Weird tangent on the Pixel thing. I used to have a Pixel 2 so I was really bamboozled to see it in the Gray Man on Netflix. This was a great time Jake, cool to have you around to share your thoughts on stuff.
Jake I've always appreciated the way you've taken the time to talk about older video games and keep the memory alive of so many like Freedom Fighters, have there been any recently you've wanted to jump back into? Mine would have to be Summoner for the PS2!
Q: I think single player games in let's say the last 10 years really got a lot better at telling just good stories. Stories that really draw you in and male you attached to the characters, probably mostly because great voice acting and better graphics, which help me more to draw me in at least. What are some really great stories in video games pre ps3 that you played? Dragon Valor (on ps1) is one of my favorites, it's been years since i played tho, so it might not hold up as good tho idk
medal of honor frontlines one of my favorite game ost not a track misses but story i dont know area 51 eternal darkness star fox liked most of them god of war I 2 doom 3 killzone speaking of killzone.......... like 9 years now
Shadow of the colossus and Ico come to mind for me. Two games that had masterful story telling subtly, and did it in a way no other media format could ever.
Hey Jake, I hear you talk about MGS very offen and how you love the games so much. I absolutely lived those games and wondered how you got into them and what you love so much about them. Who is your favorite character? Have you also read into the crazy lore so much? Thanks for all the video's man. I love your youtube presence. Greetings from the Netherlands
What are some of your favorite indie games? I just finished Unpacking and it was a really great experience. The FPS podcast is the one of the only podcasts that I seriously love. Love your content 🙂
Also, kinda funny to me that you nearly died in a snowstorm waiting for the xbox 360, only for it to probably red-ring you a month later. 😂 Glad you were okay though.
Hey Jake, you always sign off in the gameranx Friday show with “pizzas on me”. So I’m curious as to what your favorite topping is and what’s your least favorite?
The Spiderman 2 UMD really was special to me too! I was one of the 100,000 that got it with the psp! It was so Amazing! Whenever I showed it off people couldn't believe how good the screen was & how dope the games were!
PSP WAS MY SHIT GROWING UP, its funny you say it was your wifi mobile device, you actually reminded me that i was the same way, it was my favorite device, loco roco left a big impression on me. the psp was way ahead of its time and not many knew about it
Hey Jake! I recently played mafia definitive edition and mafia 2. (still yet to play mafia 3) but i absolutely loved mafia 1 remake and would put it in my top 3 games of all time! So my question is - Would you like to see a mafia 4 and if so what era/city would you want it to be in and how would you like them to improve the story? Personally i think making the family of the mc more involved in the story and showing their personal life troubles could lead to a great narrative. P.S love the vids at gameranx and i really enjoy these chill videos you do here too they’re always a treat.
My PSP was probably my first console in terms of being an intelligent gamer lol aka old enough to understand tech/games Syphon filter was also such an amazing and fun series. I wish they continued making games for it.
Do you watch any anime / read any manga? If so which are your favorites and which of them would you like to see as a video game if done right? What genre would you want it to be or what game would it be similar to? For me; I’d LOVE a Berserk game done how the new God of War games are. Brutal combat with weight that feel epic yet harrowing
What game series do you think made the biggest leaps in the same generation of hardware? For instance, SMB to SMB3 (NES), FF7 to FF9 (PSX), Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2 (XBOX360).
Hey jake! So Spider-Man 2 is “supposedly” coming out next year. What are you most looking forward to? Story, gameplay, graphics, etc. I know I am super hyped to play as black suit Spider-Man
I personally love Tony Hawk's Underground. If another underground type. Hawk game were to be released what features would you have implemented into the game to make it a better experience for older and newer fans?
Yo Jake, love the content. You mentioned Def Jam FFNY once before. It’s my all time fav game. Even though DJ keeps trolling would you like to see a remaster with online play, a new game with old and new artists and guests, or a brand new game with the AKI engine and gameplay?
Just adding my thoughts :) Def Jam games were such a classic. So many memories from high school. Unfortunately I don't see them getting revived anytime soon but I hope I'm wrong. For some reason I think they just never took the IP serious enough to try and continue it kinda like what happened with the G Unit games on PS2 where they did a few then just left it. But definitely would be interesting to see if someone else was to purchase the rights or whatever is required and bring it back coz it would be a hit if executed well
@@TheOnlyTaps I agree bro. Even if it was a different IP I would love to see the core fighting mechanics. 4 fighters, all kinds of weapons, crowd moves, wall throws, 5 fighting styles, and best of all over the top blazing moves.
Jake mentioning Tombi and Klonoa 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏 dude much respect i love these games so much I'm still waiting for a Tombi remake greetings from Queensland Australia 🇭🇲
You ever pass by that guy on main street in Sayville that had the collection of Deloreans in the back of the shop? That's the most amount of them I've seen in one place. I think he used to bring them to riverhead raceway.
Hey Jake, with the new wolverine on its way at some point, how would you want the story to be handled? Something from the comics, or maybe something in the same vain as Logan? Or something completely new and different? Thanks for the content!
Q&A question- Have you ever had played a game or watched a show that you felt changed the way you see the world or prepared you for a major undertaking? I finished playing Death Stranding a couple days before my 1st child was born. And I weirdly felt like it helped prepare me for fatherhood.
Q: What was your favorite Fallout game in the series? Also appreciate your videos. I do Basketball and trying to reach the bigger ranks, so when I get a chance to chill I watch your videos.
I’ve been a fan since the classic PMI days, and I’m so happy to see how much success you’ve found with Gameranx. How does Doing a podcast with childhood friends compare to doing a podcast with friends you met later in life? Thank you so much for all the work you do, I remember coming home from high school and watching your reviews on Halo 4 and Max Payne 3.
Q: I think I remember you mentioning in the past that you’re not big on competitive multiplayer games. Was there one that ruined it for you? Or was it just never your preference? I got super into League of Legends for YEARS but it took a toll on my mental health. I’ve since quit playing it and ever since then I’ve just been more easy-going, upbeat and have a more positive outlook on everything. I’ve also expanded what I play to other genres of games and find myself really enjoying games that I never thought I would (i.e. single player, story driven games, indie games, and much more non-competitive games).
Q: Hey Jake. I used to love playing some of the movie tie in games when I was younger like the first Incredibles game and Wall-E, and think it's sad they don't do that much anymore. What are some recent movies you think would have been cool to make a game for even if you think it would just be dumb fun? For me I think a doctor Strange multiverse of madness would have been cool. A good team could get so creative with that.
Yes when I was young I played a lot of movie games, they were just so much dumb fun. My favorite movie used to be wall-E (still is) and then I had the game on psp I was probably the happiest kid. From what I remember I also played spider man, cars, chicken little, kung fu panda, toy story, bolt They should make some like the new lightyear movie
The only midnight launch I ever went to was for the PS4 pro since I never had enough money to set aside for until then. I went to my local Walmart since that was the easiest option. No-one there even knew what the console was or that they got a surprise shipment for that evening. I asked the customer support desk to see if they could ring up the backend guys to see if they had anything new and they just happened to get to that pallet at that moment and carted it out to the electronics area where I helped undo the plastic wrap and peel off the battery warning stickers. Felt like Christmas to be the first person to even put my hands on those boxes after just being unloaded from transit! It was much different for the PS5. I got really lucky (but not really, see all that text below this?) and I'm probably one of the very few that followed the original intent that the pre-orders would go live the next day after the reveal because I woke up just after midnight after clocking out from internet stuff early that previous day so my mind wouldn't start racing and keep me up. As we all know that all went to hell and every retailer betrayed their starting time as soon as the reveal ended. I did not know that. So I ended up panicing and was met with crashing sites everywhere I searched and somehow around 3am by some miracle I was able to stay online just long enough to put an order through. I never even got a confirmation email until the following week from UPS that I had a pending order from the retailer then shortly after from the retailer itself. Come release day I had the whole day off just to wait for the package to ship. All I had the entire day from the tracking app was to expect the package "sometime soon today" then around 11pm I finally got an update that my order finally got to a warehouse in NY from a flight from Japan. I was pissed. Next day, same thing. "Sometime soon today", got another message "now at warehouse in Chicago". Another day wasted and I'm getting even more pissed. Following day it transfers to a warehouse near my house. I called them up if I could come pick up the order myself and that's when I found out that warehouse had a long 3 day weekend off. No clue why since it was between holidays so that also meant no chance that would happen. Next week rolls around and I get a surprise update saying it's now just a few stops away and about 5 minutes later I got it. Thankfully it has worked up until now strong as ever but I would have quit gaming if that was a DOA unit after all that lost time. A few discord friends were able to slip in pre-orders 48 hours prior to launch day somehow and they all got their orders perfectly on time come launch day. I was livid from the whole ordeal and the fomo but I kept that to myself until just now sharing this, now that I can look back and laugh at that shitshow. Certainly 2 polar opposite launch day experiences! So the big question for you. Which 2 console or gaming launches were your most polarizing? Obviously you know mine now but I think it'd be cool to know from you and your game industry friends if they ever had any day 1 experiences that made their year or could have broken them. I'm definitely tempering my expectations from here on out. If I can't get it within reason then I'll just mentally check out from it all so it never occupies my mind rent free like that ever again.
Hey Jake! We’re you a big Wii guy? I still play the wii with friends at college pretty often, and I truly believe it is still one of the best “party” consoles ever made. Wii sports forever 💪🏼💪🏼
Jake! I am curious to know if you have ever played the Xenosaga series, Episode 1, Episode 2 and Episode 3 on the PlayStation 2. That game was my top favorite RPG game, right next to a few others. :3
Hey Mr. Jake. Video games are cool and all, but I was wondering what some of your favorite books are? I love gaming, but sometimes a good book can be a nice break, and I was just curious if you have any particular ones that you love? Also thanks for all that you do, you seem like a cool dude 👍
my only Xmas list is... night controllers. where the buttuns are super soft and quiet. I annoy myself with the buttun clicking. I don't want to sound like I'm playing street fighter when I'm actually playing animal crossing.
OMG Klonoa 2! I completely forgot all about this game but I played the shit out of the demo on the ps2 when I was like 6. I think I had a disc with a bunch of demos and this was one of them. Never knew the name but loved the playing the 2 or so levels that you actually could. Thank you so much for reminding me, nostalgia just hit like a truck. Just bought remastered series on steam.
Hey Jake, love your work man! What would you like to see on a remake/reboot of Jak and Daxter? I would maybe like a return to the precursor legacy with an expanded world and some time travel mixed in akin to Ratchet and Clank. Or just full on M-rated gritty Jak 4. (Also bring back Sly Cooper)
Switch was also my last midnight release since I ordered the Series X and PS5 online and have gone digital with game purchases. I was living in North Dakota (don't go there, it sucks) when the PS4 launched, it was 14 below zero and there were tons of us outside waiting.
Hey Jake! How do you feel about streaming or making lets plays? Have you ever tought about doing it? Would be fun to see you playing and reacting games!
Holy shit I had totally forgotten about Tomba. I played the hell out of both of them and loved them back in the day. A Tomba remaster would be amazing to see. I've replayed it via emulation a couple times as an adult, and in my opinion it still really holds up.
I'm probably in the minority on this but the PSP never really grew on me for some reason (through no fault of its own that is). I enjoyed the convenience a bit back when I was in high school when it originally launched but I always laugh that I never played anything more than Burnout and the God of War PSP games coz I'm so used to like sitting down and gaming on a bigger screen. I think it's the same reason I don't game on my phone either, never bought a switch, never got interested in the steam deck. I'm too much a creature of habit with that laid back big screen comfy couch style gaming 😭😂 Great Q&A and watch as always 👊🏿👑
I didn't get a PSP until my favorite game store, Play N Trade, went out of business. I was one of the best customers so they sold it to me for $50 bucks with bunch of accessories and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Resistance Retribution and Pixeljunk Monsters Deluxe. Like most handhelds I didn't play it much even though I have owned most of them. The only one I really stuck with a bit was Vita because I could get trophies and it lined up with a time I had a job with more downtime.
Thanks Jake, always love you involving the fans with questions, that aren’t always VG. Question 🙋♂️ Will we see a comeback for the X-Men Arcade game from the 90’s? The side scroller one, where I’m always picking Colossus? Thanks buddy 👏🍕🤙
This has definitely been brought up before but what's one thing u feel is missing from modern gaming? For me its things like EA BIG and that kinda tone of late Gc/ps2/xbox to early 360/ps3, Ive been replaying ssx tricky and Fifa street 2 recently n it brought back so many memories of couch co-op with my brothers, ended up looking at Eddie n psymon from ssx n just thinking "damn they really don't make em like this anymore". The doc that comes on the ssx disc too, amazing, just some cool people tryna make a fun ass funny game. keep making cool vids man
I remember getting my first and only psp I got it Christmas morning, it was the special white one that came with assassin's creed and I got little big planet with it too it was awesome. Jake idk if you answered this before but what was your actual first time playing a game. Mine was when I was like 6 and I played the robots movie game then immediately moved on to Gun lol
Man i love Apocalypse on the PSOne, lets please talk about it in another video or the next Q&A. I also thought this was the sequel or prequel to the Fifth Element back when i was a kid
3:21 there’s something about this man in this role that I can’t explain. I guess it’s a man crush? I dont know. His voice, his hair, he’s handsome, his line delivery..im just like wow. I wish I was bros with this dude.
Jake you are by far one one of my favorite youtubers and even though I rarely play video games these days I still tune in because your takes are always top notch and your positivity is always a highlight! Plus I'm a major Robocop and X-men fan here too 😂 (I was VERY salty about the Gambit movie) My question is what are your take on Video Game ip board and table top games? I was at my local game store and they have games for Horizon, Souls Games, even Sniper Elite and I was just wondering if you had ever played any or been interested in trying them out!
I'm glad to hear someone else was worried about the Gambit solo movie too. Gambit is probably my favorite member of the X-Men, and it didn't seem like they did enough legwork to bring him into his own movie. Additionally, even though I like Channing Tatum more now as an actor, he didn't really seem like a good fit.
In sorta the same vein as games to turn your brain off to, how do you feel about cozy games? Games like Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Stardew, Minecraft, esc. I can never really commit to them but also have noticed they are a great gateway for people who usually don't play a lot of video games. My fiance doesn't really ever play games, but she can't put down Stardew. Love the videos!! Keep up the great work! I bought THPS 1+2 Remake because of your videos and it's all I wanna play right now so thank you for that too.
Bbrrroooooooooo DONUT MEDIA is my favorite car channel and you're my favorite video game channel and to hear you mention them is like a dream, like you're speaking to me directly haha! If you're ever in OC I want to buy you a beer!
"Concept art come to life", I'm pretty sure that's a phrase I've seen you use before, but I could be wrong. Regardless, its meaning is pretty straightforward and it's a phrase that deeply speaks to me as both an aspiring artist and an avid enjoyer of games and movies. I'm just wondering why is it so rare sometimes to find a case where the phrase applies? There often seems to be a disconnect between the initial art and the final product. I get that it's can be easier on paper than in practice, especially in the case of video games where you must create an interactive world from every angle, but we still have a few examples that break that barrier. I recently played Eidos' Guradians of the Galaxy, and not only is it a lot of fun, it also has a lot of beautiful environments and character designs. I also remember you talking a while ago about the Order 1883 and that's another great example. Even when it comes to film, Dune is a perfect example, but I feel it's a part of a very exclusive club where the phrase really applies. I don't know, guess it's not something you can truly answer, but I'm curious to know your thought about the matter. Sorry for rambling too long, imma tie my shoes and go to bed.
So... The Callisto Protocol in December. Dead Space Remake right after. Resident Evil 4 Remake early next year. Alone In The Dark is back, looks promising, and will likely come next year too. Plus serious leaks about Silent Hill and a number of promising indies/"AA" titles like Slitterhead. Is 2023 the year horror returns with a vengeance? It's almost all major classic franchises coming up together (oh, Eternal Darkness, where are you?) plus a couple of new things. Feels like many people are burning out on open worlds and online-only stuff, so maybe that's the right moment for such a comeback?
Jake have you ever played Warhawk on the PS3? This is my all time favorite war game, the ariel combat and ground combat all blended together so perfectly. I so badly want a remaster, I feel there hasn't been a game to hit that magical blend since. Thanks for all you do!!
QUESTION: What should Capcom do about their aging Resident Evil characters? Most of the main ones are in their 40's or 50's right now. Should they pass the torch to newer, younger character or keep following the gang into their 70's?
G’Day from Australia, Jake I really love your videos and your new podcast. Keep up the awesome work. I have so many questions for you. Are you big into VR? I haven’t seen you talk about it much. I’m incredibly excited for PSVR2! I’m really hoping hybrid games (both “normal” & VR) becomes a popular thing with gaming. I desperately want a TLOU part 1 & 2 to have these modes. What would be your ultimate hybrid game? Assuming one of the MGS games haha.
I love those old ps2 games like The Punisher, THUG2, and XIII. I was wondering if you love, and desperately need a sequel for, Psi Ops as much as I do? Shit also Area 51?! I never hear anyone mention that game

medal of honor frontlines one of my favorite game ost not a track misses but story i dont know area 51 eternal darkness star fox liked most of them god of war I 2 doom 3 killzone
speaking of killzone..........
like 9 years now
lel shadow man I and II ghosthunter
Shadow of the colossus and Ico come to mind for me. Two games that had masterful story telling subtly, and did it in a way no other media format could ever.
Hey Jake, I hear you talk about MGS very offen and how you love the games so much. I absolutely lived those games and wondered how you got into them and what you love so much about them. Who is your favorite character? Have you also read into the crazy lore so much? Thanks for all the video's man. I love your youtube presence. Greetings from the Netherlands
I love friends per second, you and Jirard are two of my favorite people here on the internet.
Oh man that's awesome. Thanks!!
What are some of your favorite indie games? I just finished Unpacking and it was a really great experience. The FPS podcast is the one of the only podcasts that I seriously love. Love your content 🙂
There's tons of retro shooters coming out on Steam and I love it. I'm actually more excited about those games than any AAA games.
Man I still have my blue 3000 from way back when. Love that thing to death, almost quite literally. It has seen better days hahaha
Love the shoutout to Donut Media. They make awesome videos about cars, that I think even people who arent hardcore car guys can enjoy.
Also, kinda funny to me that you nearly died in a snowstorm waiting for the xbox 360, only for it to probably red-ring you a month later. 😂
Glad you were okay though.
medal of honor Heroes 2 for psp was the best multiplayer experience I've ever had.
I’ve seen a bunch of your work before but never realized you had your own personal channel! Love your stuff man!
🤯I was playing on my psp watching this video when my comment came up ! It’s such a cool feeling to feel like you were directly talking to me !
I bought a psp in January 2021 so I could play some ps1 games on the go once I modded it. Great choice!
A cynical and negative person in New York City?????? Never.
You’re great Jake, always cherish listening to you talk about games and media
My PSP was probably my first console in terms of being an intelligent gamer lol aka old enough to understand tech/games
Syphon filter was also such an amazing and fun series.
Just adding my thoughts :)
Def Jam games were such a classic.
@@himofn True that 💯💯💯. Fingers crossed 🤞🏿
I'm so glad someone mentioned Apocalypse.
Good fucking memories.
👍👍
Got my PSP for handheld emulation and my Vita for my portable MGS playing. Excellent little consoles
El Paso Elsewhere looks awesome! Added it to my Steam wishlist. Thanks for the heads-up.
Yes! Glad to hear it
Jake mentioning Tombi and Klonoa 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏 dude much respect i love these games so much I'm still waiting for a Tombi remake greetings from Queensland Australia 🇭🇲
Q&A question-
Have you ever had played a game or watched a show that you felt changed the way you see the world or prepared you for a major undertaking?
I finished playing Death Stranding a couple days before my 1st child was born. And I weirdly felt like it helped prepare me for fatherhood.
Love your videos Jake ! I was wondering if you had a favorite Assassin's Creed protagonist ? Keep doin what you're doin man
one of my favourite people when it comes to talking about video games
Really liked hearing about your history Jake. Love your stuff, you are a bright spot in the games industry!!
Thank you Jake for answering my question ❤
You mentioned in this video that you love Tron. How do you think a AAA Tron game could work? Open world, strict racing, linear story telling?
From what I remember I also played spider man, cars, chicken little, kung fu panda, toy story, bolt
They should make some like the new lightyear movie
Love the honesty in this one 😂😂😂😂
you mentioned vampire survivor in one of your video and curse you! you've got me hooked lol love that game thanks for the suggestion
Hey Mr.
Antony is incredible in The Boys, if you are a fan of his you MUST watch Banshee, that show is just awesome!
I've replayed it via emulation a couple times as an adult, and in my opinion it still really holds up.
dude I had spider man 1-2 and ghostbusters on UMD, used to watch those on my PSP so much growing up.
hey jake! have you ever dabbled in dungeons and dragons or any other ttrpg’s? love the content man
I'm probably in the minority on this but the PSP never really grew on me for some reason (through no fault of its own that is).
I'm too much a creature of habit with that laid back big screen comfy couch style gaming 😭😂
Great Q&A and watch as always 👊🏿👑
No question this month, I just really enjoy your content on both channels. Shout out to Falcon.
I was over android too. I switched to IPhone and the last iPhone I had was the 3GS. I actually enjoy being in the ecosystem.
As an X-men fan are you excited for X-men 97, and who are most excited to see them visit with the continuation of the storyline.
Are you into the competitive multiplayer scene? You dont talk much about it. Keep up the awesome work man!
Was a gameboy/DS guy during the psp era. Tried to hop in with the vita but we know how that story goes
Jake, you’re just the best, man! I love your content!
Plus I'm a major Robocop and X-men fan here too 😂 (I was VERY salty about the Gambit movie)
My question is what are your take on Video Game ip board and table top games? I was at my local game store and they have games for Horizon, Souls Games, even Sniper Elite and I was just wondering if you had ever played any or been interested in trying them out!
The pic of Peter Parker after he mentioned his college classes😂😂
Out of all the RUclipsrs / comedians / podcasters I follow.. somehow Jake is still in my Top 5 💪🏽
The too much of a good thing hot take is honestly so true man
Bbrrroooooooooo DONUT MEDIA is my favorite car channel and you're my favorite video game channel and to hear you mention them is like a dream, like you're speaking to me directly haha!
