    My favorite plant is jungle val. It takes care of itself and grows in everything! Makes me look like an expert even when I'm not doing anything 😎

    It may be boring, but my favorite plant is probably needle leaf javafern. It looks really good once you get a big established specimen and almost no maintenance needed. Also, a fan of bronze crypts.

      not boring at all and to be honest needle leaf java fern is still a medium landscape commodity, a decent clump still cost quiet a bit due to the slow rate it grows

    I really like Crypts. They look great and always cool to see the fish swim in and out of them. I have a nice Crypt jungle on the left side of aquarium for my Cardinals and Glo Lites. The pearl weed does look really nice as well

    Your and others gave such a great review for pearlweed I put some in the 240 with rainbows. I now have 40% of what I bought for $2.99..ha. They like the taste of it.
    That's the thing with Rainbows never mentioned...they will munch the more small leafed fine textured plants. Like salad. I thought they would..but hoping it survives to make a comeback.

    My favorite is probably Pogo. Stellatus "Octopus". Just because it's so unique in it's leaf structure, and it's insanely easy to grow, at least in my experience. Also multi-use. I've had it in a 75 gallon, and in a 20 long, and even in a 2.5G Betta Tank. Works great however you do it.

    And pearlweed is my favorite also because of the things you mentioned but i bought a little bit of it six years ago and i still have it. Same plant only it's been propagated for six years. Some people can't believe its the same plant. It is the hardiest plant compared to any other.
    Thank you L , keep up the good work 👍

    Crypt balansae. Just powers through everything. Fast and lush with no Co2.

    no.1 Java Moss..it always looks exotic and sets a mood. no.2 Italian Val. Nothing says underwater more then wavy Val in a current. Since re starting ( ok,one big tank) the hobby..Anubias barteri. I picked one up thats a foot tall or so,and it looks like I dug up a garden plant or a bought a tropical house plant and dunked the thing underwater. Great looking. Whats easier then tying the thing to a old chunk of live rock ( reef days) and put it in off center to get a good look?

    • @LRBaquatics
      @LRBaquatics  6 лет назад +1

      Somertimes, instead of tying them I will just stick a rock on the anubias roots to hold it down. No glue or string.

    maaan and i had plans of getting rid of mine.. (btw thanks for naming my second plant that i had no idea the name of it) now ill keep it.
    the things i learned about this plant
    water: doesnt matter
    temp: i have it outside in the tub that was frozen in winter still alive so...btw peny wort and ludwigia does even better...
    Light: i bet it would grow even in the dark 24h
    co2: omg if u add it...definitely not needed
    carpet: good luck, i give u a week. note if u do continue you will get a nice looking moss type of carpet, but it will grow up and grow fast.
    Nutrients: didnt notice it to require anything.
    beauty: awesome looking plant
    best pairing: with valiseneria. i have it with nano val and they look awesome. val from nano became micro, i kept 5cm carpet of pw and i placed one baby val in the middle...now you cant see that val at all... does 1 year later val isnt 5cm tall and her runners doesnt even seem to reach even that.
    easy: depends... to grow, easy is not the word... you do nothin.
    Maintenance: yeah grows fast is a very thin stem plant so it breaks easy, roots are very tiny breaks easy - meaning tons and tons of break offs all over the place, and if you choose to do a carpet you might run in a problem where you wont be able to plant it...due to snails/fish/shrimp/current/sneeze it will root off and no matter what you will do - it will not stay there (trust me been battling for 8months till i accepted its not going to happen)
    versatility: well you see in the video... you can do anything with it.
    anything i forgot...ammm i forgot :)
    my favorite: love em all... if only one choice... you cant go wrong with bucephalandra...tho its hard to say it since all my buce melted down for no reason at all..or i blame guppy grass for it since all was good until it started growing like crazy...heres the story: picture that i have perfect jungle type of planted tank all plants minus buce fast growing plants...i had one stem of guppy grass from the begging (1 year it didnt grow nothin) then something went wrong since i noticed it growing literally from the bottom of then tank to the top like in days...was happy like hell started breaking it down and replanting soon like 3 weeks later i have half of the tank full of gg, still super happy...then another few weeks later of enjoying gg i started noticing leave floating around the tank and im like okey that ludwigia...but then another leaf and another and im like wait that buce leave and then i look at all buces and 90% of about 50$ worth of buce is gone... gone gone... all gg out and more dmg: most val had/have some sort of black coral alge, old ludwigia had green spot alge, all the tank has light brown alge looking coat, which is not alge, but some sort of silicate of sulfate coating. worst is that no matter how much water changes i do i cant reverse it. not looking for solution it needs a redo anyways...tho there are 2 more tanks before that one...

    • @LRBaquatics
      @LRBaquatics  6 лет назад

      Great breakdown, thanks for sharing!
      Thats interesting with your buce and guppy grass. For some reason in the tanks I have anubias and guppy grass in, the guppy grass isnt doing well and is dying off. I wonder if its because they are both column feeders.

I did put it into another aquarium, with some Bubbleyes and had some success with it they do eat it but have got some going in there right now.

    What is Pearlweed like at removing algae from the water? e.g. a tank that is next to a window with filtered sunlight - can Pearlweed keep that algae-free?

    • @LRBaquatics
      @LRBaquatics  2 года назад

      It can be good for soaking up excess nutrients which algae feeds off. You should always manually remove what algae you can. With direct sunlight or filtered if it continues to get algae on the glass maybe try a fish that would eat that like a pleco or ottos or even amano. Or you can try shading it more with a potted plant or something. Hope this helps.

      Best to grow it out as a mass then take that mass and cover it and weigh it down with substrate then after that you have to keep trimming “mowing” it to get it to grow out as a carpet.

    Anubis’s because it doesn’t melt in my very hard water.?

      My favorite plant is pearl weed. But if your talking Anubis’s it can live in hard water but does prefer soft water. Anubias is a slow grower so it doesn’t uptake much for nutrients so helps to have a faster to moderate grower to soak up those extra minerals like pearl weed or guppy grass.
