OK so 8 years later, I just picked these up at a thrift store, unfortunately it was just the pans, no box or directions. So your little video helped this senior out a lot! Thanks!

*You’re supposed to rub oil on both sides before stuffing the tortilla into that little shaper. It’ll be crunchy instead of just crispy.👌🏽*

That’s odd because the boxed ones come with the holders/molders and it tells you to place the tortilla over the top (technically the bottom) of the bowl and shape slightly. As the tortilla heats up and softens it molds around the bottom. I guess you could do it both ways though. You would get a deeper bowl placing it on the inside and a more shallow bowl if it molds around the outside. Just a suggestion.

    YES🖤🖤🖤
Like several other ppl here found them used wasn't for sure what to do with them when baking! So this video was perfect for my questions!
And the commercials I looked up were helpful with ideas so I'm buying extra large ones for my guacamole dip

Absolutely USE OIL on the tortillas before baking. This will also allow a pinch of salt to stick better immediately after taking 'em out of oven).
Consider slightly softening the tortilla by heating in microwave before putting into shape.
Note: like the upside-down pan trick, these shapers would likely work well upside-down, too.

I dab both sides with Canola oil so it's not so dry. just use a paper towel to dab it on.

I have had these pans for about 2 years. I decided it was time to see if it made the perfect taco salad. Well i was pleased with the outcome. I didn't oil the pan but what I did do (a trick my grandmother taught me) is I wet my hands when I was fitting the tortilla into the pan so the tortilla wouldn't tear. It worked. I had a perfect tortilla salad with everything I liked in the shell. Nice lunch. Love this pan. Its quick and my go to for something quick to eat.

I tried the dollar tree version. It only has 5 prongs - which I think makes a difference, because it was hard to shape the tortilla to the pan. I even heated the tortilla up in the microwave to make it softer, and it didn't fit like these ones do.

They deep fry them in a wire shape for a taco salad bowl. It gives a white airy crunch to it, which is much better and authentic.

Here's how I make my taco salad to get your tastebuds going to inspire you a bit. I wrote this up before considering trying to make my own flour tortilla taco bowl shells though, so just wanted to let you know that.
      _______________
This is a _SUPER_ filling meal (it makes multiple meals too so the prep time is well worth it)...
In a bit of olive oil, I sauté 1 diced bell pepper (always start with this alone first for awhile, because the bell pepper takes the longest to cook, and the garlic takes the least amount of time), 1 diced onion, and as much minced garlic you like.
Then I add in a package of fake ground beef because I am a vegetarian (my favorite is the Trader Joe’s version, but the kind made by MorningStar Farms or Gardein - both found in the freezer section of your grocery store - are great too), 1 can of black beans (be sure to rinse your beans!), 1 can of rinsed lentils (that is TONS of protein between those last three ingredients, yet NO heart disease!), and canned corn last, also mixing in salt and pepper to taste at that point.
I am the type that can’t stand hot/spicy stuff, so I don’t add taco seasoning in with my fake ground beef. If you like that stuff, then add it! :)
Then after that is all warmed up and mixed up good, put your fire on the lowest you can just to keep it warm as you finish preparing the rest of the salad. I put four Ortega yellow corn taco shells* in my toaster oven to heat them up just for a bit to get them hot (don’t burn them!), and after they are hot, I put them in a huge deep dish salad bowl, whereby I then spoon in some of the meat/bean mixture into each shell.
*Side note: during this BS lockdown over the common cold, my store was out of my Ortega corn taco shells, so I used four flat corn tostada shells instead, and they worked just fine (although they seemed to absorb moisture more than the Ortega corn shells for some reason).
I _IMMEDIATELY_ put on all the shredded cheddar cheese I want, so that it will begin melting right away from the hot taco shell and meat/bean mixture’s heat, and then crush it all up and mix it with a fork, so that the shells are smashed up and the cheese gets all melted in real well. You can always stick it in the microwave if your cheese isn’t melting enough for you.
Finally add in on top of that (in this order) sliced black olives, cut up cubed pieces of avocado, finally shredded iceberg (preferred) or red leaf lettuce (cut with your knife real finely so that it is like shredded - don’t use an actual shredder), diced tomato, sour cream, and tons of mild La Victoria red taco sauce! Mix it up real good right before you are going to chow down.
It's absolutely glorious I tell you. :D Give it a shot! Kidney beans are also an option to add in or sub for black beans or lentils - I wouldn’t forgo the fake beef for anything though.
If you consider making one, enjoy! It is hands down one of my favorite meals. Sooo satisfying and filling, providing tons of energy, and I love how the leftover meat/bean mixture lasts so long in the fridge, so I can make tons of meals with it! :)

If I bought that I'd still deep fried mine. Fried tastes better. lmao

    • @jeffpansini9612
      @jeffpansini9612 4 года назад

I agree. And it looks better fried too. But that means you 1st have to bake them, take them out and put it in boiling oil. Isn't there an easier way?
