    This figure looks like he's awaiting freedom. His whole body and face looking towards freedom and just awaiting his shackle to be unlocked.

    Wouldn't it be "freed man."

      I don't believe so because slaves took the last names they wanted after they were freed. They felt like a "freed man" it would be Freedman. Just a guess.
