- This particular Wyoming Nobby from Lightning Ridge is showing a lot of potential.
The color looks vibrant and the color bar seems to be a decent size - but you never know what is lurking below the white cap.

I have a double sided cut and polished green broad-flash Coober Pedy white opal cabochon somewhere in my carpet that I dropped when we moved in a month ago, I keep checking the vacuum to make sure I don't throw it away by accident.😂
Well, that opal sure is worth a lot more now that you found it again! It isn't worth anything when it's lost...
Thank you for sharing this with me so the Opal is small but it's beautiful !
I like you for you. Thanks for sharing the jokes and the gems.
Binge watcher 👀
Positive spin ...OK
I love it ,the blues the red all of it !
Not that small ,I'll call it my starter stone .
Work my way up to the 5 carat ...💃
A very pretty stone!
Is it pinfire with floral? I love watching your stones come to life, beauty.
I say floral flagstaff mixed. Thanks for the entertainment
How do you determine the thickness of gems? Is it just aesthetic preference or are there rules about it? I mean - what stops you from leaving some more potch in the back to make the stone heavier?
Without reading any more comments here, is that pinfire and chaat? Either way it's a little stunner, and glad you are going to realize at least some money of it!
Nope
I suggest not using stereo mic for voice recording, because in headphones it goes left and right, pretty strange to listen to
This opal still turned out beautifully in the end. If I hadn’t seen what it “could’ve been” I would have never know it was supposed to be larger. Kinda a good metaphor for life; you don’t see the struggles, just the finished product.
Lots of love to all who end up reading ❤❤❤
My thoughts exactly
This is what I tell my wife...
I really think this is a nice little gem. The red and orange flowers in it are stunning. It should have a name like Hibiscus Burst.
Hey Justin. I hope you had a wonderful birthday 🎂. Excellent job on the opal in this video. Looks amazing as always. The floral and pinfire design looks spectacular. So much color. Phenomenal stone. You are an artist, better than Picasso. Outstanding!
What a ripper! I see Floral with a small pinfire pattern in this gem. It is just a beautiful gem, show casing the top colours wanted in an opal. Just love it. Thank you Black Opal Direct for a great video, and as always great seeing the Master Justin at work..... until next week
❤️. you got it woot woot
I love watching your show!! I've always had a passion for opals. You are a true master about bringing out the beauty of mother earth!! God bless you and your family!!
When you started, I thought it looked to be pinfire. A bit of that is still there in the finished gem, but more floral now. Absolutely stunning! I'm dreaming ... Great work, Justin!
Live your positive outlook! Not beaten by sand ( just pushed around a little) but what a gem you’re got!🎉
So true!
I'm glad it turned out you were able to have such a wonderful finished stone. The reds are amazing and you made it the best it could be. Beautiful, just beautiful. I think it might be flagstone but just a guess. Keep the goodness coming. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒ from Palm Springs, California.
I think you may have been hacked. See what was sent after this.
At first I thought it would just be incredible pinfire, but the finished piece has so much floral richness under a pinfire veil. Lovely!
❤️
The knobby/nobby looked magical, then you lost 2/3 of it. The stone that you ended with is beautiful.
As you say, you never know how a piece of rough will turn out. 😫
What a beauty! Smaller than anticipated but the spectrum of color in this one is unreal. Purple, reds, orange and yellow really pop.
So, so beautiful. Makes my heart ache with wanting…
Mostly floral but has hints of pinfire. Happy 50th Justin! Hopefully you get to spend it fishing and with family and friends!!
Gorgeous gem Justin. The floral pattern is eye popping! 👍🏻
Glad you like it!
Looking at the positive side, you have 1.72 carats more than you did a couple of days ago when it was lost on the floor. Loved watching you get the best out of this gem.🤔😥😊😊😊🌏
What a super stone! The purples and lavender flashes are so pretty. I'm relatively new to your channel, so still learning, but I think it may be floral with some other patterns mixed in? A good attitude to have though, make the best of everything you can, and you just might be pleasantly surprised. Seeing the stones emerge from sand and potch is just fascinating. Happy birthday!
awesome. glad you're here and learning
Such beautiful colors and I know that you had to remove a lot of material but still you won and did it in the end Justin! Sometimes good things comes in smaller packages📦! Lovely opal never the less, take care and greetings to you all at BOD!
There is this moment when the sand shatters your hopes, but than this beautiful stone emerges from the sand.
Looking at this beautiful stone in the end I guess you can't be sad. Even if it's a lot smaller than what you hoped for and you might even have lost some money on the parcel, seeing the gem that still came out in the end has to be enjoyable.
As someone who has done a rotten miserable jobs over periods, I'm here to note that every one of your winners and lossers are equally precious.
Floral pattern with pinfire accents,I think. An absolute beauty whatever the name of the pattern is. 👍✌🖖
It may not be what you hoped for, but it's still absolutely gorgeous!
The pink, purple, green and red, with flashes of yellow and orange is fairly unique. I am very impressed you got 1.75ct out of that. When I looked at the rough knobby I thought the bar was thin and too close to the top. My hope was 1.5ct and you beat it. Good on you.
As for the pattern, I saw pin fire at the top and center. Then there seemed to be floral around the outside. Nice 3D effect as well.
a very "beautiful" pattern . great videos. I dont know all lot about opal but learn alot from you.
watching the opal reveal itself is like watching the Hubble telescope when it first revealed the wonderful pictures of far distant galaxies, every opal is like its own little galaxy, every one different, everyone, unique and everyone stunning in its own way,in a way you are helping to create a world with every spin of your wheel!
True
Hubble doesn’t produce “ pictures “. It produces computer generated images stitched together using data.
Those images are an interpretation of what they think galaxies might look like. Basically nothing can see that far and you are looking at images made on a computer. Sorry to disappoint.

@@ThatOpalGuy lol, my thoughts exactly 😋
The nice thing about what you do is that if the business part fails for a day you still get the satisfaction the artist gets when he creates a gem like that. Amazing color really!
True
Happy 50th Justin 😀
Another absolute gem, some really great colours and patterns. The red and orange in opals has me looking at the colours differently as i didnt much like jewelry in these 2 colours before, lol. Looks like some block pattern and floral pattern to me
is there a "golden rule" about how much backing/too much backing should be left behind the color of the stone? I saw a saw a beautiful stone where the backing was so thick that the weight made it maybe 2x as expensive as "I thought" is should be. Thanks for the time you take to make these videos!
Justin is pretty good with taking a lot of the backing off, not everyone is tho because they can claim the opal is heavier than it really should be. If the back seems way too thick for the size, it probably is. 😉
It really depends opal to opal tho, as some have really thick, deep running colour, where as others just have a slither. If it's like 1cm wide 2 cm long and 1cm thick, but the colour is running 4-6mm thick, that's respectable, however if the colour was a real thin layer, that'd useually be way too thick, I'm no expert tho, just going from what I've observed over the years.
that's a floral mate c'mon you got to throw some harder ones at us by now :) and that's a lovely gem, nothing wasted in that cut for sure!
It sure is ❤️
Size doesn't always win the day. The quality is what shines through in the end. Your experience shines through in the final transformation. Bravo!
simply incredible as always, much love from oklahoma! and happy holiday season Black Opal Direct family!!!!
Perfect. One day I will get some popping color like that :). I finished my polisher and made it like yours and finished my first crystal opal with red, blue and yellow and polished perfect just like yours. Thank you for your videos and guidance in this wonderful world of opal.
There are some strong purple flashes in this one, and those always have my heart. 💜
Beautiful opal!! Even though it's much smaller, great job!!👍👍😁
Seems like it would have made a beautiful crescent moon shaped pendant. Although I know your business is calibrated cabs.
I think was a bit of mossy, maybe some pinfire, but mostly small flagstone with red orientation flash?'taking another look it shows 3d color too,or color on color, however that is named? Regardless it is very very beautiful.
A very pretty floral pattern. Great job, Justin!
❤️
I'm just in awe that nature takes millions of years to create something of beauty.
There's definitely pin fire there and I think maybe floral. Possibly some blue broad flash.
Either way Justin, assuming stone, this colour combo (which I think of as the full spectrum) is my absolute favourite.... Like crystalised rainbow! 😍🌈
I want to ask u a question... is there a video or could you possibly make one about valuing opals? Maybe going through all patterns and colors, and see how they combine with brightness, weight and darkness
After watching Justin's fingers for hours, I now get to gaze into his ear...(dont van gogh there)
"Could have been an amazing gem" (and promptly thereafter creates an amazing, albeit smaller gem)
Oh, Justin. You were expecting a cracker and was handed a crumb.
Still, a scintillating stone. Glad you were able to rescue that gem from nature's cold embrace.
Hi Justin, I hope you had an excellent birthday day 🥳 . That gem is beautiful and the colors are awesome it would make a gorgeous ring.
Wasn't quite as expected but atleast it didn't end up permanently lost or beaten by sand!
Beautiful in the end!
Have been watching your videos only for a while, absolutely love opal. I am guessing flagstone.
It is a pretty gem Justin, with a neat variety of colors. 😊 It shows darker at the end than a few shots a bit earlier! Would it be considered mostly 'moss' patterned? 🤔
Nice work! Although I don’t think “luck” has as much to do with the outcome as does experience and skill.
A lovely gem even tho it didn't approach your expectations. As for the pattern, honestly, I really don't have a clue what it might be called so I am free to give it my own name. I call it Webb pattern, not for the spiders but for the new telescope and the images of deep space that scientists share with us.
I'm impressed that you're greeted with a beautiful mug of coffee the second you get to the office!!! The gem is soooo beautiful. Wow
It turned out amazing I say mostly floral pattern and I am so glad you at least got a usable stone! Thanks for another great video Justin ❤
Ain't no crying in opal cutting.. son
Justin! I would love to see this stone in a plain yellow gold man’s ring setting. The colors are beautiful.
I love this gem! It looks much larger than tiny to me. It IS truly beautiful. Thank you, man!
Was that Tamikas idea, ohno!!Ohno!!! Put some Metallica on girl, lol
Justin I absolutely love the colour and that stone I don’t think I’ve seen too many others that had quite a bit of purple in it.
I love how dorky, fun ,loving, interactive, and super engaging. The way you've evolved your channel is Awesome.... Please keep doing your thang!

🙏🙏🙏
Pinfire with floral flash in it I have a few I have cut like this gem over the years a couple of them made it to my collection.
I love the videos where we don't know what's going to happen. Thank you for taking us on the journey
The ONLY place where we want to see sand is at the beach.
Sadly in this stone, not so much.
Not as large as you wanted, but still a beautiful stone for what it is.
True that
and, like sand, it gets everywhere you dont want it to be
That colour is stunning 🤩
Beautiful stone. I hope someone gets a lovely ring with this one, so it will entrance them often.
Love you so much and I think it looks like a gelly Bean not sure what pattern
Opal reminds me of the Northern lights in Alaska! Opal is without a doubt the most beautiful of all Gemstone! And you sir are an artist!
Lol epic intro! Glad you found your lost nobby!!
What a beautiful gem i love watching the final polish it just makes the colour come to life ⚒️
Hahaha best intro to date 😂🙌🏻
That turned out really nice. Well done. Thank you 👍👍👍👍
I see floral and some pink/red flash. Very nice stone, sand or not.
The color on that gem is so so pretty: is it floral with a bit of flagstone? ❤
Seems to be mostly floral pattern. Absolutley gorgeous ring stone!
Another immaculate stone cut. You can only work with what you have got! My old mother always used to say, "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!"
(Haha you got to work early after celebrating your 50yr milestone?) That cracks me up...
G'day Justin & crew, it would appear someone is trying to spam you Account.
I don't do give aways and comp's. I just like watching the video content.
Maybe when I'm down your way I'll get a chance to meet everyone?
Keep up the awesome video content Mate
My fairly uneducated (but getting better, I have an amazing teacher!). My thought is that it's a floral pattern with glorious color! Wow, did this turn into a stunner! Awesome video, Justin.
❤️
It's a relief that you still get a marvelous gem, I believe that looks like a floral pattern with a little flagstone pattern.
Not quite what you expected, but a stunning gem none the less, Happy 50th Justin!
What a beautiful stone. Although the bigger stones are awesome I like the smaller stones Of this quality because it puts such a gorgeous gem into the reach of people who can't afford $15k-25k
True that
Do you ever feel like you just doing what you're told? Just wondering?you open up the most beautiful stones. Week after week. Its awsome.
I do what the opal tells me to
It may be smaller than what you wanted, but it is a phenomenal stone.
Floral & Flagstone for the pattern! Wow, what a beautiful Gem! I wished probably as you do for more Carats, but what a stunner it is...
❤️
It's a sixties opal with flowers in her hair and soon to be either on a finger or dangling around the neck.
Super pretty floral and hope this week sees you having a good one! 🎁
You spring 🐔! or should that be spring 🐓! 😁
❤️
Loved the humor ot the hand holding coffee coming from off camera. That looks like primarily floral pattern to me, with a smidge of pin fire, & just a tad of flagstone...
❤️
Whoa! The blue to purple and the red to orange floral pattern! What a winning color combo this one is! It's a good thing I can't afford it I'd never stop looking at it! 💙💜❤️🧡
❤️
Looks more like a sand crater than a sand spot!
Agreed
Most of us just find a few coins down the back of the sofa
Flagstone and chaff for pattern. Looked like there was pinfire also when you first started cutting.
Flagstone and floral
Gorgeous color in that opal! The pattern like a combination of floral and flagstone to me.
❤️
This vid is the perfect example of a master craftsman
What a colorful crystal gem!!!!
I loved the intro and I'm glad that you found this knobby. In spite of the sand, you turned it into a gorgeous gem!
So there, sand!!!
Haha yeah go take a hike sand lol
jesus, that is one of the most beautiful stones i've ever seen. a true rainbow of colors and they're distributed so evenly.
That is so, so pretty, the red fire in it is great.
Beautiful little gem. looks like a mix of some pinfire floral with maybe some broad flash and yeah i agree better to look at the glass as full not empty even if its only full of air
❤️
That's gorgeous 😍, nice grind
