Bill- Thanks for your video again and for clarification on the power beyond. It’s because of people like you that we learn and make better decisions when buying products and such!
Hi C Dee I went to the dealership today and they confirmed the power beyond is in fact gone, but this new design is supposed to do everything the power beyond did. This video is 7 months old and I have used the backhoe many times during that period. All I can say is this design works, and its easier to connect and disconnect the backhoe. So I'm comfortable not changing a thing.

You will really enjoy your top link. I have both the top and side cylinders on my tractor. When I bought the tractor my first job was fixing my very long driveway and I wanted to control the box blade from the seat. Since then I have found it very handy in hooking up implements on uneven ground to the quick hitch. These should be standard equipment on a tractor.
Hello Anthony I always enjoy traveling to Raleigh, always wanted to retire there. Hope all is well with you and your family as well. Thanks for saying hello.
Hi from Clermont, Florida, Bill! Looks like I'm in good company -- same tractor, same hydraulic top link (got mine at Tractor Supply, tho), same bend in the link's hydraulic tube, and same solution by removing the top link hanger hook. No leaks, tho, and it has been quite a while, so I am just leaving everything as is. It's certainly not the only bent part on my tractor, and the top link works fine in spite of the bend.
What did you do besides flip the connector arm? The “ flipped” hydraulic connector arm has no paint and looks different from the “connector” in the beginning of the video.
Sounds great Robert, I've got you on the map, must be beautiful there, hope to travel that area some day. Good luck with your project, I sure like my top link.
Hi Bill . Good timing on this installation of hydraulic top link . I’m getting ready too install a similar unit . There is so many things too be aware of as you have shown . Weather is just starting too get better here in Newcastle Ontario . 👍
Hello Mark! Thanks for checking in, I’ll put you on the map. I go near your town on my way to Zachary during winter months. Hope your finding relief from the heat. Stay in touch-Bill
I have a 1025r just installed my upper arm and tube bent just like yours and it didn't hit anything it was just pressure of both stiff hydraulic lines as traveling up ..it won't hurt anything it just bends at it weakest point which is tube coming from cylinder block.
Bill, you mentioned using the rear SCV for your backhoe. Can you share a pic or video of how you hook it up? I was told that wouldn’t work by my dealer so had to get the power beyond loop too.
Hello Matt, I'm so disappointed that dealerships advice varies so much. The SCV I installed works perfectly without the power beyond loop removed. I'm not a mechanic, but the systems works fine, the only change is the power beyond connecting has been removed. This new design makes connecting and disconnecting the backhoe easier. If you want to IM me, I'll send you photos and I can show you the power beyond is removed (I have the plumbing in a box) I'm not a mechanic, but I can tell you I have a switch on the console to my right after the change that energizes the rear hydraulics without needing the actual power beyond connection. Tell you what I can do, I have a video coming out next week, I'll make a video showing how well my SCV works and get it out in March. I'll also take another look in the comments, I may have posted the part number that was used to make the changes to my tractor. Again, I've had these now for a couple of years and they work perfectly. Thanks for asking the question - Bill
Todd, I believe I misunderstood your question. The ball mount is unique with the two different ball mount length. I purchased that from my local dealer, it was sitting on their shelf so I grabbed it.
Nice upgrade Bill!! I have the same top link, from the same source, great customer service is right. I did the same thing you did minus the damage ;) , I flipped the block around and it's been flawless since, had mine for a year now.
I was still able to hit my hydraulic link connections on the cross bar on my 1025r, even with the check valve flipped around. I think I’m going to get some longer hoses and turn the cylinder upside down. It only hits when I have the 3 point all the way up, top link all the way shortened, and I accidentally go down a hill that is a little too steep and the box blade hits the ground and raises a little more. I wish the 3 point had something to stop it from going up like it stops from going down. Lol
HI Bill, that reversed block looks great, as I mentioned to you, I will be doing the same thing soon, as you were showing the rear of the tractor, I notice the connections for the backhoe are missing, my tractor doesn't have a backhoe but I do have the hose connections from the power beyond to connect to something that needs hydro flow, you should check that out because the backhoe has to have its hoses connect to the tractor which is what the power beyond is for, if you need a picture of mine for comparison just messenger me and I will get it to you asap, once again another great video, have a great day.
Hello TY, another viewer told me the same thing, so I watched your video again and see what your telling me. Keep in mind this video is 7 months old and I've been using the backhoe with no issues. Just for grins I went back to my dealer Monday and he agreed the power beyond is gone, however, this design eliminated that and all I have to do is press a switch and fluid is diverted to the lower connections and provides continuous flow. Connecting and disconnecting is much easier, so I'm going to stay with this and see what happens. Wish me luck. Have you heard anymore on the front hydraulics being available yet?
Hi Bill, I have not heard of another way of connecting the hydraulics, that would be a great video to show how they changed it and if you're happy with how it works, that's all that matters, I just did a service on the 1025 and asked about the 2038's 3rd function kit, as of right now were I am, it's not out but they were going to check on it, I am going to talk with a friend at Deere to get him to check also, let you know when I have an answer, have a good day.
Great question, I took it to a local hydraulic shop and ask them to do it. It turned out perfect. I definitely know my limitations when it comes to mechanical issues. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.-Bill
The SKU number is 06004 cat 1 hydraulic top link 20 7/8 - 31 7/8. I’ve been told you can make reference to this video and they’ll recognize that. Let me know if that’s true..-Bill
The fixed end needed to be a bit longer to avoid any potential obstructions. My hydraulic top link for my tractor has the independent mounts (no pressure block or steel line from one inlet to the other). My hoses are threaded directly into the cylinder housing. My only issue is the hydraulic pressure doesn't always stay when mowing for long periods. Pressure bleeds off but is returned when a quick bump of the hydraulic lever to return to level is wanted.
Hello Andrew happy Sunday. Sounds like you have a nice set up …..glad it’s working out well for you. I’ve had pretty good luck now with this rear hydraulics since I fixed it. Take care friend.
What size is your hydraulic bar for your JD 2038r? I'm looking at doing this and wanted to make sure I ordered the right one on the website you mentioned.
Hi Shawn, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. If you purchase it from the same company, I did, tell them you have a 2038r and you want the same one that Bill Burkhart purchased. That should answer all their questions, and you’ll get the same one that I purchased. Let me know if this isn’t true. -Bill
Before I can purchase a hydraulic top link, I need to figure out how to add extra hydraulics to the rear and the extra controllers under my right hand. Where did all of that come from?
Take a look in the description about third paragraph down it has the John Deere part number and instructions listed there for your use. Hopes this is helpful.-Bill
Oh that's all really helpful. I've emailed myself both those part numbers and this video link, for when I'm ready to gather all this together and upgrade). Thanks Bill!
Hello Mike, I actually installed this last May or June, been using it ever since. For what it does, the cost seem pretty reasonable. The snow is gone here, looking for an early Spring. Stay safe.
Hello Richard…… Sorry I do not have and numbers. Please tell them you have aJD 2038 and want the same top link Bill Burkhart has. I’ve been told they recognize the name and know that product. I don’t make a commission so don’t think I’m trying to direct you that way. If that doesn’t work, I’ll go out to the shop and see what I can find. You won’t be disappointed. -Bill
Great video Bill you do a great job. I have a 2038R as well. Can you tell me the part number for that top link as I am also seeking one out for mine also. I had the dealer install two scv’s as well but my power beyond connectors are still there and function as well.
Hi Jim, give me a few days and I'll get it in the description, thanks for asking. I'm glad your Power Beyond is still in place. But mine is working well. I don't understand why methods differ so much between dealerships. Have a great Spring.
Good morning Wink, you know, I never thought about that. I imagine shorter lines may have some advantages. I'll take a closer look. Thanks for the suggestion. Have a great weekend. -Bill
Happy Spring D.S. It is not possible without the rear SCV's. However, do under stand Tractor Time with Tim has an add on accessory that will allow you to do what your asking about. Enjoy your new tractor and be safe.
Bill did you have your JD dealership replace your power beyond with the 4th and 5th rear SCVs? Also, did the level controls on your console come with the rear SCV kit? I'm configuring a new 2032R and thinking they could take the cost of the power beyond install they have listed for the backhoe and apply it to the rear SCVs installation to offset some of the cost. I'd love to know what you did to get yours done since your power beyond is gone. Thanks, Dennis from Michigan
Hello Dennis, Thanks for the question. I did have the dealership install the SCVs. That installation was above my comfort level. I've been criticized for not keeping the power beyond connection......but it's NOT required to stay on the tractor. I read the installation instructions and it never instructed the installer to reinstall or keep the power beyond connect. My SCV has been working PERFECT for several years now. The levers and the new console cover was included in the kit, it looks factory installed. No cobbling look at all. The dealer turned all the unused lines and the power beyond to me. Removing and installing the backhoe is easier with the power beyond gone. I'll be posting a new video this summer showing that feature. I think I posted the JD kit number in the description, didn't I? I agree with your plan. Let me know how it turns out. - Bill
@@billburkhart Thank you Bill for your response, I'll be talking to my dealer in the morning. I wonder if he even knows this is possible. Question: Are the backhoe hydraulic lines long enough to connect to the new SCV location?
Hi Bill. Thanks for your video. Could you please explain to me on how you dont need the power beyond for the back hoe? I had rear hydraulics before I had a backhoe. If they installed the power beyond and I didn’t need it- I will be angry with my dealership.
I used to work for a john Deere dealer and they used to run some backhoes off of the rear hydraulic ports. It's really not the right way to do it you should have a power beyond and rear hydraulics. some dealers aren't trained right to be able to run both kit in line with each other so they take a short cuts and only use one kit to do both.
Hi CDee. Sounds like I misspoke, the power beyond is still there, that single connection point is gone ...and that connection is now in that new SVC connection ....and it’s a little bit easier for me to use. Your set up is ok, sorry I should have been more clear. Have a great March
@@zacharybrown2289 Hello Zachary. The power beyond is still there....the plumbing is just different ....I miss spoke and must’ve created some confusion..... I’ll have to work on getting that clarified thanks for making me aware of that.
@@billburkhart The power beyond kit is gone and they installed 2 rear SCVs and used one with continuous flow for your backhoe. Will it work yes but not the way Deere designed it. Ask your dealer to do some research because you should have a power beyond and the 2 rear SCVs to work together in line.
Holy smokes that is close! I don't know if that's the camera angle or not. Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to check into this in the morning. I'll get back to you. -Bill
Hey Bill, love this video. I'm considering getting one of these top links for my 3032E soon, and think I'll deal with these same folks you purchased yours from. Need to get some extra rear hydraulics installed first, of course. Not that it matters a whole lot, but since I live in eastern North Carolina, I thought I'd pass along a little primer on town names in the area -- Seymour Johnson AFB is right beside Goldsboro, and Beaufort, NC is pronounced "Bow'-fǝrt", as in "bow and arrow," like a girl having a "beau." Beaufort, *South* Carolina is pronounced "Byoo'-fǝrt," as in "beauty." Why that is, I don't know, but that's the South for you.
Good morning John. You won’t believe how convenient the top link will make your life. From connecting rear Impliment’s to grading. I’ve found a few leaks on mine once in a while, simply check and re-tighten them once in a while and you’ll love it. Thanks for the pronunciation tips. I’ll work them into my shouts outs in the next video. Have a good week.
Hi, John. I'm planning to follow suit and order one for my 3039r cab. How did your project turn out? May I ask what lengths you went with? I think based on the web site, that I need the 06003 kit. Hope all went well for you. David
Hello, Happy Sunday. Not sure how to answer your question. The male connector has a firm point that push's on the female side opening the flow. Does that answer your question? You may also notice I had both my SCVs on the tractor side installed as females, my back hoe has two male connectors, so I thought that would be easier.
Which length did you go with?
Give me a few minutes I’ll look it up.
The invoice reads cat 1 hydr top link 20 7/8 - 31 7/8
Hope this is helpful-Bill

Hi from Bakersfield California.
Hello Jesse, I hope you're not in the heavy rain I'm seeing on the news. Thanks for checking in.-Bill
@billburkhart we are good thanks.
What did you do besides flip the connector arm? The “ flipped” hydraulic connector arm has no paint and looks different from the “connector” in the beginning of the video.

Hi Bill . Good timing on this installation of hydraulic top link . I’m getting ready too install a similar unit . There is so many things too be aware of as you have shown . Weather is just starting too get better here in Newcastle Ontario . 👍

Would that Hydro Top Link need to be longer if you have a Quick Hitch compared to not having one ?
Hello Buzz, I purchased a standard hydraulic top link and use it with the quick attach and I’ve never had any problems. Good question. - Bill
I have a 1025r just installed my upper arm and tube bent just like yours and it didn't hit anything it was just pressure of both stiff hydraulic lines as traveling up ..it won't hurt anything it just bends at it weakest point which is tube coming from cylinder block.
Hello Roy, happy Saturday. Sorry to hear about your bad luck, thanks for sharing your experience with me. Hope your having a nice Spring.
If you want to IM me, I'll send you photos and I can show you the power beyond is removed (I have the plumbing in a box)
I'm not a mechanic, but I can tell you I have a switch on the console to my right after the change that energizes the rear hydraulics without needing the actual power beyond connection.
Matt the kit information is included in the video description, hope this helps. - Bill
I love the power beyond and the aux scv on the back. I wish they had that setup for the 1025r
Hi Corey- I understand TTWT has a video out showing a hydraulic setup that may interest you.
@@billburkhart yes I have seen that and will probably get it just like how clean it is on yours.
Thank you Bill. Can I ask what ball hitch attachment you are using with the imatch?
HiTodd, that’s a 2 inch ball, the majority of my trailers around here require a 2 inch ball thanks for asking, have a great weekend.
Todd, I believe I misunderstood your question. The ball mount is unique with the two different ball mount length. I purchased that from my local dealer, it was sitting on their shelf so I grabbed it.
@@billburkhart that is what I was asking, is it a Deere or frontier brand or 3 rd party? Do you know the brand. Thanks again

Hi Dave, sorry to hear about the bust, I'll bet it was a mess, stay healthy friend.
Nice upgrade Bill!!
I have the same top link, from the same source, great customer service is right. I did the same thing you did minus the damage ;) , I flipped the block around and it's been flawless since, had mine for a year now.
hello-pat. i see we watch some of the same videos-ha!
Hi Elk Creek, glad you avoided the damage. You know the company sent me all the repair parts for about $50 ....I cant complain
@@billburkhart I believe it, they are a top notch company.
Lol
Sorry to hear your about your situation. Fingers crossed you find a good solution. - Bill
Hey buddy how did you flip that did you take the bolts out of the top of the cylinder? And just flip the whole thing around
Great question, I took it to a local hydraulic shop and ask them to do it. It turned out perfect. I definitely know my limitations when it comes to mechanical issues. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.-Bill
Hello from Grain Valley, Mo!
Hello there! Robert, thanks for taking time to say hello. I appreciate it.
Do you have the part # for the cylinder?
I’ll go look, stand by.
The SKU number is 06004 cat 1 hydraulic top link 20 7/8 - 31 7/8. I’ve been told you can make reference to this video and they’ll recognize that. Let me know if that’s true..-Bill
@@billburkhart thank you
What size cat 1 hydraulic top link did you get? Closed hole to hole? Open hole to hole?
Hi Earl, I'll find the paperwork and get back to you. I should have posted that information.
Earl I posted additional information under the video description, hope this helps.
Thanks Bill!
Hi Bill! Have you looked at installing a hydraulic tilt on your machine?
How long are those hoses you had made?
I had that installed, let me look up the part number and description and I’ll get back to you this weekend-Bill

Hello from San Diego
Hi Jerry, I love traveling to San Diego. Have a great Spring, what am I saying....the weather is always beautiful in your area isn't it?
Bill… why were the hydraulic hoses so long? To me a significant part of the challenge was the hose length. Would you agree?
Good morning Wink, you know, I never thought about that. I imagine shorter lines may have some advantages. I'll take a closer look.

why didnt you just remove the one bolt and then remove that bracket for the s clip???

hi there from west jordan, utah......
Hello Bill, I'll put you on my map
Hello, I have a 1025r with backhoe. Is this possible to hook this up on the 1025r and hook the hydraulic hoses to the area where the backhoe hooks up?
Happy Spring D.S. It is not possible without the rear SCV's. However, do under stand Tractor Time with Tim has an add on accessory that will allow you to do what your asking about. Enjoy your new tractor and be safe.
Randy Button from Jarrettsville, MD
Hello Randy, thanks for checking in I’ll get you on the map. Enjoy the rest of your spring weather.
Hello Dennis,
Thanks for the question.
Bill, I'm having trouble finding the part you called out above. Where did you find it and are these part numbers correct? Thanks Bill
@@mackdenn Dennis, I’ll find it today and get back to you. -Bill
Yes the lines are long enough
@@zacharybrown2289 thanks Zach I had a deere dealer install it .....I will call them tomorrow thank you

David
Puy the fittings on the underside.
Good morning Dennis, thanks for saying hello and taking time to comment. Have a great weekend.
Are the ag style connectors on the scv the ball type or the pin type?
Hello, Happy Sunday. Not sure how to answer your question. The male connector has a firm point that push's on the female side opening the flow. Does that answer your question? You may also notice I had both my SCVs on the tractor side installed as females, my back hoe has two male connectors, so I thought that would be easier.
