was echo vr😭😢
I just ordered a quest 3. I owned a Quest 1 which died mid last year, and I haven't played VR since then. Will I still have my "VR legs" or will I go back to being super sensitive to motion sickness like I was back when the quest 1 came out?
Ill miss echo vr. I heard they got rid of it
Vignette doesn't help me at all and in fact makes me more motion sick.
Yeah. Didn't help me either. But teleport and snap turn help. As does choosing your games carefully. Have to choose the limited motion ones first and level up over time.
When I’m browsing on the explorer, how do I blacken out the light and my room or turn off the transparency?
Thanks for this, I'm totally new to VR ANYTHING (thought it was basically like what 80's movies made it out to be like, lol!) Super helpful/useful information! Really appreciate the video! Can't wait to try out those music apps and the painting app!! Didn't even know some of that stuff was possible, thanks again!
Is it possible to Nieves get motion sickness cuz I’ve never had it
hi sir ,
i love watching movies, 3d sbs movies. can we enjoy 3d movies on quest 3? i have xreal air 2 but i couldnt enjoy full screen movies on it.
Anyone else get a lot of graininess when looking at your room through the headset?
I'm new to VR and purchased a quest 3 but I'm not having a good experience to be fair. I'm finding games sooo unfocused or blurry unless I'm stood right in front of what I'm shooting or looking at. Perhaps I expected better but anything over say 10 feet in front of you is garbage quility.
maybe your IPD is wrong. I never get that as an issue. do you usually wear glasses?
@@ItsSamuelJones I've tried it on all settings but I don't notice a difference at all. I don't normally wear glasses. It was fine for a few days.. But now it's like it's running a really bad resolution everything looks pixelated after a certain distance. It's stopping me from using now. 🙄
Why did you never mention BONELAB?
Played it but not the biggest fan to be honest. was a bit bit overhyped at the time. It's good but I have no real pull to play it.
@@ItsSamuelJones at least try the mods
As for the Vader games, I was seriously, seriously disappointed to discover that THEY ARE RAIL GAMES. I repeat, RAIL GAMES. As in, for a good portion of the game, YOU ARE FORCIBLY BEING MOVED ON A RAIL. IN VR I can’t imagine anything less appropriate for virtual reality than a game that controls your movement.
Does items like Reliefband help with motion sickness caused by VR?
I just purchased a vr headset, partly because of what it is and I was told you can test the games out as many times as you like free of charge. However since I am new to this I cant see more than a few games that are free. Do you have a tutorial for this?
What are the exclusive AAA games on PS5? Is the PS5 pro coming soon?
Hellow I have a quest 1 and am
Getting a quest 3 I am curious what the
Difference will be like
biggg
Yup, very big, resolutions aside, it's a whole different experience.
I don't understand how can you say you don't like Vrchat, but then say you like Horizons, they are the same but Vrchat is infinitely bigger and with infinite possibilities, while Horizons is just a half as vr social app with not much else to do, visit or be
Mkv film files can I play them on quest 3 if I download them to the quest hd
got mine yesterday for christmas, and had major motion sickness after playing gorilla tag a while, and i will for sure use these tips.
My pass through is pants… it’s like a low res web cam. Really disappointed.
get a brighter room little man
@@andrewbroham3811 little man???
@@mrb4408 you’re a little man lmao
@@andrewbroham3811 Yeah, that doesn't really work. Not even the power of the sun will be able to help when it's the camera piece itself that's botched and inconsistent. Good for you if you're lucky to have a good camera on your headset, though!
Where did u buy it from bro i bought on meta website and im still waiting for it to come it takes so long!
They are available in a lot of stores in the UK. Same day 😬
amazon 640$ canadian
Hi there, have you any idea if I could take my Quest 3 to my grandaughers house and use it at her house. They have internet, but wasnt sure if they can be used elsewhere. ??
Yes you can!
being a pround owner of a pre quest 2 OG Oculus Quest owner (yes, the old black face brick) im looking forward to getting the money for this, im in serious need of an upgrade.
I have a Rift S and should be getting my Quest 3 tomorrow! I recently got into sim racing and dug out my VR headset and was going to give it a run - then noticed Arizona Sunshine 2 was being released. Now I'm back on a VR kick with sim racing being just a part of that. But I can't wait for the clarity of new technology. The Rift S is functional, but it is very grainy, washed out and dull.
is there any mmorpg like runescape or wow?
ZenithMMO on steam
Where do I register for VRChat???
im watching anf commenying this on my meta quest 3🙃😅😆😀
My Meta Quest 3 gives me a headache if I wear it too long. Any advice for that?
Maybe your headstrap is too tight?
How is your passover real clear mine I just got yesterday and the real world and like my phone and everything are soooo grainy and blurry is it defective?
No it definitely looks clearer on recordings. Also lighting plays a big part. The brighter the room the better
