@@SimpsonsClassics haha yeah, I've only had 1 incorrect part in 6 months and 5 Volvos so far, and that was just a too short length wire on a lambda, good old Polar Parts & Skandix 💪
@@Involvod that’s not bad at all mate I do like shandix I used them to find my centre caps for the hydra wheels on the 940. Great company and fast delivery
@@Involvod If you get one, best not to put the brake fluid in it, just use it to pressurize the full MC reservoir with about 10 psi air, and keep an eye on the level as you bleed them. This keeps from having to wash out the device and saves fluid as well. Good luck!
i just dove into a brake caliper replacment on my 93 240, been having a time finding the right calipers which are the same as yours , most of them have 2 hose holes on them but as we have abs we only have onee . but the price holy crap
Nicely done. I have never seen anyone pressure bleed bakes that way before. Don’t think I will try it but it had a high entertainment value. Keep up the good work.
Solid job! There is a problem with front left caliper on my Volvo 245 - the wheel isn't spinning as freely as it should and sometimes on breaking I can hear nasty noise coming out of that wheel. I was thinking about purchasing new caliper from Skandix but as you pointed out in the video it ain't cheap 😔 Now my plan is to restore existing caliper by using Frenkit's repair kit. Thanks for such an informative video, it inspires me to do more jobs on my car by myself without visiting greedy specialists.
The look on your face when that guy pulled in! HAHA I laughed bigly. Where was he even going? It's nice to see that thing stopping with some reliability!
😄 he actually has one of the sheds further down the track, where the old man once drove if you ever saw that video. I was honestly bamboozled at first.
Ha! So great to see new shiny parts! Hope your brake job turns much easier and faster than mine :). Also did the bottle method with great results. Love your vids mate!
fixing volvos with bob ross is my favorite show! Great work man. it's looking great! I need to replace the ABS calipers on my 92 but dang I am cheap, they are super expensive! love your camera work, I need to up my game like this! Hopefully miss involvo'd doesn't watch this and find out you washed the rags in the washer XD
They are pricey, quite hard to find as well, I would definitely try and rebuild them in future, just had no choice this time as one was deleted. Thanks man for the feedback, really glad you enjoyed it!
I may have missed something, but the brakes on a 240 are a split triangle arrangement. That would mean starting with the right rear, then right front, left front on that system, the left rear, right front, left front on the second system. The other thing is with the colour of that brake fluid, you really need to flush the system completely. Last time I did that, it required 17 litres of fluid to accomplish. Also, looks like your front wheel bearings are due for a repack. In another month I will be replacing the front wheel bearings. The one side has a bit of play. Do that with the spring tire change. Can't complain, since the bearings have never been done, and Arthur's next service will be his 615,000 kilometer one.
@@Involvod Ahh, I didn't realize that fully new aftermarket Girling calipers were being made. Whenever I've gotten them at the autocrats store they're always remanufactured.
That sucks, I also had trouble finding them, most places only do non abs and they were much cheaper. I think if I had the old caliper I would use a rebuild kit
Hi man ! Would be cool and helpful If you did a video on what to check for before buying different models of volvo, like checking the engine and various parts
A little question, when the brakesystem is empty, does the brakepedal on the 240 actually travel all the way to the floor or does it bottom out in the master cylinder before the pedal hits the floor? After I replaced the brakefluid and bleed the whole system, when the engine is running and I step on the brake pedal, it seems like the pedal is bottoming out in something off of the floor, I can sort of hear and feel a bump, but I am not sure if it is a definitive stop, or if I am still able to move the pedal beyond this point, it at least takes great force at this point. When the engine is not running I never reach this point where i hear /feel the bottoming out.
Shiny parts are the best, nothing as satisfying to fit to your car. Was waiting for you to reverse into the guy 😂, would've made for an 'interesting' video.
It's one of many tools on the list 😅 Thanks! I used a clay bar on it and it made a huge difference, I got some footage of it. The inspection is way stricter, I have a video coming on it in a couple of weeks and you won't believe what they can fail 🤣
"Heavier than a baby" now an official scientific unit of measurement
I just now googled the average weight of a baby.. 3.3kg, a Volvo 240 caliper weighs 3.3kg.. 😄
Babies are an American unit of weight. Tonnes are about 9 and half washing machines using the American system.
Miss the 240 videos, im watching the old ones like 4 th time lol
Buying the bleeders that have a check valve in them made single person brake bleeding a breeze. Your method was pure genius. Excellent work.
It definitely would make more sense! But I'm glad you enjoyed it 😃
i love how you post whenever i need to fix something specific on my 240

Interesting to see Girling calipers without the Girling 'G' and gripping hand logo cast into it.
I didn't realise that, they must be knock offs, but I'm not worried about quality issues Skandix are pretty good when it comes to that
