Do you think Antarctica will become more relevant in the near future?
as soon as it's free of ice, definitely.
Definitely, Global warming is becoming a huge issue, and Antarctica is of course rich in materials, likely because the magnetic poles attract the most meteorites. it has been gathering meteors since before the pre-Cambrian!
Yes like like north sea
Yes. Also can you react to their video about the mystery of the squarest country
nah
AHHH YES MAPMEN!!

That's how I react to this video
A reaction to one of Jays “unfinished London” episodes could be fun. The one about London Bridge is interesting
Their ads are like the only ones I watch because they're hilarious ads, I love it.
Thank you for uploading your reactions for us Mr. Terry. Here in mid - southern England we've had a storm going on... My roof is being destroyed, and family's car has been smashed in by falling roof tiles / debris 😳 I hope insurance covers these things lol.
(If you live in southern england, stay indoors people, and enjoy some reactions instead, much safer!)
I looked outside earlier and my garden fence was horizontal. Luckily my fridge broke earlier this year so I have something to prop it up with
Other norwegians commented about this on the original video, but it's inaccurate to show Queen Maud Land not reaching the south pole since 12th of June, 2015 when Queen Maud Land annexed the remaining stretch to the pole.
Wait but that would put Norway in Violation of the Antarctic treaty, Article 4, Segment 2, which clearly states "No new claim, or enlargement of an existing claim, to territorial sovereignty in Antarctica shall be asserted while the present Treaty is in force."
@@MrLorem64 The only answer I can give you that makes sense is that I used the wrong word. It wasn't so "annex" as it was " define" the boundaries. For you see, Queen Maud Land's boundaries were never defined when the Antarctic Treaty went into effect, but it was always assumed it's boundaries be defined as reaching the South Pole and extending all the way to the 60th Parallel South (60° S) which the other claims have.
So the only explanation that doesn't violate the treaty is that Queen Maud Land's assumed boundaries were officially defined to reach the 60° S and the South Pole for the first time on 12th June 2015.
Map men is just brilliant! Would love to see more reactions to their works!
Waiting for Unifinished London soon. That would be awesome. So happy to see Mr. Terry watching Jay Foreman
Map men also have a good video about the different projections of flat maps
To clarify the norwegian claim. If im right the norwegians didnt want to recognize the sector-principle of the claims, and thus they didnt specify were the edges of the claim were. Although they «fixed» it in 2015, and now it stretches all the way in, just like the others.
I like the way you have the full vid in a pop-up in front of you, unlike other RUclipsrs who block out 1/3 of the video with their self cam.
I like the ode to the moon treaty there... that's fucking amazing!
love that your doing map men!
Love the jersey. SKOL VIKES!
I love how mr terry is casually like "we should wash our chairs more..."
"[Antacrtica] is a pace where . . . we haven't killed each other over yet..."
Keyword being "yet"
Bruh I was just watching Jay and Mark last night. I didn't get around to this video, but I was doing a whole bunch of Map Men, Unfinished London, and Politics Unboringed. Fantastic.
-60 degrees Celsius witch is the same as -60 degree centigrade. Lmao! That part got me good. Now I'll pause and good what that means in freedom units.
"We should wash our chairs more huh?" lmao
You should react to Lemmino, has some good historical mystery videos such as the Lost Colony of Roanoke.
rip i got excited and thought this was the CGP grey video
The penguin noise is NOOK NOOK! The penguin's mom also doesn't take any lip. She will spank that ass if the baby penguin is bad. That's stuff I learned from Pingu.
This is amazing
Your "stop naming everything after monarchs" rant was spot-on. I really hated when Transport for London renamed Crossrail to the Elizabeth Line. What did she have to do with the line?
7:54 Hoth in-universe was named after Jedi Lord Hoth
I love that jersey =D
My favourite story about Antarctica is the story about the HMS Endurance on elephant island I just find the story fascinating
I thought for sure that the USA would have a stake in Antarctica, since there’s actually a place called Little America.
Hey Mr Terry... DeShaun wants to come to our vikings..lol
Yeah, it being colder on clear days in the winter is why we have the notion of it being "too cold to snow" on certain days in the winter. Obviously that is putting the cart before the horse, as it is the lack of clouds (and thus snow) that makes it cold and not the other way around. But it's still useful, as you can tell by temperature forecast alone that, for example, it will be clear skies and no snow tomorrow (or other way around). For example, today was something like minus four degrees celsius here, and tomorrow the weather app says it will be 8 above. So obviously it's going to rain.
Bringing up magnetic north, the difference between magnetic north and true north was different enough for a Korean Airlines Jet to fly over Soviet territory. The end result wasn't good.
Hey Mr. Terry, do you have any other subjects which you teach in additon to History? or are you purely a history teacher?

Someone not mentioned in the video - on November 2, 2001, Travis McHenry, a micro-nationalist (those people who basically turn their homes into new and unrecognized countries), claimed Marie Byrd Land and proclaimed it the Grand Duchy of Westarctica, with himself as the Grand Duke of Westarctica. Micro-nationalists love those unclaimed or disputes areas of the world. For example, in 2014, a man named Jeremiah Heaton claimed Bir Tawil as the Kingdom of North Sudan so that he could make his daughter a real princess for her 7th birthday, and the Croatian police will arrest anyone who attempts to enter a disputed area on the Danube that a Czech libertarian proclaimed the Free Republic of Liberland.
Do more on Spain's rule on Philippines pls ❤️

The reason Argentina declared war on Nazi Germany right at the end of the war was actually to facilitate the flight of Nazis TO Argentina, including some of their top aeronautical engineers (Kurt Tank, Reimar Horten). As one of the "Allies", Argentina could get away with much more than it could have if it had remained officially "neutral" towards the Nazis.
Wow. I will have to read up on that.
Really need to.
Please watch more map men
Yay I love Jay
Which country was ruled by Graham?
I love how much vpns still scam people into thinking they work on netflix.
Are you from Minnesota?
So Notable leaders shouldn´t get things named after them but it only applies if they are monarchs? Coming from an American, that´s a bit rich. Isn´t Pretty much every single president represented in State/City/Town/Park/building names? Also, Portugal and Spain were/are Catholic, not just Christians.
Are you sure you want to name an Antarctic colony Hoth? I know it's a Star Wars reference, but Hoth is also the name of a German WW2 general.
One is most memorable than the other, but maybe Disney would sue you if you name it like that.

At one point in Earth's history weren't there dinosaurs who lived on the land that eventually became Antarctica?
Yes, that's true. Antarctica was not the south polar landmass back then - that was Australia. But the temperature was so much more then that we had no ice caps, and dinosaurs also lived there.

And if memory serves, the poles switch every few odd hundred years.

Please watch the episode about english counties. It has to be one of the most unnecessarily complicated and confusing things ever.
some would say norwegians discovered america aswell
Kind of. Leif Ericson was certainly of Norwegian descent, but his immediate family was from Iceland, and he lived in Greenland

God it is just so sad that we’ve all collectively accepted that moment of “yeah we know that climate change and pollution is destroying the planet, you can skip telling us for the millionth time.”
Because well… we *have* reached that point where most of us *know* and just accept there isn’t much that is going to change about it.

It would be cool to see you react to some video games like assassins creed to see how historically accurate they are
On the topic of dumb place names: Just found a town close to Philadelphia that is literally called King of Prussia. What the frick?
With the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station and with McMurdo, the largest in Antarctica: USA !!!
I know that this is a lame thing to complain about, but it makes me sad that this really entertaining and well-researched video gets 17K views on this channel, and next to it "FAMILY GUY HISTORY JOKES" gets 1075K views...
Pewdiepie does
Antartica is bigger than Europe i am pretty sure. significantly larger than Australia
Edit I scarily misclicked the letter beside B for the word bigger
Yeah Russia is the biggest benefactor to global warming. Because of the way the currents float in the Arctic Ocean all of the ice is now pushed up against the Canadian coastline while the waters around Russia have become increasingly free of ice. This means Russia can now charge ships taking cargo from East Asia to Europe. They have more access to minerals and raw resources in Siberia and the Arctic region as well.
We all know that technoblade is the owner of antartica and the antarctic empire
Saying you own Antarctica because a dude once visited there is like saying the US owns the moon.
We do. 🙂
Well you can can buy Lunar Land according to the Lunar Land web site at least... It's nonsense but people can be scammed and pretend. 😂
Antártica its Chile 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
Antartica its for Argentina
I think Marie Byrd Land should just be given independence as a sovereign nation, no other government wants it so make it its own thing
who would govern it
Was it just me or was this video usually quite
We should definitely claim the remaining portion of Antarctica right now while Putin is distracted with Ukraine.
"I let you know, what i know about antartica as well." - This is gonna be short since it's "antarCtica" and you already made this mistake twice. ;-)
Mining is about all you'll ever have there. You don't grow food crops in a land with daylight/darkness for months like this.
Norwegians and everyone else down there to hunt whales

Who owns Antarctica? NOBODY. There, I just saved you from wasting 22 minutes of your life
but why does nobody own it?
Are all the countries still fighting there.
