Awesome! My wife and I watched the whole series and were very impressed. The videos were to the point, interesting and short. I’ve had a carry permit for years but learned a lot from the series. Thank you!
Breath of fresh air. Personally, I carry a .458 in a cast iron, modified S&W 500 with suppressor in my tactical red white and blue banana hammock while surfing with nobody the wiser. It helps to have tiny frank-n-beans.
Watched all of your videos - 9 Critical Carry Lessons. Great series. You are to the point, funny and give good arguments for any and all sides of any debate. Thanks for your time on this series. You have a new subscriber.
The best caliber, and the best firearm. All come down to a few simple things, and nothing else matters. 1. Is it comfortable enough for you to always carry without fail? 2. Is the firearm comfortable for you to just handle? 3.Are you accurate with that particular firearm, in THAT caliber? 4. Can you repeat the accuracy? Put your follow up shots in a good group, repeatedly. -everything else is for the most part fodder. By the way great videos, instructions, and advice. Keep it up.
I’m glad I came across this series, although episode 7 seems to be eluding me at the present time. I also EDC an XDS-.45 but I was considering the pros and cons of going to a .40 since that is my preferred pistol cartridge. I found myself leaning towards staying with my .45 strictly based off of stopping power but it was reassuring to find my rationale wasn’t unfounded.
Just found this, good info. Thanks. I have always been of the philosophy for a defense pistol is carry the biggest caliber you can comfortably and be consistently accurate with on a fast draw.
Back in the old days we were told that .45 ACP didn't perform nearly as well from a 3" barrel as 9mm would, and that it performed best with a 4" barrel or longer. It was up in the air whether 40 S&W was any better in a 3" barrel than .45. So I've always stuck with 9mm in my compact carry pistols with 3" barrels.
I think you you need to think about where your going for ammo choice. I carry either a 9 or 40 both with extreme defender rounds... I'm more needing barrier penetration. The 45's I tested didn't do as well as the other.. but I have no issue if 45 is all I have... Great video!
Good stuff brother. Finally someone showing some legitimate instruction. I'd like to know your thoughts on the Beretta APX. It's sexy but what is your opinion on function and application?
I think, if you want the most power from a cartridge look up the joule numbers of it (E0, E10, E20,...). There are a lot of powerful cartridges even in the 9mm family (p+). For example you get .357 Magnum rounds from E0= 399 Joule up to over E= 1100 Joule. The 9mm Luger you get from arround E0= 335 Joule up to arround E0= 660 Joule or even more. And that is what counts, in conjunction with the type of bullet, the transfered energy from the bullet on (in) the target.
Really enjoy watching your videos but can you explain some techniques training while moving? In a ideal conceal carry contact we may not always be standing steady like we are on the range
Thanks for this series. Could you make a 10th episode explaining how to handle altercations when CCWing? I'm curious how soon or late should you pull your gun for safety. Is it better to intimidate when you feel the situation escalating, or is it better to wait for physical altercation first, as shown in the knife episode?
380 is a fair round it's still 9mm and with today's advancements in ammo technology plenty of 380 HP will travel 13 inches and expand the pretty much what 9mm para does. And those composite rounds have made a difference in how SD ammo works
Clay, where did they find you!? Very well rounded, articulate and informed. Thanks for the series, you have a new subscriber! Any background on yourself you can share? Thanks again, look forward to seeing more videos.
The lightweight, supersonic, Liberty Civil Defense has less recoil but seems to punch through about anything. RUclips video somewhere shows the 9mm punching through level 3 body armor!?!
Velocity causes hydrostatic shock, right? Not to mention helps better penetrate clothing and other "layers", right? If this is indeed the case, then it should be logical to assume you should focus on velocity over caliber size and bullet weight(this one within normal confines. Getting a 75 grain 9mm that goes 1600FPS probably isn't optimal.) With that said, the theological "best" caliber would be .357 sig, followed by +p and/or +p+ 9mm. Both of which have extra powder/more powerful charges in the cartridge propelling a lighter bullet to faster speeds = all of the above beneficial effects. Plus, lower bullet weight and cross-section helps reduce recoil.
Hydrostatic shock only applies to rifle rounds. No hand gun round of any caliber travels fast enough to cause hydrostatic shock. The FBI interviewed several trauma surgeons in their testing and none said they could tell the difference in the wound channel of a 9mm / .40 cal/.45 cal. Shoot whatever you shoot quickly and accurately.
Great advice. People talk about penetration like it is the most important factor. Ask someone who hunts and kills large animals, penetration or expansion?
.44 mag has an AMAZING range of loads available with bullet weights & powder speeds for any application . 10mm has almost zero flexibility in it's loads
Aaron Frechette sorry I meant a 357 Sig I was thinking about getting the 320 Sig Sauer carry in 357 Sig as my carry gun right now I carry a Springfield XDM compact 9mm
+Anthony Aumiller plenty of power, but the problem I see with the 357 Sig is #1. the ammo is outrageously priced and #2. it's harder to find. Not the best round if you want to be proficient with it as an EDC gun. To be proficient u need to shoot regularly without breaking the bank.
It was expensive and hard to find when it first came out but recently the price has been coming down and the availability has been going up, at least in my area it has. It is pretty comparable in price to 45ACP these days.
You'd feel pretty good with heavy 180 gr .40 rounds in your handgun right? Then I don't get why people look down at 185 and 200 gr .45, especially +P when we already established its a plenty heavy round.
I put the first four rounds as ball jacket ammo, and then the rest as hollow points. For a few reasons. First being if I need to really shoot though something I have a better chance, and second Incase (god forbid) someone ever disarms me and shoots me with my own gun. I’d rather have it be a FMJ thru and thru than a colostomy maker.
The 357s fireball for self sense does have a mental impact on some one charging you plus it's gonna be louder and from what I've researched you want to stop the threat not kill it or so they say but to each his own 4 or 5 rounds center mass should stop the threat of not put 2 more down range to the alpha zone in the head they will go down
I get a lot of flak for carrying a revolver because "low ammo capacity" but most people carry small auto loaders that carry 7 while my wheel gun carries 6. 😒
Just watched all 9 episodes of the series. You got a new subscriber. Good job.
It took all 9 episodes so you could subscribe..? Damn

Such a good series! Classic line ... "... like asking a nun which position out of the kama sutra she likes best" Brilliant!!!
Love when someone gets right to the point. You the man
This was good series. Thanks for making these videos!

I saw the "Freedom Munition" ammo boxes you had on the bench. That's good stuff, for the range at least. Good price and always goes BANG.

The old school .38 saved me more than once during my career (ret. in ‘97 w/30 yrs service) so that’s what I carry in retirement.
Thanks for another great video Clay. I'm looking forward to the day when Glock brings the Glock 39 and Glock 30S into Gen 5 models.

So much common sense most won't be able to handle it. Lol
"or have a gun that you're constantly scared to shoot, like a desert eagle 50 cal"
Hey! i heard that!!!
Oooh forgot the safety!
I'd say it's more about the weight of the bullet, than the diameter. Whatever caliber you choose, carry with heavy bullets.

So caliber doesn’t matter much if your over 6ft tall, and not a twig?
.380 IS 9mm... Also with new ammo .380 is an option. Also Ruger Alaskan .44 is concealable with a 2.5 or 3 inch barrel
Exactly!!

I think that because it's "9" critical lessons, and episode "9", that you are really trying to give subliminal messages lol.
That's right !! Pick up a .45 and practice your handgun skills,.38 times a day for .357 days a year !!!!....................lol..
@@rockytopwrangler2069 illuminati confirmed
You should already know that the Glock 19 has a 15 round capacity plus a spare mag gives you 30 rounds.

9mm might expand but 45 don't shrink
Nothing wrong with .380. just as good as 9mm
That's right...
Mortar systems were you a charlie ? or operators train on a lot of systems to be proficient
.45 ACP, .40 S&W and 9mm in that order
