I came here on 4 May 2020 just to watch the genius that is Dave Greenfield one last time. Fly straight with perfection Dave. You will be sorely missed. RIP
First off, great job Mel Gaynor. Solid as a rock as usual. Dave Greenfield, unbelievable keyboard player. The way he just solo'd his way through every line of every song just seemed to fit without seeming to be overplaying. Unbelievable talent and there will never be another.
@@intheshadows..2107 I'm a Strangler too. I'm also a drummer and recognize the strenghts of Mel Gaynor as a drummer. I own every Stranglers album since they were released. I was a Strangler first before being a simple mind!
Old strangler here as well , amazing video loved it I was in London working there from up north at the height of their fame in 77 sadly I was also locked up at the time 😮😁 my musical tastes are so varied loved all the punk new wave but I was also in to N Soul still am , funny old world ain’t it lol , I still have the rebel in me listening too these old bands I mean the stranglers even though I’m 66 lol
Rattus Norvegicus, No More Heroes & Black and White are still some of the best pieces of work produced during and since the Punk - New Wave era in this country! Brilliant.
What kind of "devastating" do you mean: Disastrous or dazzling? LOL, German cumment. You have too much ambiguity in English...always having to swing between words of French/Latin, Celtic + Anglo-Saxon origin. Black & White is in no way devastating, but yes, a stunning + dazzling album !
What Dave Greenfield plays, is unbelievable and completley special, hats off. A pitty I can not see him live anymore. All things must pass, could cry. Happy , saw him and the Stranglers many times. Rest in peace, see you later
Can't believe the energy coming off this . sounds like a new song . Fresh. Can't they just released this stuff the kids nowadays would be blown away. My son just can't believe the raw energy in old stranglers and other 70 s gigs . Thank God for RUclips . eventually they ll catch up
+blanca roca kid just do not appreciate what we took for granted ie. Bloody good REAL music! This mix is available on vinal via the Simple Minds shop. Worth every penny!
Rest in peace, Mr. Greenfield. One of the most influental Keyboard Players of Rock History. Saw you live many times ... hope, another time, another space 🎹✌🙋🏻♂️🍀
First time I noticed the organ part I said, "How can anyone make a sequencer do THAT? Each time through the sequence is slightly different!" I watched the video more closely and was amazed. Instant total respect.
Imagine if you are driving in your car, and you looked in your rear view mirror, and you saw that bassline coming straight for you!! What would you do?!
No fucking way! I can't believe what I have just came across. This sounds fucking amazing. Never could have imagined the 2 bands playing together. The sound is top notch.
Stranglers es como la vida, interminable, uno de mis grupos favoritos, rebeldes cuando quisieron, calmados cuando vinieron quienes les imitaron y siempre originales. De lo mejor de Reino Unido.
My all time fav Stranglers track . . was a fan of early Simple Minds too . . . .poor Jet couldn't make it but SM's drummers is awesome - get's this track 100%
That was absolutely superb. These two bands came out of the post punk New Wave and I was lucky enough to catch both in Sydney early 80s. Notice the clean/pure arpeggios from Greenfield ,no sequencing just smooth/fast fingers.10/10 from me♥️.
In tears man you floored me with your genius for over 40 years and now your gone DAVE brother you are sorely missed man the stranglers opened this whole world of new music for me in the 70s rip brothet
Dave Greenfied my hero. I had the honour tobe right at the front of one of their early concerts, Hugh Cornwall passed me his towel as I was sweating so much. Dave was a wizard nothing like him before or after him ........ Keyboards!
I was a young punk in the late seventies and saw the stranglers and the clash Etc and they were both the best live bands at the time and this is amazing
Nope, Im talking punk here, so Vicious is the Sid. I'm sure Syd Barrett is up there jamming with Steve Marriott, Frank Zappa, Peter Green and Captain Beefheart instead.
Absolute dynamite! After Hugh left, I said I wouldn't go and see The Stranglers again, but I might have to review that if they're playing at that level.
Simple minds meeting with the stranglers what a great collaboration Jim and the boys are fab as are the stranglers, much respect for the late and great dave greenfield, the combination of simple minds and the beautiful musical tapestry of daves keyboards is unsurpassed My favourite RUclips collaboration, iconic stuff
Great stuff, what a tasty collaboration with jim and the boys RIP david a real gentleman and musical giant who was such a influential figure in my musical formative years. Simple minds playing with the stranglers what a magical combo

I came here on 4 May 2020 just to watch the genius that is Dave Greenfield one last time. Fly straight with perfection Dave. You will be sorely missed. RIP
It was his keyboard playing on Hanging Around that got me into the Stranglers
Exactly the reason I ended up here. RIP Dave.
Golden Brown was originated by Dave with those Golden tones. RIP Dave your influence and contribution will be sorely missed.
Absolutely. A real legend
RIP Dave - a huge inspiration and the Stranglers Magic Ingredient, that Bass'n'Keys combo was unique
Finding this gem has made my day. Got a beer in my hand, headphones on at full blast and a stupid grin on my face. LOVE IT!
Consider this was my driving music in 70's LA. Still sounds worth annoying other drivers stuck in the traffic!
JOE BLOGGS Cheers Mate!! 🍺🍻🍺
Good on yer, Joe, doin' & feelin' the same. Uplifting song! 😉
Me too!
Same here brilliant stuff.
First off, great job Mel Gaynor. Solid as a rock as usual. Dave Greenfield, unbelievable keyboard player. The way he just solo'd his way through every line of every song just seemed to fit without seeming to be overplaying. Unbelievable talent and there will never be another.
Obviously a Simple Minds dude. As a Strangler dude, one has to confess its a stunning version of Grip

@@Genghis-Khan121 Me too, great band, although they are the only one from that era.
One of the best keyboard players in the world. Chapeau Mr. Greenfield
Dave Greenfield - rock legend. The Stranglers' best songs were all underpinned by amazing keyboard.
I watched this all through COVID Lockdown and finally got to see The Stranglers in Brighton last month. What a night!
Unbelievably good, this is over 44 years old.
Rattus Norvegicus, No More Heroes & Black and White are still some of the best pieces of work produced during and since the Punk - New Wave era in this country! Brilliant.
+Paul Cavanagh Don't forget The Raven!
+Paul Cavanagh Black & White is devastating, i've never heard more sinister music, love it all !!.

Black & White is in no way devastating, but yes, a stunning + dazzling album !
Gospel According to the Meninblack is their darkest, punkiest record.

I love this band and I'm in my 20's , I may never see them live but I know they are amazing
They were "PUNK" and punk was BLACK BALLED!!!
It's shit. You're old and they all look like Mockneys. Except for J J, who seems...embarrassed?
Yes. 'tis a gem.

Yeah, we all get older...but, it doesn’t mean that whatever inspired us when we were young has to die. Brilliant song! Love the video!
RIP Jet Black. Dave's waiting at the Bar for you buddy! Thanks to you both for just being bloody brilliant....
Respect to Dave Greenfield, RIP Sir!
Rattus Norvegicus was my favourite album when I was 21. And I still get a thrill from this song.

Greenfield’s beautiful solos flow through, above and below the music of this great song as if he were a jammer from some higher musical realm.
