Lenny Pickett is not of this earth. Saw TOP at a small club in Boston after "Back to Oakland" came out in the mid 70's. The band was spectacular, but Lord Pickett made it even better. Absolutely the best show EVER! This video captured some of that for me. Thanks, Gene
Great video! I love things like this where you can tell this isn't a polished production video wise..............really catches the live thing really well. And what a band to catch live in a club no less!
My oh my, that was something else. I was bobbing around & dancing in my seat when Lenny was getting down during that solo, & then came his crazy legs! Awesome performance
Thanks for the video... believe me, I'm grateful, I just wish it wasn't recorded on a potato. In any case, the magic of TOP and Lenny Pickett just shines through.
@zwichdrummer My brother Mimi Castillo made sure - twice - that Shure Brothers microphone was on-axis to the LPickett saxbell. What a pro - this is that mic's only chance of meeting this task
the tenor man all the r and b bandleaders dreamt of - beyond people like menza charlie ventura rusty bryant boogie morton - pickett must be as heavy in the indutsry as chester rocco dave g..and greg adams would also be a go-to person on any level - really the tower has been too good for their own good - even james brown himself would have hired pickett and ill bet the godfather knew of the busker kid - when i see cab calloway tails flying, i think of LP - how cool if Pickett meant for that
where it is from 4:25 is the fattest music in NYC since lindy hoppers laid it down at Roseland - or JB at the Apollo - really Pickett is from another planetI
