I'd caution against deforesting within a forestry area as it removes the resource and drops the outputs. If you're going to remove trees for aesthetics then I'd recommend that they get replaced in accordance with the aesthetic rather than just removed, which you did at the end, but I've seen other folks just clear away for the zoned industry... worth bearing in mind for those just learning about forestry industry.
Warehouse placement: ideally "upstream" of the processor that requires the material and "downstream" of the processor that's producing the material, if you're using a lot of one-way roads. (Of course, the "empties" still need to go around but that's the price of a one-way system sometimes.
Non-base resources *must* be made in-house: plastics, petroleum, planed timber, metal, etc. Only raw forestry/ore/oil/farm products will get imported. So if you _do_ want to have a unique factory producing goods and it requires a specialist material, like plastic, then you'll need to set up an appropriate industrial area to produce it. Of course, if you've no ore or oil (or other "raw" resource) then it _will_ get imported (at a cost) to supply the processor in question.
Monorail looks really neat! Will be very useful for getting the workers to work and home again once it's connected up. Definitely agree on the Pulp Mill: very Bladerunner-esque vibe to it.
And for forestry especially: don't forget your fire coverage! Or have fun watching it all *_burn_* ... 8D
    Good vid Egg.

Also, be mindful that any warehouse with the appropriate resource can be called, not necessarily the nearest, so centralising them with good routes to every factory that needs them is preferable.

When you prefaced with the ‘I’m not sure’ I knew you’d work a monorail into it. Definitely a look not seen often irl, but here, in your city and in the game mechanics it obviously works. Kinda reminds me of the Disney World monorail going through/around it’s Animal Kingdom park. Being an American, the only interactions I’ve ever had with monorails are at airports and Disney.

The monorail into the forestry area looks so cool. Yet another way to mix in different ways of transportation into a city. I swear so far watching this series I've learned more stuff than I knew in the first place. I never would have even thought of most of what I've seen. It just goes to show how brilliant this game is and the freedom they give you to legit make a city however you want

Always love an industry build. The monorail action with the forest area worked surprisingly well and the aesthetic made me think of Noveria's farmland. I think monorail would've worked so well with that one. Great video as always Egg!

Those factories you unlock in the industries do not have to be placed in the industry district to work. Like that pulp mill doesn't have to be placed inside a forestry district. I like to put them back into my original starting industry area to spruce it up by replacing some vanilla blocks there with a fancy factory. Sometimes I even surround it with a vanilla industry district and give it the appropriate specialization so the generic buildings near the factory conform to the same look and function as the factory, just like you did in the forestry industry. By the way, doing that also helps with the city's import/export mechanics when you buy & sell to the outside world. Putting the factories elsewhere also helps keep your industry area from getting too big. Like you emphasized last episode with the parks, the industries don't always have to be huge sprawling level 5 monsters. But if you do have monsters, you can shrink them a little by putting the factories elsewhere, and you still get the benefits the factories provide. Moving them out also redirects some of the traffic normally going through the industry district to somewhere else. At level 5 the traffic can get significant.

The monorail was a nice surprise! Over at the tram stop in the park, I've cheesed mine to collect from the cims as they are entering and exiting the tram station. Between that one and the park cheese from the industrial area, it's bringing in just at 4,000/week.

  • @ArchTeryx00

The weird thing is that while no cities I know of would set up a monorail in a forestry area in the real world (because they tend to move around a lot and monorails are crazy expensive to build) Storm City inhabitants would do it *in a heartbeat.* It is set on a world with no cars, few other vehicles and a LOT of train infrastructure. The monorail taking in the forestry workers would probably be fairly ratty looking, but it'd be a very fast and efficient way to get workers in if the forestry area was "sustainable."
It also works damn well for Skylines forestry, too. Gives it a very unique look!

Nice! Genuinely great build, and that monorail is indeed a bold statement. However, and this is _the_ most important aspect of any CS build…
The colour of the transport line… I’d have done silver-grey, to go full modern monorail

You can’t import processed products the industries dlc produces, only raw resources to make them. If you need plastics and have no processing buildings turning oil into plastic, plastics will not come into the city. You can get the oil imported, but not the finished item. I verified on Google and in my city. Love the forestry build!

So far tried to stay in line, but now, with nearly 24,000 people, traffic is stagnating in some places. I don't have a zoo and timber industry yet and don't want to do this until I have some traffic control.
From the first time I played this game, I found this THE stumbling block to continue playing.
    Any tips perhaps?

One correction: processed goods cannot be imported, so plastics cannot be directly imported. However, oil can be imported and processed in an oil industry zone.

For those trying to copy and build the city do know that traffic around the Industry Area is already backing up and I'm (just like in the video) at 17K people. I started to follow the series and copy the city build to not only make a visual nice city, but also as I assumed I would finally get a city that doesn't had traffic issues early on, but unfortunately the average traffic flow is already hovering at times around 75% 😔

@@brinedpickle The only thing I found out was that somewhere during series he changed some roads in the Industry area without showing it in the video's . F.e. the one-way road in to the area was changed to a 2-way road as I found out while going back to earlier video's (in video #5 it's visible around 48:25).
But I actually gave up after #8. I assumed he just added in a mod to reduce traffic without telling and stopped watching here 🤷‍♂

Loving this series. However, this was my first disappointment. Firstly, I was hoping to see you remove the original industry zones or something. Secondly, forestry seems like the worst industry to be so semetrical in.
I hope this hasn't come off wrong. I have been following this series on a different map, trying to implement your fantastic guidelines (though my City still looks awful in comparison), but was really waiting for your "industries" introduction to fix the ugly staying in my City haha.
Also, by this stage are you still just on coal for power, or did I some how miss a swap?

"don't be afraid to go back and delete infrastructure" is definitely my main take away from this vid. Far too often I ram in industry buildings wherever they fit in my "I'll never ever delete my roads!" layouts and it looks ugly as hell.

Maybe it's the conservative in me.... If the city OWNS the specialized industry, doesn't that make us, quite literally, a communist city? From Britannica: "In a Communist system, individual people do not own *land, factories, or machinery.* Instead, _the government or the whole community owns these things."_ Maybe it's sad that I have refused to create these specialized industries because of that. No one sees my protest but me....
