Lyrics:
I’m collecting all these feelings for you
Put them in a box in a darkened room
And seal the lid with an industry standard glue
Make the box into a silent tomb
With all these photographs and pictures of you
Taken in a car and someone else’s front room
This song will get me over you
Lift me up and take me out of view
This song that says that she’ll hurt you once or twice
But she’ll never be with you the way you want her to
This song will get me over you
Take the box into uncharted seas
Far away from all humanity
And swear the crew to absolute secrecy
Sink the box down to the ocean floor
For maybe 20,000 leagues or more
And ban deep sea diving by an act of law
This song will get me over you
Lift me up and take me out of view
This song that says that she’ll hurt you once or twice
But she’ll never be with you the way you want her to
This song will get me over you
Ill trust in Davy Jones’ locker
Far from any grave robber
To steal away all the memories of you
And all the people they may wonder
That I no longer seem to bother
And I appear to be completely over you
This song will get me over you
Lift me up and take me out of view
This song that says that she’ll hurt you once or twice
But she’ll never be with you the way you want her to
This song will get me over you
Lift me up and take me out of view
This song that says that she’ll hurt you once or twice
But she’ll never be with you the way you want her to
This song will get me over you
This song will get me over you
This song will get me over you
This song will get me over you
If that’s what I really wanna do

I met Stuart Pearce in a Pub in Stapleford about 20 years ago.... We had a chat about our mutual love of the Stranglers, then I was at Rock City watching them in Notts and he came up to me and remembered our conversation... Absolutely top bloke, he is perfect in this video. Brilliant. x
Awesome. Is he a Notts lad then?
That’s what happens when you are down to earth and not caught up in bs.
I'm about a mile away from Stapleford. Spent many a formative evening in the pubs on Derby Rd in the early 90's. H+J was always a good pub. Pavillion wasn't too bad for the "New' Pub and the Chequers was handy if you were waiting for a bus to go into Nottingham (if you were really lucky and they knew you, you could get them to serve you out of the window at the bus stop) memorable night in Stabbo when England lost to Germany in 1990.....didn't stop long as it all kicked off after the final whistle.
No Mate - but he lived near there when he played forNotts Forest@@martinsmith6049
The people’s republic of stabbo 💪
This is how you age gracefully in rock but still maintain your edge without sounding dated or desperate…I’m inspired!
Absolutely, 30 years after they hit their heyday and they can still make an absolute masterpiece like this.
…or out of inspiration.
Yes indeed Sir.
Well said 👏
Jett Black was about 40 when he started the band, and between him and Vi Subversa (The Poison Girls), who was even older when she started her name, I've got plenty reason why I'm as old as I am and haven't given up on being a musician.
@JET was 35 when he met Hugh, by the time the stranglers were rgestered on 11th Sept 74 he had just turned 36..
Stuart Pearce wouldn't look out of place as a member of The Stranglers
Brilliant song
Stuart's far too scary for The Stranglers...🤣
I'm sure its him singing to
I know but ? It happens ☺️
Psycho is an hard core fan of the boys. I wish he could have introduced the boys to Brian Clough back then. That would have been pretty interesting
... or an SF sergeant major
From a scotsman....fucxing great Mr Pearce....LEGEND.
PSYCHO!
Psycho on the pitch! Psycho off the pitch. 3 Stuart Pearce, you are a Legend! One or if not the best left back the World has ever graced! Being a Forest supporter I was blessed to see this specimen of a Man play every week! This is awesome to see him in a Stranglers Video, knowing he’s a massive Stranglers fan! LEGEND!
Saw him last night talking about his life in football- brilliant.
The intro was this video merged into a load of clips in action.
@@thecavernfreehouse1816 A true Legend!
Old school songwriting, ironically refreshing.
After all these years, JJ's bass is still roaring. RIP Dave.
Never expected to find another Windir fan in a Stranglers comment section
Stranglers ... without Dave . hmmmm
@@jdsbeau1 were never the stranglers without Hugh in my book. As far as I know Dave wrote the keyboards for this. Stranglers it ain’t but it’s still a top tune.
Not bad for a classical guitarist
@@rmzxr4395 Agree with all that.
When he was England captain he used to make the team listen to the Stranglers on the way to the stadium on match days.
What a band.
Stuart Pearce for next bond!
Peace and love
A legacy from one of the best keyboard players that ever lived !
RIP DAVE GREENFIELD !
When those keys kick in at 2.03 and you remember just what a fantastic musician we had in Dave.
Wow, early stranglers sound that still feels fresh and makes you wanna grab your guitar and belt it out . Stuart Pearce makes the video complete too . Legend
Just strap on your guitar and we'll play some rock-'n'-roll
Damn, I thought I recognised him: Psycho! ;) Wonderful!
I grabbed my guitar and belted it out in Hua Hin ( Thailand) just last night. Brilliant old school Stranglers tune
@@nickporter3099 And 7 keyboards
I was just looking at this and wondering 'Is that Stuart Pearce?' Thanks for confirming.
This song starts like thunder and only gets better with the organ riff - which reminds all Stranglers fans of our loss. RIP Dave
I feel you brother
RIP Dave and RIP Jet Black now (although he didn't play on this album).
@@trevorbrown6654 Oh, that is more sad news - though at least he had a longer run than most
To be fair Jet had been in poor health for years which is why he took a back seat to the band some time ago. He made it to 84 though so a good innings on his part
The great news is that the stranglers are back with a vengeance with songs like this one. They've never lost it. Rest in peace dave. You'll never be forgotten.
I absolutely agree. "This Song" was written by Mathew Seamarks, but the Stranglers have added some lyrics and really made it their own. It's a great album.
@@belugahugh6255 It still sounds very close to the original, I don't know how The Stranglers can claim a co-written by credit.
@@belugahugh6255 it sounds identical to the original
Hi Johnny t. Trev here.
@@trevorthorpe5948 hello trev. Hope you're OK. Nice to hear from you.
Stuart Pearce doing a great job in the video. Must have been a dream come true for him. Can you believe he has seen The Stranglers over 300 times!! Superfan or what!!
But apparently never met Hugh Cornwell
Great video ,I think Stuart does it great [ miming]COOL GUY he is .👍

@@bonzobub fan of the stranglers or Stuart or both of them ,lol 😄
Dont think those guys now who they're dealing with there..
I keep coming back to this. Stuart Pearce for the next James Bond.
I reckon he would be good in a cockney underworld flick or a Bond flick as Psycho Pearce !! a 'Bricktop' like character
That's got to be the best acting performance I've ever seen from a footballer. Man deserves an Oscar!
That's no acting - Psycho IS a Strangler.
Absolutely agree 👍🏻
To be fair there’s some Oscar standard acting going on in the Premier League most weekends these days. Stuart Pearce must be appalled….😂😂😂
Buncha woosies nowadays. Cheer Stuart. Loved it!
Absolutely BRILLIANT. This must be the best single I've heard all year, or for many years.
yes i think its the best Song from Stranglers ever
Sounds alot like Hugh I think.

In some of the head on views , he has a look of Liam Neeson too.
It’s a shame this tune will never be heard on main stream radio what a tune. loving the keyboards and I will always miss your wizardry RIP
Radio? Who the fuck listens to radio?
@@sq1rlsqu4d I do! But not mainstream coz they're juvenile banal and bollocks
Hold my beer…. 😎
In France, we only listen "Always the Sun" or more rarely "Golden Brown" on radio. They are not ready to diffuse other Stranglers songs...
Dave is missing.
I have to say this is the best I've heard the stranglers sound since Hugh left, RIP Dave
Hi Petra,hope you’re okay ?
Totally agree.
Couldn't say better...
I couldn't agree more👌

Hunting the last man without a mask on Earth
Some of Dave Greenfields last work. Brilliant on keyboards as ever.
Enjoying Mr Pearce in the video too.
Stuart on the overlap brought me here...
Me 2 and they were right it's really good
Me Too! Very Good.
Over 50 years old (the band that is) and still producing songs as powerful and fresh as this.
And they're not rated as the greatest band ever.
Psycho must have felt well honoured, I know he loved the band.

That was a breath of fresh air. A surprise find on YT, but I'm definitely interested in finding out more. They have such a distinctive sound, it's nearly 50 years old, but still fresher than anything made this century. I feel quite a buzz.
The Stranglers...and their unique music and sound will remain immortal!
it is a cover
Hang on, is that Stuart Pearce?! I think we have found our next James Bond people.
Stuart Pearce looks great and is excellent in this video. What an inspired combination!
From someone who hasn't noticed The Stranglers for decades, this is a great song with fine lyric-writing, and the video is striking.
It's a cover - notably the lead singer of Disciples of Spess sounds a bit like Hugh :-

Free the hostages
There is a Genocide going on in Gaza - Rafah the only place displaced Palestinians could go to shelter is now being attacked! Israel has a history of False Flags including the USS Liberty en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Liberty_incident. Hamas take hostages to get their own prisoners released, but what happened on Oct 7th was a LIHOP operation where Israel stood down it's security let Hamas do as it pleased , then went into Kibutz with tanks firing shells and sent up an Apache attack Gunship helecopter that basically attacked all the fleeing festival participants to cause as much devastation as possible to blame Hamas and enable their criminal warfare on the displaced population of what was Palestine - these are not immigrants!!!!!!!!

Part 2 the fkers are layed out
Thank you Stranglers (both with us and not) .. This Song just appeared on my phone today when I had the most most need for it .. thank you all !
Well done Stuart Pearce. You are a natural. Great performance.
The Stranglers were the first proper band that I had ever seen, they were on doing a Tour for the British Forces out in Bosnia. They came to our Camp in Tomislavgrad in 1997, along with a four piece Dance Troop and a Comedian that started of well and then ended up a bit naff. It was the Highlight of the Tour for me. Still have photographs somewhere.
Still my favourite band of all time I was about 13 when I first heard them.. I’m 54 now so there you have it
Same. 54 also. Brother came home with no more heroes when i was 10. Changed the world i lived in completely.
Same also , you have to laugh 😂
Same here, 16 when I first heard them. Now 60. Can't pogo anymore lol, but I can still foot tap
"This song"... Is so 🇬🇧... Old school punk. I love this band .
Rip...Dave.
Hands down I swear Stuart Pearce is the best fucking James bond! Epic stranglerrs go buddy fucking go
Great idea. I would watch Bond movies if Stu was the star
Imagine the state of the Bond girls after he finished with them :)

Possibly the best music video I have ever seen in 69 years. Tough, uncompromising, powerful & pure energy.

Stuart loved punk rock, its great to see him enjoying himself promoting the stranglers.
Jesus! How did I miss this?? Great track!

Yeah man !!!! Absolutely quality 👏👏
I thought that too!!
Stuart Pearce is excellent. Silently charismatic, with a terrifying aura. He makes the song even better.
Listening it and a leather jacket grew on my back with a Mohican on top of my head...
How can leather grow on you? The hair maybe but humans don't grow leather.
Stuart Pearce sings this song btw, he was a footballer before and played for England once.
Omg...how important this band was in my growing up, I'm just realising now fifty years later..
I've followed the stranglers since 76,this is quality.stuart Pearce is amazing.
This song is not that simple, it is about certain device that stores our memories.
Superb!
Psycho absolutely outstanding, played with menace and humour, just like his football!
I'm sure for him a labour of love knowing his impeccable taste in music!
A career in acting maybe???
Excellent cover and a lovely tribute to the legend Dave Greenfield!
Bravo!!

Used to watch Stuart as a 17 year old kid playing for Wealdstone when I lived in Harrow. Probably stood next to him back then at Stranglers gigs.
Remember seeing mr pearce at the milky way munching on a burger and a beer. ..total legend...love this band...
I was going to make the throw-away remark "Bloody hell! That Stuart Pearce has let himself go!"...
...then I twigged that it *_really was_* him!

You hear that bass and you know it's JJ! Excellent song.
Great to see old guys like me, still kicking ass.
Ohhh. Nice. Very very nice. Unmistakable Stranglers. ❤️. We all know Dave will be looking down. And smiling.
Burnel's Bass is banging on this track
After all those years they are still who they are and they sound great.
If they stop touring apartheid Israel I'm back on board.
Love this song. A proper 70s/80s Stranglers sound.
Honestly, I thought it was all over when we lost Dave. Then, they come up with the strongest song and Psycho Pearce on video. Bless your cotton socks.
Fortunately Dave still played on this song before he [passed, as he did with most of the songs on the new album except like three or four.

Whee a lot of older bands sound like old men reliving glory days (and that can be nice), this still sounds like vital (and brutal) Rock & Roll :-)
Thank you for putting in words what I was feeling. Totally feel the Stranglers haven't lost their edge.
Great to hear Dave's keyboards more out front in the mix on this album , wish I could mix them even higher !!
Don't know why they seemed to recede in to the background after the Meninblack album and at live gigs too.
Four great musicians.
Watching this makes me feel a little bit of what it must have been like to be in the punk scene in the 70s & 80s. Brilliant song, brilliant video. Can we get Stuart Pearce a full-fledged movie acting career please?
proper black and white vibes. Alsao I wouldn't fancy a scrap with psycho
Great track, great acting from Mr Pearce, RIP Dave.
I'm old school Stranglers, but this is class
I remember seeing stranglers live in Edinburgh playhouse, big in America tour and I was hooked, played with a band called Mal Deutschland, totally mesmerising with greenfield s carnival like doors 60s keyboard sound and John jacques burnells pounding bass lines and Bruce lee Kung fu kicks, and even jet black keeping the drum beat within it and Cornwall s gruff yet melodic voice-4 musicians playing off each other and the sound was phenomenal
This song feels like it could be 30 years old but if it ain't broke don't fix it aye.
Wow, The Stranglers at their very best and "Psycho" in the video too! Brilliant
