- This is a story about a 7.7 oz black opal chunk from Coober Pedy, South Australia. I cut and polish this stone and make cabochons and an arrowhead. Also, o 68 carat brilliantly colored piece of Ethiopian rough opal is examined, cut, drilled and made into a beautiful gem -- for GIVEAWAY, along with 3 polished pieces of black opal.

You completely stabbed my heart when you turned that cab into an arrowhead. Turned out stellar though! Always love watching what you make. All this eye candy is great inspiration for wire wrapping.
I have never seen anything. like thèse 2 fabulous Opel. Dont know what else i can say, words fail.
I gotta say, before i started watching your channel i knew nothing about opal. Soon after starting buying little roughs here and there trying to sand out my own. In the process my 13 year old daughter took on this passion too and now has opal, gems, crystals, you name it and she probably has it or knows of it. The only thing she doesn’t have is a nice black opal due to price but she would just go crazy if she won one. Love your channel and my cats cuter! Lmao
That's awesome Bob (great name btw). I got my youngest daughter hooked on agate hunting and she's already found a few at the beach which is pretty good for a 4 yo I'd say. Hopefully she'll take to collecting like yours did :)
Awesome! I love when kids get interested in the beauty of their world.
This should have been the most interesting comment to win a Black for the young lady. If not, I hope she gets a beauty real soon.
@@Patrick_B687-3 Thanks, were saving for a nice one lol
Oh yes! Turn the kids into rockhounds!!! Get them outside come, get some exercise, and then they get to feel the beauty and energy that radiates from Crystals. Love love love it give it to this little girl! Lol and sorry raspy Bob but my cats cuter!
That welo opal is a dream. The way the colors roll over each other is amazing. It's what I picture a dragon or phoenix egg would look like.
Beautiful work, you have some amazingly unique opal go through your hands. And the arrowheads show you can still be stylish and hunt when civilization collapses.
Watch your shows all the time. You are so funny, and informative. Love your show. Thanks for the entertainment 🤠
When I was a kid, and dinosaurs roamed the earth, my family and I used to do a lot of rockhounding in eastern Montana. Once, we came upon an area of teepee rings near the Yellowstone River. There were lots of chips from flintknapping, and I still have a lot of those chips today. There was even one arrowhead that was started and unfinished, and I have that too. I love watching you do the same process those native people did so long ago. Thanks for the great video.
I just love the personality that you bring to these equally informative and entertaining videos. I dont know how interesting I can make a comment, but I can tell you that were I to be chosen to receive any one of those beautiful stones, it would be wrapped in copper wire with only the greatest of care, and worn or otherwise displayed proudly, always. You keep doing what you do. I love watching you work these stones.

Top 10 Reasons I watch Pulitzer Opal!
1. Comedic stylings.
2. Keeps female mannequin head like my dad used too.
3. Video editing is borderline impressive.
4. Quality content every video
5.I think my dad's plastic shop girlfriend head thing was also named Sheila...strange coincidence.
6. Unique and hilarious sense of humor.
7. Who knows you might turn something into an arrowhead.
8. Beautiful craftsmanship and even finds lessons or humor in mistakes. 9. We were afraid to move Sheila after he died. So she belongs to whoever bought his house.
10. Did I mention the expert craftsmanship?
Cheers from Michigan!
I love the fact that you name the stone as you create and allow the stone to become its name. The Opal is my birthstone and i am hoping to go rockhounding in April for Opals for the first time, do you ever rockhound for any of the stones you work on? You are the only subscriber that my notifications are on because I love watching you create them. Thank you I learn something new everytime. This is the 1st time i have left a message but your description of Gina has been my life she is truly gorgeous.
@@PulitzerOpal I have heard that Oregon and some areas of Idaho have some, I'm going to attempt to find some this summer! But I'm unsure of what to be looking for but that makes it even more fun. I usually come home with everything but the right rocks lol. Its my 2nd year rockhounding and because of all the restrictions I have not been able to meet any other Rockhounders maybe this year I can join a group and we will be allowed to meet up.?? Thank you for your response I was not expecting one since you have so many hundreds to go thru but I truly truly appreciate you answering me . God Bless Mr.Opal. May your dream to get to Australia come true,I believe we all deserve our dreams to become reality!!
@@PulitzerOpal good day Colonel Opa! l finally was able to watch the video you suggested now I want to go to Peacock Mine this summer ! Wow your videos are awesome I know you probably hear that all the time but I am learning a lot and opal is my birthstone so I have been fascinated with opal since I was a child now I have the opportunity to learn about them thru your channel ! Thank you so much this new hobby is helping me heal from the loss of my son (who loved rockhounding) in 2019 and it feels good to have new adventures. God bless Colonel Opal and thank you
Almost 50k subscribers great to see! Always love the videos and as for an interesting comment. 4 years ago I was cycling home late in the evening and was hit by a drunk driver, in a state of shock I must have walked home cause I came too in my apartment wet, face damaged and confused and started to feel pain. My right shoulder was broken, right ribs all cracked and no idea how I got there. I called my friend and got him to take me to the hospital. A few days later I had someone drive me the route I would normally bike home as I was trying to see if there was cameras for info on the accident, in this back road intersection was my jacket, obvious signs on the accident and my opal ring that was missing, it had flown off my hand and cracked the opal. Miraculously it was in the road and never run over or stolen. If I could post picture here I would but could send you one. The ring was bent back into shape and it’s a reminder I’m alive and I’m grateful. Still beautiful even with a chunk missing
Thank you for the endlessly enjoyable content ❤! Besides getting out to travel around the U.S. to dig crystals and gems with my wife and children, I also take them mushroom hunting, fishing, and teach them survival skills. Our favorite thing to do is find our own treasures right from the ground though 🥰 If I get the chance to take them to an area with opal we can dig, I'll value your videos even more as I try to polish our own opals!
@@PulitzerOpal I did as well and I treasure all those experiences and skills that I've continued to nurture. Now, I'm hoping it creates the spark in my kids that will carry the torch into their future generations 🤞❤
Wow that blue opal was a beautiful mother that made many lovely babies!
I could give Blinky a nice home right over my heart. Sheila and Zuck are out of luck! Great Video Pulitzer Opal, Thank you.
I had a dream that I was inside an opal, surrounded by flashing lights and incredible colors; then I awoke and realized it was just a cluster migraine. darnit.
I once had a dream, where people's name were expressed with opals. So if you want to introduce yourself to someone, you just give them "your" opal. It totally made sense to me, since opals are more unique, like our personalities and there are no two same opal patterns. Better then regular names, like John or Sheela
@@PulitzerOpal 🤣
I don't know why I'm not getting your videos on my subscription list. I love watching your videos, love seeing the kitties. Can't forget Shella. I fell in love with opals when I started watching your channel and Justin's. I love yalls humor. It makes my day so much better. Even got my mother interested in watching y'all cut these beautiful stones. She loves the bluebird, only because it is blue. 😂. I love them all. Something about how the light reflexes and refracts the colors and patterns. How each and everyone is unique. Thank you for making the videos.
I love ❤ the little clips of your cats. Touchy is a good jumper! Awesome robot. I liked his dance 🕺🤖
“In precious opals there might be a dash of red here, a seductive swirl of blue there, and in the center, perhaps, a flirtatious glance of green. But each stone flickers with a unique fire and a good opal is one with an opinion of its own.” A description of opal is hard to explain. A sunset, a flickering candle, an ocean wave sparkling in the late evening sun, that moment your eyes meet your soul mates glance, a beautiful stone shrouded in mystery until it’s beauty is carefully uncovered. Thanks for the videos. Keep it up. Congrats on the upcoming 50k subscribers!!
You sound like a romantic person the way you describe opals, I really loved your poetic description.
That was a great way to describe. And I hope you also have a great day, or week, or month, or year, or decade. And all of the above.
Going to see some opals in Tuscon this weekend. Maybe I'll even see one of yours at the show!
Opal is definitely my favorite stone. I never knew there were so many varieties until I stumbled upon this channel
Love the video always looking forward to the next one. Lighting ridge got its name in the 1870s when people found a farmer, his dog, and 200 sheep dead by lighting.
I love the stones this episode.Of course the arrowhead was my favorite, being native i enjoy your knapping skills. I have made tons of arrowheads for primitive arrows, just never from a gemstone. Great work!
Where did y'all learn to make arrowheads? Or probably better said where did y'all learn to make arrowheads?
@@PulitzerOpal Don I seen all the frames of arrow heads in your video. Are those Opal arrowheads you made?
Can you give us a tour of your collection, is that when you were going to corner the market on Opal arrowheads like The Hunt Brothers tried to? 😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have done some spear points but mainly make arrowhead points. I have fallen in love with opal, for many years I only worked natural hard to find turquoise.Just about all of it today is stabilized and or dyed also. I also make hoop drums and several prayer pipes from the native pipestone. Pilamaya , Chris
I have never seen a clearwing moth before, so thank you for that! Didn't even know of it's existence. Loved the kitty's and of course the opals too, so many colors in just 1 stone. I'm already looking forward to the next video, the extras make them so much fun to watch 😁👍🏻
It's called a humming bird moth
Pop's I wish you the very best at life. You are tuffer than horse poop. Have a great weekend and hopefully you smiled. Sharing happiness is amazing and gives hope to others.
I love seeing how your channel has grown. Especially with the side stories and animation. Thank you!
The arrowhead(ex-cabochon) went from smooth night sky to heart piercer in no time:) I'd be afraid of what it makes of one... Shamanic powers?
I thank Riley first, and then dig out my pixie and fancy Dremel press with all those attachments and spend countless hours texting a buddy name Don that’s a world famous Opal cutter for his advice. Wait on back ordered Delivers of those special tools (dop sticks, wax) and that serum dioxide compound stuff, they did not mention in books back in 2005, or at least the books I read. Opal cutting for Dummies.
The stone I ended up with I call it “Blinky”.
Then I get advise from the Guy that made the Famous Rainbow shield and a second rainbow shield on how to design it with diamonds for a beautiful Pendant I could wear to the Pot luck dinner.
Where to begin? Drench you in complements for your creativity, your skill, for the time you spend to make us the unbelievable (fantastic, even more complements) videos? Instead, I think I’ll just be grateful. Thank you for the bright spot in my day. Thank you for your generosity. Much appreciated (even if I don’t win!). Sincerely, Me
Thank you for sharing such beauty in the opal world. I love your sense of humor.
They all came out beautifully. Love your videos and how easy it is to laugh and enjoy the change from stone to gem
I been watching your videos for a long time but finally purchased my first couple pieces of Opal on Etsy. I cleaned them off with water when I got them because there was some dirt on them and they became clear.
Did I damage or ruin my Opal and if this is a normal thing why can some opals get wet and others turn clear if you get them wet!?!
I blew the Opal with a hair dryer and it seemed to get some color back but not a whole lot changed
Yeah same thing happened to mine :(
@@castlesteinway7741 did yours ever get its full color back?
Maybe if Pulitzer Opal sees your comment he could talk a little bit about why that happens and maybe gift you some nicer opal :)
@@PulitzerOpal you calling me a dummy !?! -_- haha only joking
I’ll definitely check it out.
I been in love with Opal for a long time but I am just now starting my collection so i didn’t have a lot of money to spend on some decent pieces.
I just attended the Tucson gem show and discovered opal. I'm so glad to have found this channel after a few opal searches. I've got a feeling that I'm about to become addicted to a new opal hobby. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Very nice work with open event all design thank you 4 u been u.

I will name my future grandchildren Opal...what BEAUTIFUL stones...never watched before...but im hooked..
The most interesting comment.
That moth was awesome! And so were those opals--the purple arrowhead was stunning!
Touchy's leap. Paco watching intently while sitting tall. Hopper's stretch. Blinky looking awesome.
I love watching your arrowhead carvings. Beautiful work.
I love the cats you bring into your videos.
I also have to say I have a ton of fun watching and listening to what you do here. Simply brilliant and funny all at the same time.
I thank you
Absolutely beautiful. I have loved rocks and beautiful stones and gems since I was a little girl. I’m in my fifties and still love them. Opals are so pretty. 😊
The interesting color combos from that big chunk was amazing. Thanks for the journey!
Thanks for sharing the opals and your kitties. I've been missing my own since I was sent to the sand box. The colors of those stones are fantastic! I can see why Sheila wants them.
Bertha was the name of my first car. 1995 Lincoln Town car (executive edition) drove like a dream! Not as dreamy as that Bertha you've polished up there though good sir. What a beautiful stone! 😍 I truly love watching your videos. I'm mesmerized every time i watch them and look forward to every new episode. You're like an opal wizard or something!
You have some VERY creative and humorous videos. It's great to see people as talented as you who don't take themselves so seriously.
Where to start. Your Opal videos and knowledge alone are amazing. So many cuts so little time to watch them all. Your knowledge and help is priceless and I'm grateful.
Your humor is beyond on point and your cats are a show in themselves. Just got my own one cat entertainment system. She's Belle and 7 months old. She loves destroying paper towels, toilet paper, and napkins. Especially the one you are using right then.
Beautiful work and your Arrowhead making skills make the Cherokee jealous. I've found tons of them on my grandma's land when I was little. I have two cigar boxes full of them for over 50yrs. Your work reminds me of them so much.
Anyway thank you for giving us so much to enjoy and learn from. Sincerely, a wonderful YT channel to watch every time! Thank you Don!
BTW you should have at least 300k subs. Real informative info combined with great entertainment! Thanks!
I love watching you work. You make it look so easy.
I look back at my first time opal rough buys . They were big disasters. A box of crumbs,( when I was done.) . I think , for now, I will just watch you. 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous stones and of course craftsmanship. Mesmerized by watching you work.
Opal is my Birthstone, had a ring and matching necklace once but my Bestest Friend wanted this baby Goffin bird. So I traded my jewls, she just died a week ago but the bird, Sammie Diane went to a bird sanctuary. She had her for 34 yrs. Watching you brought back sweet memories of my Linda and wish I could get a necklace but Opal's are out of my price range anymore. Beautiful, Diane.
Blinky is a BEAUTY! She’s a dream, for sure. Congrats to whoever wins her.👍
❤️✌️
The opal content was stellar as usual, but I spent all my time marveling at how you got your cat to clean up all the litter off the floor. Mine spreads litter equitably throughout the house.
I just recently discovered my love of opal. I remember first learning about opal and how rare and expensive it was long before it was discovered in Ethiopia and so I had always figured it would always be far out of my reach. Just weeks ago I was online and saw a sale on some opals and kind of impulsively bought a couple, a beautiful little 5 carat cross cut Ethiopan cab that I plan on making into a ring someday and a little 2.6 carat honeycomb, and now I'm hooked! I can't stop watching these videos. I don't know what blows me away more, the amazing stones you cut or your incredible generosity! These videos make me want to dance like Zuck. Thank you.
I really just enjoy watching your vids. You crack me up and the opals are beautiful regardless of cracks, etc.
I love seeing the colors come to the surface and just show off what they got!
Excellent. A great mix of profession, life, humor, visuals and innuendo. 😂😂 I'm glad I found your channel.
You do such lovely and fascinating work. I am mesmerized watching the rough stones stripping down to their glorious hearts,
Cut and polished a few opals myself ... love watching and learning from your skills ....
Love your content. I'm addicted to the opal now. My wagon wheel blinked when I saw blinky. Lol stunning
I've never seen a black opal arrowhead and I must say I love it! It I amazing what you can do with those precious stones.
The sound of knapping the arrow head is strangely soothing. I consider you a gangster knapper. Keep up the good work.
Wow how you got that whole family out of this massive chunk. Bertha won my heart but they are all stunning. Dreaming of a workshop linke this, totally sharing the passion for all the dancing colours and cats!
My first thought when I saw that big one was "that would make one helluva cufflink" and as I continued watching, it occurred to me that you are the most entertaining channel on RUclips. And when you started making that arrow head my heart was lifted high. You are my RUclips hero.
Woke up a grumpy man and seen you uploaded a video and instantly got happy 😁...God speed world, and greetings from Yuma Arizona.
I spent 14 months in Woomera South Australia close to Andamooka and south of Coobejrpeedy. Fell in love with opals there. There are Opal veins very close to Woomera but the government refused to let us explore for them. I bought some from local miners and brought them home. I regret not buying many more!
Zuck has some nerve flailing around like that after last time! Gorgeous stones throughout, the arrowhead turned out extraordinary
I love your down to earth style and sense of humor.
😯 you are definitely the Pro from Dover!! Those were beautiful. Thanks again for another one. 👍
I'm loving how educational these videos are, me and my lady are starting to cut and we love your videos
Ηι there...opal just dazzles me..and even more if it is set with a diamond or two....your videos are very humorous and not at all boring....Thankyou for up loading....and from a GREEK AUSTRALIAN,,,,have a good one ..mate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such amazing pieces. Your talents are breathtaking. Thank you for explaining as you go.
That’s right! DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS!!! Finding one of those opals in Texas would be astounding!! I love your quirkiness!! It takes your videos to a whole other level! Keep up the great work!!!
Blinky and Bertha are my favorites, but they are all very beautiful!
I think it’s funny you were playing with your thick opal and flex hose!!!
Love your innuendos!
You never make mistakes.
You create extra opportunities and future knowledge!
I stumbled on your channel this morning ad I relentlessly drug myself out of bed. Amazing beautiful work sir! I'm an October baby so Opal is my stone. As a child I watched my mother and Grandfather look for Arrowheads and minerals and sorts, always wondered why my mom would "lick" her rocks. Well I now know why because I turned into a rock licker! Love it! I have so many and am slowly building up my station to do work. I'm an amateur but I figure that's the only way to learn. I thank you for your sharing of your craft ! I'll be watching as long as you keep sharing!
I just found your videos. I absolutely love them. My husband and I love your humor.
@Pulitzer Opal haha! Birds of a feather!
Those are some beautiful stones but you transformed them into some stunning gems. This is my first time watching and really enjoyed it.
Just saw this one Don, awesome as usual! Watching you cut "pop" reminded me of an Ethiopian I was cutting, it "popped" and I "pooped" because I thought I ruined it, but it worked out ok. After retiring from 20yrs of police work in 2016, I started working for the other side as a criminal defense investigator. As I sit and investigate capital murder cases I play your videos in the background, they make me giggle and keep me grounded....thanks for that pal!
Love you, my man, may God bless you and your family! You are really kind with those generous giveaways!
I love what you do with those opals. My wife and I don't like shiny expensive things cause it doesn't fit with our life style. Althougt, opals don't enter the category like gold or diamonds. Its unique texture makes it less flashy and more like my wife, a beautiful gem in a natural look body. It doesn't need to be encased in some extravagent set to reveal its value. It's simple, colorful, always unique and have a raw strength. I laught every video with your exquisite cats and your funny Sheila. Continue to bring joy with your opals and videos! Thanks a lot.
You're very handy with your flex shaft. I always love seeing what opal you'll pull out next. Always beautiful
Some gorgeous opals. I love the blue bird arrow head. Very interesting to see how it was made ❣️ great video
I've been watching opal mining videos for ages it seems, I was curious about the cutting process and glad to have found your channel. Keep up the great content.
Truly a very talented individual. Love your humour
Besides a great jewelry maker you're arrowheads are just amazing
So happy I found this channel! I could listen to you all day! The work you do is phenomenal and you, my sir are very entertaining! You are exactly what I see in my dream mentor, if I could have a mentor. I am teaching myself lapidary with basic tools and my own gumption.
I loved watching u make the arrow head and watching how u polished the stone I have found some lovely stones and always wanted to get machine of my own to polish my own stuff but being a single mom it's hard to put out that kind of money but one day maybe. I would love to see more I can't wait to see how mine turn out I love to collect rocks I love the adventure and it's doesn't matter if I find something or nothing it's just peaceful and quiet. So I can't wait to see more of what u find
Your cats are very delightful and beautiful as your opals!
I used to be addicted to the Hokey Pokey but I turned myself around!
Opals! Because nothing is more interesting than this gorgeous gemstone.
Wow, Colonel, touchy and Harper have beautiful marking themselves.
Oh, my. Stunner strutting opal in the house
Your skill, knowledge and expertise never cease to amaze me. Oh and Humor cant forget that. What up Sheila 😉
Ooh.., that's an interesting comment.
The man deserves 1M subs in no time!
He's the reason I had somebody make me a Ring with some nice black opal from lightning ridge.
Much love from Germany
Amazing work on that welo and arrowhead. Everyone needs at least 1 of each in their collection
I love watching your videos! They always remind me to give myself a manicure 💅! But, seriously those are beautiful stones❤️🇨🇦
A stunning stone and such exquisite workmanship. If I was in your line of work I'd be a nervous wreck every day!
Some people say that we were created by the universe, are the universe, and are here to observe, experience the universe/our self/selves. And opals are one of the best forms, amongst many, that it/we/I have to entertain ourselves/itself.
It's amazing what comes out of the earth. An extraordinary rock that came out of the third rock from the sun.
Very humbling.
Thank you.
I live in Colorado and if I had known some of the things I have been seeing on youtube, man I would not be sitting here right now. When I first came across opal on youtube I want to goodle, research, call who ever I had to so cut and polish some. I looked on the internet to see if there was any place here in colorado that i could go mine for opal, No then I look thinking in New Mexico I foun a few places and some in Nevada. So it turn out that my husband does not like things that I like to do so one of these days maybe I will be able to find or mine for an opal. In until then I am able to watch what ever I want about opal on youtube. Thank you Pulitzer Opal for everything you do for us viewers. Great job!!!!!
That is my favorite arrowhead of all the ones you have done. Beautiful color!

These are absolutely amazing stones!!
Really stunning colours the opals and love the cats contributions too. Love to have one of your pieces. much Love
I'm from Geraldton, in the Australian outback and I have travelled the country. I love opal but I have never visited any of the opal fields here, which are the finest in the world, but now that I have watched your show, I'm heading to Lightning Ridge then Coober Pedy to try my luck. If I find anything worthwhile I'll be in touch. Keep up the good work, it's most entertaining.
In this day and age, it’s rare to see someone with your Knapping skills. I thought I was pretty good, but you actually rival my uncle’s level of mastery. And that’s the highest level of praise I can give, from my own experience. He taught me and my siblings and my cousins how to hunt, fish, gather herbs and edible plants, and a half dozen ways to make fire and preserve food. He was, in short, the most knowledgeable survivalist I’ve ever known. Not even my jungle expert, and wilderness survival instructors, during my Army career, could give me a better understanding of survival (and they were amazingly smart and pragmatic).
I love your videos because I love opal, and you’re a talented stone smith.
You have also an extraordinary talent for knapping that stands out.
I am so glad you posted today. Our Beauty gave us 7 pups 2 days ago. She decided my closet was the place to do this. I haven't slept in 2 days now...lol Want a Pyrador? We have 1 white female, 2 black and white females 1 brindle female, and 3 brindle males... So you are the perfect relax and unwind yt producer.
Just getting into opal. This video has great information like the auction. Thanks so much for that. And bluebird was my favorite.
I have to get my hands on some Australian black opal. I am blown away by the look in all the youtube videos and social media pages. I bought some Ethiopian opal since it was cheaper and although it is gorgeous like the one you cut in this video, it is more like an aquarium ful of sparkles. I kind of like the idea that Australian black opal has a color bar with concentrated color, less of an aquarium, and more of a shmear of color. Nice work!
