    This all started in Brazil 2021 when verstappen forced both Hamilton and himself off and didn’t get a penalty for it. The fia are basically saying you could be 4 or 5 car lengths back, brake much later, hit the apex first, force both of you wide and that’ll be deemed legal. Crazy

      As for this race, Norris deserved the penalty 100%.

    • @daarom3472

      having looked at the onboard extensively, this is my analysis:
      -Norris passes with DRS but has the outside line.
      -Max breaks later, hits the apex first.
      -Lando releases the breaks and is unable to make the corner even with full steering lock, him going off the track isnt evasive action but him simply not making it.
      -Max goes off the track and should get a warning for track limits.
      Even if you think Max pushed Lando wide and deserves a penalty, he should've gotten 5s with Norris 10s. It has been established at the start of the year that drivers would get 10s for leaving the track and gaining an advantage to prevent drivers from just taking the penalty and drive on.

  • @bl4xxun
    @bl4xxun 4 часа назад +10

    The problem is also, that the FIA is so lenient with lap 1 incidents. Everyone knew ahead of the race that max was going to push lando wide. it was deliberate, and not an "oopsie, my tires are still cold". Everyone who did that move after lap 1 got a penalty for that. They need to stop closing their eyes on lap 1 by default and start judging those incidents on a case by case basis.Because until they fix this, Max is going to keep doing this. We want to see clean racing, and the better driver with the better strategy win. Not a driver exploiting loopholes. They didn't even look at it, it wasn't even noted. Absolutely sickening.

    Max is so fast and I love his speed, but you can’t race him.
    If Lando would have given the position back to Max, how is he getting past if he gets driven off the track?
    You can clearly outbrake yourself on the inside to ensure you get the apex (although you will assuredly miss the apex from a turning perspective). This stuff has been going on for several years. The FIA and stewards should have policed this correctly upfront. If the car on the outside (who for years has been alongside the inside car) tries to maintain a wheel on the track and they have contact bc inside car pushes wide, who’s fault would it be for the contact? All of these factors make racing favor the inside guy. Outbrake & run wide should be what everyone does going forward. You will have divebombs from way back bc they just need to make the apex and run you wide

    • @alexandrebrito1414

      I trully believe that, had Lando given the position back, there would be argument (and quite possibily would been) for a penaly to Max. If you see the guidelines, the stewards basically did a: "ok, both are wrong, but Lando is more, so 5sec" and i believe that their rationale was "forcing someone out is +5 not giving back is +10, sooo +5 to one of them and all is good". The rule should be simple. If you are significantly alongside and you get forced off the track. The other guy gets a penalty and/or has to hand the place back. You have to leave a cars width at all times if they are significantly alongside. All racing should be done on the racing surface. Simple as that. Every other motorsport can get that right, why can't we?

    • @masterchief9201
      @masterchief9201 4 часа назад +3

      But then you create the same problem, but from the outside.
      Drivers will just dive to the outside in order to claim that car's width and force the inside car to either abandon their original racing line and/or get penalized for continuing on their original line and invariably forcing the outside car out.

    • @CompleteToast
      @CompleteToast 4 часа назад +2

      @@masterchief9201 I mean if they're alongside enough through the entire exit of the corner, *front tire alongside the sidepod at the very least*, then the move is on. None of this "its my corner" bs. You gotta be there the entire time.
      Also, forcing another car to take a worse line to overtake, is just racing. You could say the exact same thing about squeezing someone to the inside or outside of the corner. Both of you are compromising your line to try to either keep or advance your position. As long as you're both on the tracks surface, both have room and dont hit each other. It's fair game.

  • @joshkhosrofian10
    @joshkhosrofian10 5 часов назад +6

    From all the videos I've seen so far about this incident, I think this was one of the best explanations. Many people are saying that Lando didn't deserve a penalty or Max did nothing wrong, but these people are basing their arguments off emotions. How Max defended Lando yesterday was phenomenal...up until this incident. It doesn't matter if you make the apex first, you need to make the corner itself, full stop, and he didn't. But it's also Max being an experienced World Champion and being on the limit with the rules as opposed to Lando who is a great driver but suddenly finds himself as a Championship contender without much experience & racecraft compared to Max. If Lando rejoined the track after getting pushed off then he wouldn't have to worry about a penalty whereas the stewards might have looked into Verstappen and investigated his move. Lando just isn't experienced or clinical enough to compete with Max for a title, but Max himself gets away with way too many of these incidents. Tsunoda made the apex first and kept his car on track when he overtook Albon, so why was he penalized and why didn't Max receive a penalty for going off the track defending the position & pushing Lando off in the process? I think Max is no doubt a talented driver but the FIA needs to clamp down on his wheel-to-wheel combat, otherwise they are becoming more & more inconsistent and it seems like they favor Max in every scenario even if he is in the wrong (remember Brazil 2021, how he wasn't given a penalty is beyond me).

  • @pramodn9077
    @pramodn9077 4 часа назад +2

    To be honest, debates over penalties over 50/50 incidents like this is a waste of energy. People say it’s killing racing, but what makes them feel like that is frustration and stress over the need to either defend or criticise either of the drivers involved and having to go into the archives and dig up evidence to prove their case. I’m not saying no more rules and let drivers have free reign, because that would be dangerous and make the sport look foolish, but unless it’s an absolute slam dunk, plain as eye for the average F1 fan to see what is right and wrong, we should just move on. It looked like Lando did accelerate after he departed the track and to me that was more wrong than Max out breaking himself.

    These are the rules that the teams and GDPR agreed to. So it is useless to complain about it. The Stewards have to look to the key moment. The decision for both Lando and Russell to be penalised was correct as they both weren't. It has been the argued for years. But the one who is in front of the apex dictates what's going to happen. Drivers like Alonso, Verstappen, etc. Know this. You might find it cheeky, but as long as the rules stay like that, they can't complain about it.
    To me it was more worrying that McLaren stated they were ahead at the Apex, when clearly they were not. The statements from the drivers and TP's are noise. Just look at the rules.

I don't think that "too many penalties" is an issue. The problem is inconsistency, which gives the impression that drivers should venture into such moves and see if they're going to get a penalty or not. For example, Russel's move on Bottas was pretty unnecessary, he could have squeezed him without robbing him of all space and he could be still ahead, but obviously he felt that this is allowed as it has been in other instances where they only punish if there's contact. If Verstappen didn't leave this GP thinking he did nothing wrong there, maybe he wouldn't keep doing it and thus there might be less need for penalties. But then, at some point the stewards will decide that a similar move is wrong and penalize it, adding to the cycle.

The overtake was clearly deserving of a penalty, and this has been the same for years on end, it would be really unfair if it would be overruled just for the "racing". I am a Max fan, sure, but I also take it on the chin when Max did it in Austria and he was at fault. Plus, here comes into play how far are we willing to "fabricate" the Formula 1 so that we get "good racing", because once we limit all the teams and budgets ( which I think is a good change ), but then we give less successful teams less wind tunnel time and more constraints, so as to punish their success? Now, how about we remove the penalties just to favor another driver just because one guy has been really good at winning the past few years. At what point do we interfere too much with the sport just for the entertainment value? At what point are we fabricating the rules just for a "entertaining outcome"? I say keep things consistent as they have been and stop ruining the sport with this bullshit "X could bore fans".

    But Lando also just isnt the guy to Beat Max for a WDC. Hes under pressure, often fails the start and Fell for Max' tricks.
    The only guys on the track to know how to race him are Lewis and Charles. And yes I am a Leclerc fanboy but if the Ferrari keeps consistant next here he's the guy who can beat him and get his deserved title
    I watch F1 since 1999 and as a Michael Schumacher fanboy I think Verstappen is a lot like him actually. Very fast already but also ready to always Test the limits of the rules, no regrets by forcing the opponent wide and accept a Crash. Especially 90s Michael was just ruthless. You needed a calm guy like Mika to deny him some titles. Mika showed Michael quickly that his tricks And ruthless driving Style like against Hill And Villeneuve didnt Work with him and He was in Michaels head.
    And Charles to me is much more like the Mika to Max than Lando is

    Nobody cares about your feelings what is the right way to fight on track. It is about rules. And Max was smarter and outplayed Lando. With more and more rules the racing will only get worse.

    Its amazing how Schumacher and senna was well known for this style racing. They wiuld put the car in the spot. Either the other dirver lifts or they both wreck. Lando was trying it earlier this year with his famous divebombs. When lewis defends he does the same thing. Yet people act like max is only one to do this. 😂😂😂
    Lando was getting a penalty either way. As he went over track limits to many times at that point also. Why didnt lando try the cross over once? If you know max is gonna try that move, why not do the cross over?

    • @Appletank8

      While I don't agree with how late Max braked, you'd think Lando would have expected what's going to happen by now and try to fake Max out. Or do literally anything else than the same outside move for the 10th time.

    The fact that the McLaren pit wall thought that they could get away with an overtake on Max outside of the track limits just shows that McLaren don't have any semblance of race IQ, especially under pressure with championship implications. They had the pace to overtake Max after Turn 19 in the same lap and yet they didn't even bother hedging penalty risks by giving back the position to Max in a spot that would put Lando best placed for another overtake. McLaren is to blame for Lando's fumbling the 2024 championship. Lando already does enough to fold under pressure, but McLaren's strategy is simply just amateur level work for all of us to witness.

      @Hamilton8timeChampion ah yes, **reads your name** a very unbiased and clearheaded opinion. It doesn't matter what you or anyone else thinks now does it? Even if you are right, that doesn't change what I said. They could've avoided this whole situation by giving him the position and overtaking him again. They had the pace. That is what you get when you leave it to the FIA to make the call.

    • @jongcena2555
      @jongcena2555 5 часов назад

      I agree with you, it would have been the best thing to do, but I don't blame them: they expected a penality for Verstappen for forcing Lando outside of the track.
      If you penalize Russel then you have to penalize Verstappen too, it's 100% objective there aren't any interpretations.

      If Lewis had been in that car, he would have overtaken him easily.
      He did it in Jeddah, Brazil and about a few other races in 21 where Max absolutely deserved penalties.
