He was a hero. A warrior and a beloved person to all who know the truth that we are all only here temporarily and that sometimes freeing and defending others means more than our own lives. The truth is that our awful government actively supported slavery right up until Lincoln came in. Somebody had to use violence. Do not even dare to give me the bs response that violence is never the answer!! That is the response of thugs and cowards. The former because thugs never want their victims to fight back and the latter because they never want their own cowardice exposed by the raw courage and selflessness of others!! Violence is often the only answer to oppression!! All slave owners should have been put to the sword.

Western University in Kansas City Kansas was an all Black School that put a statue up of John Brown in 1911. Entirely funded by the community and made of Italian marble.
The school closed in the 1940s but the statue is still there.

I find it amusing that people look down on those who commit civil disobedience - even if it's for a cause that they agree with. The road to equality was never paved by being passive & following the rules. John Brown is an american hero for risking (and ultimately losing) everything he had in the fight against cruelty.
