Kalos never got the chance to be expanded or revisited, which sucks. It's a shame because some of the areas (Power Plant, route to the snow town, victory road, route with Mamoswine) are fantastic - but the desert route is one of the worst in the series for me.
Anistar City was easily my favorite area in the game, the music and just general vibe of it was great imo
Despite not getting a third version, the lack of a third version means that the future Kalos remakes won't be missing any major content from the original games besides maybe the lack of 3DS specific features.

I play and replay the story but I never do the stuff after that more than once if at all.
We also keep complaining the games are rushed but we're expecting them to add in a game after the game too? Seems silly to me.

I mean, ORAS may be the golden example. An extra 2 or so hours of story content that works as a great epilogue makes ORAS that much more memorable to me.
Maybe some postgames feel unneeded because they don't justify themselves as much.
But when you look at the Johto games, if "postgame" means any after the league, the whole Kanto portion is great, even if a little underwhelming to me personally.
But idk, maybe that's just me. Either way, as long as people are having fun with the games, we should just appreciate what we like about them ig
@@Huedenne Pokemon games lived and died by their post-game content for me. Felt like endless worlds to explore as a kid with no friends that would play with me and limited access to the internet. How lacking it was in X&Y literally caused me to abandon the series.
The lead up to X and Y's release was honestly one of my favorite times to be a fan. They really went all out to market the shift to 3D and it was around the time a lot of bigger RUclips channels were coming up and covering them. It's also probably the most excited I've seen people in my real life be about a new entry, aside from Go. Then they came out and... they're fine? I like them more than Sword and Shield, but I'd have a hard time saying I prefer them to anything else. They just feel very unremarkable in hindsight, almost like they're on auto-pilot.
Was just thinking about this the last couple days. I think XY get overlooked for just how well they managed to transition Pokémon from a decade of 2D into 3D, and the outcome may not have been flawless but I’ll always find it impressive.

I remember playing these games in my teenage years particularly completing the main story in less than two days while in the hospital. Fun times. Not my favorite games in the series but were fun in their right.
X/Y was a very safe generation, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Instead of focussing on weird gimmicks, it intelligently focused on the things that mattered at the time. Streamlining the online interface, making competitive accessible, just having incredible pokémon designs, fairy type... It was just a set of solid games with no major strengths, but also no major letdowns. I like 'em a lot.
OR/AS is better in every single way.
After playing through XY again 2 years ago I will say that it sucks that they didn’t expand on the Kalos region storyline and gave the game a sequel. Also rewatching the XY/XYZ anime made me really question why a third game didn’t happen
Kalos, to me, is the last REALLY memorable new gen. It sucks they couldn’t expand more on Mega Evos after ORAS.

Pokemon X and Y was what got me back into Pokemon
XY was fantastic for shiny hunter with Friend Safari, Pokeradar, chain fishing, and masuda. It's where I went down the long long rabbit hole of creating a shiny living dex. It also had insane amount of Pokemon variety. You could get so many mons right off the bat. No one team would be the same.
While I do still recall decent amount of XY's set pieces, that's probably the ungodly amount of time I put into it for shiny hunting. The game's just way way too easy even for the most casual player to make the game memorable. The game did not want you to take more than a minute battling any trainers. They gave out powerful mons like candy. I mean, you can get a lapras, a kanto starter, a mega lucario when gym leaders never used them, and a snorlax. The e4 didn't even have 5 mons let alone a full team. Diantha is a joke with her team composition despite having one of the higher level team for a champion. And of course, the exp share without the gen 5 level scaling in place. It meant I was constantly 20+ levels higher than everyone else on top of the neutered team all of the trainers got. Let's not forget Pokemon Refresh. We probably saw how busted it was in BDSP when it was just forced on you.
Story wise, having 4 rivals just added nothing. It should have just been the player rival and Shauna. Team Flare is one of the weakest villains in the series with a fairly nonsensical objective. Az felt like a lost potential to get a deeper understanding of Kalos' History. He could have been a great way to showcase both the beauty and ugliness of the pokemon world. Diantha herself shows up twice and that's it. I think she has like two lines in the entire story.
XY just feels wholly unfinished. It is the one game that needed a sequel or a definitive version to flesh out Kalos. More than gen 5, XY needs that remake or revisit to give us a complete Kalos experience.
XY was the debut Generation for Hitoshi Ariga, the mangaka behind Megaman Megamix.
He has been designing all the fossil Pokemon since Gen 6. He also designed other Pokemon like Aegislash Line, the Corviknight Line, the Vikavolt line, Mega Beedrill, Drampa, Minior, Hisuian Sneasel and Sneasler. For SV, he designed Espathra, The Garganacl line, and Flutter Mane.
Whether you enjoyed these titles or not, X&Y will always be some of the most impactful in the series for many fans. If you were active online during that time, you know how much these games did.
Whether carrying the hype, re-invigorating many’s love for Pokemon, launching RUclips careers, etc. these games did it all! I remember launch day and how my friend group played in one room together discovering the new mechanics and see who could get the farthest. It was a magical era and they’ll always be a special title in my heart even with the shortcomings
This generation was the first appearance of my favorite 'mons: Pancham/Pangoro. Love them and no one else seems to.
X and Y got me back into Pokemon. Mega Evolutions, Kanto Starters + local starters. 3D sprites. The in battle sprites were high poly, so much so Pokemon still uses them (they are outdated now, but for a near release 3DS game, they were spectacular) Xerneas, Yvetal, and Zygarde. I really enjoyed X and Y.
XY are some of my favorite pokemon games. The jump to full 3D was amazing and spent so much time doing extra content like wifi battle or shiny hunting. Also adored the customizable characters.

These were my first pokemon games Christmas of 2014 (the next day I got omega ruby from Target) while Oras sparked my love for pokemon, X and Y are fantastic (easy) but fun. Also I hope megas come back
I still feel like I had way more fun with X&Y; from mega evolution being the best gimmick, PSS, new Fairy typing, fun mini-games, making getting into competitive less of a chore, and honestly feeling like a big step up from even Gen 5 (which I also feel is criminally underrated lol).
I was 7. While these weren’t my first Pokémon games (My sister gave me her DS.), they were still great.
Personally, yeah. That mansion you go to with the Furfrou puzzle, the first time reaching Lumiose city, the Gym where you get Lucario’s megastone, Mega Evo itself, the rollerskating. I haven’t played it in 8 years yet I remember so much. I’m way more excited to see how Gen 6 gets remade than Gen 5 at this point, since Gen 5 was already great but Gen 6 needs the remaking more.
Its crazy to me that the games are 10 years old. I remember walking to Gamestop with my friend the day before to buy a 3DsXL to set it up ahead of time for Pokemon. I was just starting college and now Im a full adult, married with a kid who loves Pokemon himself. I did like it and it had some of the best Pokemon team, my full team of 6 were all memorable and I wouldnt want to switch them out.

I was a lot older when I got into Pokemon, and by that I mean I was a freshman in High School. And this was my first Pokemon game. Honestly, still one of my favorites, even though it isn't my favorite anymore.
Gen 6 was what got back into Pokémon more than 12 after I had last played it, it will always have a special place in my heart.
These games have a beautiful theme about sharing life with your loved ones. While I think the story isn't perfect, releasing simultaneously world wide with all laulnguages on every cartridge made it easier than ever to share Pokémon with people all over the world.
As a redhead, I was excited when I could customize in this game and have orange hair, yet they didnt have it afterwards (SV's scarlet is the closest we've gotten to a natural redhead hair color since), so XY get a huge plus in my books just for that. I also found (at least for me) these were the first games where shiny hunting was fun.
I was 29 when these games came out, and they were my first Pokemon games so they will always hold a special place in my heart. However playing my first games in 3D made playing the older 2D ones harder to get into and appreciate, and I still haven't played Gen 2 and 5 because they don't have a 3D remake.
I remember getting Pokemon X & Y for Christmas back in 2013. Alongside my Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL.
They were my favorite 3DS games. I still remember my final teams for each games:
X: Delphox, Charizard, Talonflame, Vivillon, Xerneas, Lucario.
Y: Chesnaught, Blastoise, Pyroar, Lucario, Yveltal, Aurorus.
(I understand that my X team is probably the least balanced, but this was during the time were I didn't the idea of having a "balanced" team. I just used whatever Pokemon I came across or liked.)
You forgot to mention a pretty important thing: The introduction of fairy types! You said something about Sylveon, but I think the introduction of the Fairy type really shook uo the fabbase, for the better to be honest

God I just realized was 18 when this released. And I loved it to death. Black and White and this might be my favourite gens, next to Gen 3.
I’ll always remember and love my first Pokémon game. Me and my brother raced to beat these games so many times. I’ve probably spent hours just roller-skating circles around the main city.

This was such a cool discussion. I remember loving X and Y, but think Megas have been overhyped in recent years. But I'm a competitive player through and through.
As a fun video challenge, I'd love to see the GVG guys do some competitive battles in different generations and stuff. Either through Showdown or original hardware.
Gen 8 and 9 gave me more appreciation for gen 6 and 7 because compared to 8 and 9 they were actually, you know, finished.
I think a lot of Gen 6 has really held up like all the new Pokemon, the presentation of the game and the customization
I know these games are far from perfect but...these were my first pokémon games! I played this game TO DEATH back in the day when I was a teen, and it holds a very special place in my heart. it's such a wholesome game that always gives me a warm feeling when I return to it :) Seriously one of my favourite games for that reason
When I was a kid playing Pokémon Blue/Red, Gold/Silver on GameBoy, and then going occasionally to a friend's house to play Pokémon Stadium, we would sometimes say things like "man, how cool it would be if someday we were able to play Stadium level graphics on a portable like GameBoy", and stuff like that. Also, it was so easy to play multiplayer, online or local, and trade and battle.
So when X and Y came out, to me it was the most amazing thing that happened in Pokémon games, the battles had full 3D pkmn models, with great graphics, and my friends were all playing, even at university campus. However, at that time I couldn't afford a 3DS so it would be years before I actually played those games and then ppl had already moved from them. But I still think that those games were a great achievement for the series.
X Y was actually the first pokemon game I bought as an adult with my own money that I earned myself, so it was memorable for me, I also get to pick my first actual bulbasaur my first pick as a child back in mid 2000s(yes im late to the game my parents didnt buy me gameboy back in late 90s, so I emulated the game in the mid 2000s)

It did, I remember as that was one of the games I bought back when I picked up my 3DS; along with Samurai Warriors Chronicles and Nintendogs + Cats
The leadup to this game was so fun. Definetly one of the first games I spent hours looking up rumors for. When fairy type was announced I remember somebody uploaded a theory that Yveltal would be sound type because he looked like a tuning fork in the first trailer. Lmao
Bro, X and Y got robbed with no third version. Imagine if Platinum never came out and we only ever had Diamond and Pearl. Gen 4 wouldn’t be remembered nearly as fondly. Game Freak must make Legends: Zygarde to atone for this oversight.
It was memorable for me. It was the first game that I actually didn't know about. It may sound strange, I know. Gen 4 was my first game and at that time gen 4 was a bit old and for gen 5, black and white 2 have been out for a while. People were speculating when gen 6 would come out. And that was the first game I followed news about. I picked fenniken as my starter and wondered what it would evolve into. I also fell for a lot of rumors.
I will never forget the hype for Megas when XY were coming out.
XY was definitely THE game where I decided that I am just gonna pick the lady as my avatar for any most of the games going forward. Serena in XY had like 5x the variety in outfits and hairstyle. Calem gets jack and shit. I bought like two outfit for him and that was it. Sadly, instead of Gamefreak improving the men's fashion in gen 7, 8 and 9. they just decided to take away from the ladies. So, each new gen, fashion just become homogeneous to the point whee SV might as well not have any customization.
There will always be champions heralding each generation because it was the one they loved when they were 8-10 years old, and they usually start having a big online presence plus nostalgia a decade later. Unova nostalgia has been going strong for several years now, Gen 6 will have its turn soon.
i feel like x/y is one of the most visually cohesive 3D PokéMon games
X and Y still remain one of my personal favorites and I feel like it did a lot for the series that doesn’t get appreciated very much, mainly in terms of gameplay and accessibility into the series’ deeper mechanics. Halving the Shiny odds while providing a bunch of ways to Shiny hunt gave me the chance to really enjoy it without it being overly frustrating. On the competitive front, EV training became so easy with horde battles and punching bag resets, and it became a lot easier to get higher IV Pokemon. This gave me my first foray into raising competitive teams because the games made it accessible and quick.
It’s definitely not perfect - exp. share was nice QOL but the game wasn’t balanced around it, and Sky Battles became an active detriment for several games afterward by forcing a bunch of Pokemon into awkward flying animations.
But it introduced so many big QOL changes that went on to influence the gameplay in future games for the better, like with bottle caps in Gen 7 that furthered competitive accessibility. Easily the Pokemon game I’ve sunk the most time into as a result.
Thank you Nintendolife for the retrospective. This is the first mainline Pokemon video game I have never finished. Looking at my 3DS I'm reminded the last savepoint was in 2015 where I was exploring a cave with my party. I think for me it was the mix of high school and college prep that drew me out of playing video games for a while; especially ones like Pokemon that I've played so many times and a lot of time is spent on just "grinding" which led me to feel that I was wasting my time playing them. I'm not sure why I played and finished Pokemon Sun/Moon and didn't finish Pokemon X, but Pokemon Sun was the last mainline game I've finished. I've loved the franchise since I was a kid and have continued to love it due to nostalgia and some of the newer aspects Gamefreak brings to its different mediums for the franchise; but I'm no longer the same fan as I was with playing each new game unfortunately. I am very glad though there are some that have grew up with X/Y and can recall the great joy they had with the games similar to my experiences with the GBA/DS era.

Damn i feel so old! I just remember the announcement back in January 2013 in a direct, it’s just insane to think it’s been a decade since gen 6.
Gen 6 brought me back to pokemon but not x&y but ORAS brought me back to pokemon and even make me buy a 3ds back in 2014. But i I’ve play x&y after ORAS and to be honest i have a soft spot for generation 6 i like the characters in gen 6 and the pokemon in this generation and still think mega evolutions still the best gimmick and wonder trade is the best! Also this is the only generation I actually catch every pokemon and complete the natural dex.
Didn’t played generation 7 and played let’s go and hated it, played generation 8 and stop playing pokemon just because I didn’t like the gimmicks. Didn’t even try generation 9 because i just want my mega evolutions back.
I loved getting into competitive Pokemon from this game I created a team that got to 50 winstreak at doubles in the battle maison then I used that team for unofficial Pokemon events. Too bad I lost my copy of Sun which has my team I could always recreate it in XY.

Pokémon Y is probably my third fave game after Soul Silver and Leaf Green. It really got a lot life in my 3DS over the years!

Yes. Just for introducing mega evolution which has been my favorite Pokemon innovation over the last 4 generations, X/Y has been memorable for me. I hope we get more mega evolutions sometime in the future. Z-power, dynamax and terrastalize have just not had that "coolness factor" for me that mega evolution had.
Honestly I don’t remember anyone being negative on graphics of these. Personally I think they still look great because of the art direction. I also loved assembling the animated puzzles.
Gen 6 is goated. I love these games, and no one can change my mind.
I started with Gen 6 on the 3DS. I never considered myself a fan until then.
I played Sun Moon and honestly it didn't grab me as much. I'm trying the old games now starting with Yellow, and I can totally see what makes the fans of this franchise so...well, "devoted" to it, to put it best. But I stand by XY being my favorite because its what got me into Pokemon.
The anime on the other hand is a different story. I've been watching since Ash was still 10. Oh wait...
Really hoping that in 10 years when we get Gen 6 remakes that it'll come in the form of Pokemon Z, or maybe a post-game story or something
X and Y plus Smash were the ones that got me into getting a 3DS.

X and Y feel like a PS1 3D RPG, where BW/B2W2 feel like 2D PS1 RPG and SuMo feel like a early PS2 RPG.
I was 12 when this game came out and I was so hyped for this game, it was one of the first games I managed to get delivered a day before official release day, I absolutely loved the game as a kid, and I still think that mega evolutions are the best generation gimmick, and I had tons of fun with the online stuff in Gen 6. Looking back I definitely dont like it as much as the previous 2 gens which are my favourites and find its one that I don't go back to replay like the previous ones, I think Gen 6 was definitely a big change in style for the series and while I think its still a fun game to play through for the first time I just dont find that it has the same replay value as the previous ones which is a trait I feel all subsequent main series game continued with. I definitely have a lot of nostalgia for this game but it doesn't hold up as well as previous entries or some subsequent entries for me
Not a single comment about one of the best Pokémon I traduced in this game: Gogoat. I remember having one on my team and basically replaced Chespin as my grass type. With the ability to learn Surf, Earthquake, and Horn Leech it definitely had a very strong move pool.
It is a good game, I generally liked how it looked, was happy to see Pokemon go to 3d in a mainline game for the first time.

"gen 6 is a decade old now" stabbed me in the chest. i was in 3rd grade. now i'm a sophomore in college.
I have amazing memories with X and Y, good times.
I was on college when this come out, I bought my 3DS for this game and made me company all those years until Sun and Moon came out, but honestly I have better memories with this gen even with all the bad things and bad executions of the games. It made me love pokémon again and it made me bought one of the best handheld consoles in the market. Such great memories.
I’m here since gen 1 and I think X & Y showed a lot of potential but ultimately they fell short.
They introduced a new type, megas, quality of life improvements, proper online multiplayer, orchestrated music.
Gen 6 as a whole was very exciting.

I played the heck out of this thing. Did like three full playthroughs. It's barebones , but that means what's there goes down real easy. The vibes of the region are great.
I was just playing X a couple of weeks ago. And these games were great. Yeah, the lack of a Pokemon Z really, REALLY stings, but ultimately I liked what these games were going for. There's a charm to everything, especially the new mechanics - Hordes, Sky Battles, the Roller Skates, Inverse Battles.... Such awesome music too. People rarely talk about X and Y's soundtrack, but there's some true gems in there. The regular trainer theme, Santalune, Lumiose, The Power Plant, Laverre, Dendemille, Cyllage, Snowbelle, Route 8, 15 and 18, Team Flare's battle theme, Lysandre's battle theme, the Rival fight theme, And especially the Gym Leader theme, Elite 4 theme, and Diantha's theme.
What Gamefreak really should do is turn Pokemon Z into a truly ambitious, ORAS-style remake. That would redeem Kalos for a lot of people.
This x and y was the peak for me in Pokemon, I remember going to the midnight release in time square. It was so fun I still have pictures from the release. After this game I slowly started to lose interest in the games, but I loved this game.
Ironically enough, for having no post game XY is the Pokémon game I put the most time into in one save file since its where I majorly got into competitive play. I love XY and Gen 6 but I think something you guys missed or just don't think is that Gen 6 is where the corner cutting that Pokémon has been doing for a long time started.
X and Y are some of the most plain, vanilla Pokémon games. Almost feels soulless. Nothing bad, but nothing amazing either. I think I have better memories of things surrounding it than the game itself - My whole high school friend group coming together, playing it at the same time, everyone going on the same journey and we’d show each other off our teams. Elevated the experience a lot but I don’t think I could ever play it again. Just doesn’t stand on its own as anything
This game came out when I was in high school and was the first game I got with my own money. It was the game that got me caught up as I was young when platinum came out and I skipped out on Gen 5. I loved it when I first played. Sadly the more time that went by, I became one of those detractors. Having recently replayed it earlier this year, I found much more enjoyment from it. Not my favorite of the bunch but I definitely have a better appreciation for it.

I've been feeling the urge to replay a Kalos game lately and this video might have tipped me over the edge, I'm starting up my copy of Y for the first time in a whiiiiile.
X and Y was when I got back into Pokemon, I always kept up with the series, to see the new guys, but because of a series of seizures I quit playing the games shortly after the debut of Diamond and Pearl. I bought the XY special edition 3DS and for awhile X was my only 3DS game. I still say Gen 6 was a great generation.
Gen 5 and 6 are my favorite gens. Gen 6 is awesome
X and Y was my return to the series after the 2nd gen. I played a tiny bit of 3rd and 4th gen, but never cared enough to want my own copies. I finished Y (still haven't finished Moon), but I don't remember a lot about the game. I had a lot fun with it (more than I did with Sword), but the campaign didn't stick with me too much. I mainly remember starting with Fenniken, then restarting and choosing Froakie when I saw that I could also get a Charmander, and the main hub city.
The best part of gen 6 was the Japanese opening theme for the XYZ anime. Absolute banger.
I really enjoyed X and Y, loved how many pokemon were available, loved how it looked and loved the mega evolution mechanic. I remember predicting that we would get the kanto starters as they kept showing charizard as part of the trainers team in trailers. I actually think it was a much more ambitious and interesting effort than sword and shield was for switch. I also really liked the exp share, got rid of grinding which I hate.
Exp. Share in X and Y didn't "split" it between all the Pokémon, it GAVE it to all the Pokémon.
In Gen 1 is where it split it between all the Pokémon. However the Exp All was pretty much a super late game reward in Gen 1.
Where are my Chespin Family Stan's at?! My personal favorite line from this generation. The juggernaut growth is awesome!!!!
I was 23 when they came out and I really do think they're great games! I was so disappointed that there wasn't a third version that very obviously should have existed. Oh, O Powers were cool too, even though you had to navigate too many sub-menus to get to them. It was rough coming off of Black/White where there was actual character development and nuance, and then having 5 separate rivals who were sort of caricatures of themselves, if that makes sense. Anyway, they gave us Megas which remain the only noteworthy gimmick in 10 years, so they hold a special place in my heart.
There was something about both gen 2 and 6 that made them feel magical to me. I'm not sure why exactly that is, but I feel incredible nostalgia for both. It's not like I don't like other gens; I loved 3,5,7, and 9 too, but there is just something about 2 and 6 I can't place my finger on
Agreed, I think both of those games are paced so well which made me play more and more. Plus lots of random love in weird places like learning about chain fishing and the perfect fish spot. Cool little details that didn’t have to be there but add to the experience

I think X and Y are good for two things in particular more than anything else. They're very replayable thanks to a highly diverse Regional Dex and not being too tedious to progress through. And it has the PSS, which is the single greatest piece of online connectivity Pokémon has had to date, and it is beyond baffling how hard they IMMEDIATELY regressed away from it afterwards. The PSS is the by far the most standout feature in the entire game, which itself encompasses many solid features and intuitive online interaction.
Super Training and Pokémon-Amie are also decent features that although a little half-baked, tapped into important elements the series had to that point kind of neglected. Super Training made the EV-training element of competitive play far more approachable, even if it wasn't very time-efficient. But it also worked well to complement the manual effort of grinding wild Pokémon for EV's, for example. On the other hand, I think the Pokémon-interaction aspect introduced by -Amie is still a little weak even now. I think they have yet to find a way to truly make that part compelling.
As for actually playing XY... the campaign is incredibly unremarkable to me. It's serviceable and playable enough, but bland and most of the characters range from annoying to forgettable. The way they try to shove the friend group down your throat with nicknames and all is immensely cringe-inducing.
Mega Evolution is a neat idea, but I think the distribution of it (both in terms of the mons that get it and how tiny the pool of available Mega's before post-game is) and needing to sit through a lengthy unskippable animation for it with every use really hurt it, and it's also supremely overpowered if you were to just use it in every regular battle in the story. Not like XY are hard games either, even by the series's standards. Don't even need to exploit the EXP. Share for that, though if you do use it, it becomes apparent super quickly that the game was not balanced for it in the slightest. It may well have been a late-development change. You'll outpace the level curve at a dramatic rate if you keep it on. Reaching the low-mid 80's by endgame is plenty feasible without grinding, which is well past the champion's highest.
All of that is to say... it's not actually an unenjoyable experience... but it doesn't excite me in any real way outside of the PSS. It's just fine.
I always loved X and Y, though I tend to greatly enjoy every pokemon game as I'm not especially picky. swsh is actually my current fave and I can't wait for the pokemon cycle to hit and swsh finally get the love it deserves. but I'll never not be mad that XY gave us the best customization hud that every future game, while getting upgrades in terms of options, sorely fails. how on earth did they START with us able to access everything we owned+whatever's in the shop, so we can mix and match and make sure colors look ok together and the style doesn't clash, it was SO easy. now I have to save, buy what I want, go into the dressing room to look at the new stuff with my stuff and it's all mixed together making new things harder to find, then reset and buy only the items I liked (assuming I could afford all the items I liked in one go and don't have to repeat that step) and it just takes so LONG now! it's the dumbest thing yet it makes me *unspeakably* angry, considering how fantastic it was from the get-go!!! who decided this was wrong!!! I just wanna talk :)
XY was actually my favorite pokemon games, after Crystal
X and Y might be the best 3D games so far.
No one seems to care as much as I do, but the reason I love X/Y so much is the huge amount of catchable pokemon. No other pokemon game has so many options.

Pokemon X is the only pokemon game I finished and actually enjoyed. RPGs aren't my thing and, to be honest, I helped my brother to beat the game and ended up having fun 😅
I love the Chespin evolution line, dude was my starter of choice

Another reason I enjoyed this game when it first came out was because the pokemon you could find in the initial areas were from a bunch of different generations, which felt really cool being able to make a bunch of unique team compositions early on. But overall this game felt really hand-holdy and the friends that were traveling along with you were super annoying.
I think XY being the first true delve into 3D has a lot of merit, albeit it is still a divisive entry. I personally like it as a a Pokemon game, and its biggest weaknesses (while definitely a problem) will become far worse in future games.
