- Pearlweed aquarium plant care. This plant is probably the easiest non-CO2 Aquarium carpeting Plante you can use. It is extremely popular for that reason of carpeting your fish tank. To effectively grow and care for aquarium pearlweed all you need is a descent light and nutrient substrate. Find yourself a substrate to use in your fish aquarium that has nutrients to feed the plants like soil Aquasoil, or stratum.

I disagree about pearlweed needing good substrate.
I have both dirted and sand only tanks and Pearlweed grows the same in either. If anything I think it grows faster floating.

@Tom shaji yea, any condition really. Currently growing it barebottom with lead weights.
So I was at the pet store picking up feeders and I saw they had some pearlweed and I thought it was pretty and I’ve been getting into aquatic plants lately so basically it was an impulse buy but I wanted to clarify, will it be okay if I were to leave it floating or does it have to be grounded?

Can I really grow it with sand? I have black sand gravel and I dont if it’d grow

just got some pearlweed from aquarium co op! hopefully it does better than my rotala indica, I also picked up easy green so it should do better :)
My pearl weed flopped my fish eating it up pretty much gone now lol I ordered some last week it did terrible as the fish will eat it !

I have several aquariums with the top covered in pearlweed as a floating plant, so the nutrient rich substrate isn't really necessary. It absolutely grows gangbusters as a floating plant.
Instead of topping my Pearlweed, I'm going to cut it down at the sand layer and plant the whole piece elsewhere. Thanks for the planting tip of sideways planting. I'm using Father fish method of tank feeding for the plants. I'm in my 3rd week to get some plants to send out small shoots. Pearlweed is coming in a few days.

I also grow Hemianthus without CO2. For him, the main thing is bright lighting🤝
I heard the best way to get it to carpet low is to tie it in clumps to broken up ceramic tile, bury the tile in good substrate with plant on top, wait 2 weeks and it will start to grow side ways and off shoot vertical side shoots and just clip the side shoot, rinse and repeat.

Ok tattoos I see you. I am trying to get into aquarium plants, everytime I've ordered I've gotten snails, and I'm not opposed there's just so many.🙄
Awesome thanks ! one more important thing about Pearlweed, why I LOVE it and grow it in every tank with me is ... if you travel and had no auto fish feeder, fish WILL eat this plant for survival. Some fish will eat it anyways
