Lyrics:
And if you should see Dave
Say hello
And if you should see Dave
Say hello
I was meant to meet him here
Before the great beyond
And if you should see my friend
Say hello
And if you should see my friend
Say hello
I was meant to meet him soon
In that great saloon
How does it feel to be left
In mid conversation no less
And things that should have been said
Now left as eternal regret
Eternal regret
He didn’t fear death
Because he knew death was on his rounds
But no one told him, I was waiting
With a glass at the bar
It would be nice to say hello
This is where your solo would go
If you should see Dave

"This is where your solo would go" - pure class.
Brilliant work gentlemen I shed more than 96 tears listening to that a fitting tribute to the coolest moustache in music 💙🙏🌈
Exactly what I thought - great tribute
Its brilliant, what a tribute
Amen!
Nice touch and great tribute to the OG keyboard warrior
I think the greatest wink to Dave in this, is her perfect haircut.
I thought I was the only one who noticed.
Spot on!
Great attention to detail, keyboards, shoulder bag, pilots jacket, ‘rats rally’ down in the sewer, various music clubs and the drink on the bar. Nicely done wonderful heartfelt credit to a wonderfully talented musician and composer, sadly missed. Fly straight Dave!
I don't have better words... so I keep silent.
If you see dave tell him don't bring Harry. Nice track. Proper pop music
You said it. The line, 'this is where your solo should go', choked me up a bit. Great musical eulogy.
R.i.p dave. Never forget you, you gave me the best years.
top job. great.
The Stranglers have been the soundtrack to my 57 years on the planet. Devestated when Dave left us. A heart broken lifelong fan, seen em age 14 at Southampton Gaumont and lost time how many concerts since then. Sadly missed maestro, rip guvnor of the keys. What a song, so many nods to times past, see you all in 2022 on tour.
An ace musician who gave the stranglers there signature sound. They sure did broke the mould when they made Dave. Such a creative talent. He'll be up there jamming with Keith Emerson, Jon Lord in heavens auditorium r.i.p
A lovely tribute to Mr Greenfield. Beautiful song.
Probably the greatest band thre has ever been R. I . P dave Greenfield
At 58 and having had lots of loss as many will have had at this age, I really did feel so sad at Dave’s passing. It was like losing another family member. You lot (The Stranglers) got me through some tough times when I was a teenager. Thank you, and thanks to Dave.
And that is definitely Hugh at 1.43 (middle 8) A lovely touch.
There with you,
I first listened to the Stranglers in 1982 aged 11 taping the top 40 on the BBC, European Female mesmerised me and here am again 40+ years later listening to another brilliant track to go with all those before and after. If there's a better tribute track I've not heard it. It's so poignant and immediately takes me back to where and when I first heard it and *always* leaves a tear in my eye. From 1 Dave Green to another (ish) - you & the band left a legacy that few others have come anywhere near.
RIP Dave
an amazing song. For 47 years The Stranglers have always been spot on.
Well that is bloody wonderful.
If you've ever thought you'd spotted someone in the street who'd passed....this will resonate with you
A beautiful tribute
Wonderful song
Beautiful song, lovely video... Great tribute to dear Dave. I can't believe that l cry everytime l listen to this song.
🖤💔 Fly straight Dave.
Your not on your own when you say it brings a tear believe me mate it's very far from it and they seem to have got it just right with this song. I don't believe in any afterlife but if I'm wrong then I'm sure that dave Greenfield will appreciate it too.
Whenever I hear “this is where you’re solo should go” I hear a different one in my head. It’s always Dave. What a great tribute to a great musician. We won’t forget
As a life long Stranglers fan, this if FAB, fitting and so Dave. Heart felt...
A lovely song, I'm sure he would have loved it.
Wonderful tribute! Love the line "this is where your solo would go".... perfect.
This really is a lovely song, and a fitting tribute to a musical genius. R.I.P., Mr. Greenfield!
Beautiful. That's brought a tear to the eye. RIP Dave.
RIP my friend
What a great Stranglers track, very befitting of a great musician and character.
Not only would I say hello but I would thank you Dave for making the music that defined my youth. R.I.P big man
You were always a true gent, glad to have known you. R.I.P Dave
Dave may not be seen, but he can be heard forever more and remain with us through his unique keyboard wizardry. A master of his art and an amazing human being.
very nice tribute song i didnt cry for my mum but when dave died i cryed for him i see you latter dave thank you for the music and jj and baz great job on the last album
Dave's only a song away. It would just be a shame if you end up seeing him too soon.
Iv been a stranglers fan since I was 13 am now 52 and I love the new songs I will miss Dave Greenfield alot. The video is fantastic and beautiful song.
I gave up on The Stranglers when Hugh left, but to my ears this sounds like the original line up, albeit minus a soothing piano! RIP Dave Greenfield, hope to see you in the hereafter. 🙏
I know that Hugh was so obviously a major part of The Stranglers that his leaving was hard to take, but I think they moved on well to say the least despite this.
@@iwanwilliams8762 I don't disagree when you say they moved on, and i admit to being ignorant to their post Cornwell work, but after hearing this single, and reading reviews of the new album being their best without him, i will be purchasing 'Giants' this week!
@@Katehowe3010
'Giants' is great album I reckon. It covers all of 'The Stranglers' styles from over the decades and with a bunch of new original songs.
Shoulder bag Dave. So sad. Beautiful song.
The shoulder bag is part of the symbolism?
@@ShiceSquad I understand he was never without a shoulder bag. Not sure if anyone ever knew what he kept in it - part of the mystique of the great man! I met him once and he was a lovely bloke.
@@ianpickering4020 Thanks for clarifying. I must admit, I only know Dave from the music, never heard much about his personal life, he seems to be the most reclusive Strangler, hardly ever appearing in interviews and rarely photographed on his own.
Beautiful song,Dave Greenfield RIP.❤🇬🇧
A great tribute. RIP Dave.
Years and Tears to the eye.!..Touched...
For Dave's Bithday,RIP
What better way to say goodbye. Lucky loved and people who cared.
Back in the early 1980’s I found myself standing next to Dave in a queue at Woolworths in St Ives in Cambridgeshire , I was so thrilled when he said hello to me . Years later I spent some time talking to him in his pub at Somersham , he was just the nicest man you could meet , so down to earth and ordinary , a total legend and musical genius .
Nice mate, you were lucky
I saw The Stranglers live at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge.
I had also seen them just three days earlier in Leamington but as I was going to Norfolk that Friday and saw they were in Cambridge that same evening, I stopped off then continues my journey once the gig had finished.
A real ‘rock & roll attitude’ like the Pogues singing in a pub, or in the 60s many rockers would play in pubs after a concert or between two tours (Hendrix, Clapton, Winter, etc....).
Or Hubert Félix Thiéfaine, who take some friends of me in his car and then bought them a drink in a bar.
Not like today's ‘celebrities’ who try to fart higher than their arses!
Dave at Woolworths. How good was that!
Woolies wow, yeah I remember.? 👍🆘💯🤩 NICE ONE DAVE🙏
Great song, and the video is magnificent. Beautiful way to pay respect to Dave and his legacy.
Well done JJ. What a tribute. Heartwrenching without being cheesy, and stands in its own right as a lovely song even if you don't know what it's about.
Superb songwriting from a very, very classy team.
What a luxurious farewell to a friend. I'll second that emotion.… 🥲🎹🎶🖤
Nice one guys. Fitting tribute. ‘This is where your solo would go’ - spot on.
Crying
Best band ever!!!!!!!!!!
Love love this!! It sounds like old stranglers..definitely buying their new album.
Absolutely beautiful.
REST WELL DAVE.NEVER FORGET YOU AND YOUR SPECIAL SOUND,SO WE ARE PRETTY SURE THAT WE ARE GOING TO SEE YOU AROUND ALWAYS.🥂🌷
Lay in my hospital bed listening to this over and over absolutely crying my eyes out wondering if I’ll ever be fit enough to make a last tour date. My minds 17 body’s 60. Fuck cancer and COVID. RIP big man your legend lives on !
You will ❤️🖤 stay strong
I had cancer treatment 2 years ago and I've been clear for just over a, year. The beat advice I was given is that treatment is always moving forward. Sending positive vibes and best wishes from the UK
Stay strong dude
Hope to see you at that concert!
Mark, you WILL make it dude, stay strong brother!!
Well this is gorgeous and I'm so happy I got to hear it the day it was uploaded! A year and a week ago we lost one of the best keyboard players of all time. I've been a Strangler fan since I was a young'on and my mum before me. She would of listen to them in the 70's and me in the 90's. Thank you for all the tunes Dave, Golden Brown is my favorite to play on the Ukulele! RIP Mr Greenfield.
Wow wow wow. I lived in LA/Santa Monica last 20 years until late last year and been a Stranglers fan since 1977. Saw the band last time they were here in LA at The Regent Theater. One of last things I did before leaving LA was standing by the Santa Monica pier like that and God I loved Sunset Strip. Tearjerker. Thanks Dave and thanks JJ
It’s Brighton England where Dave was from piers and all
@@stevebell532 always thought the band was from Guilford 👍
Dave born in Brighton….Jj Notting Hill..Hugh brought up in Kentish Town Jet Ilford Essex….The stranglers based in Guildford in the early days
So sad beautiful song thank you for all the years of great records and concerts i was seventeen when i first saw them I’m now sixty I’m gutted but I’m going to brixton i have to go i lost count years ago how many times I have seen the stranglers thank you for all great nights
Crap. I feel old. All my heroes are dying. This song makes me think of friends and bandmates that left the world early. But this song is beautiful, so I can shed a tear with a smile.
So, so beautiful. Well done everyone!!
Used to see the Stranglers whenever they came to Brighton in the late '70's. Great gigs. Remember, one day in Bath in '84, I was crossing the road. A van slowed down at the lights..and there they were, in a curtained transit!! I yelled to my friend, "LOOK!!! It's the Stranglers!!!" Waved like mad, and they all waved back, grinning like little boys. Sweet memory. Beautiful song. Such a brilliant live band. RIP Dave Greenfield.
Me too top rank or centre I was there
You were lucky to see them in a van
My brother bumped into them in Copenhagen before a gig
Photos with JJ
Jealous or what
Aside from the song this is a tremendous film accompaniment. Whoever you are. Kudos to you my friend.
What a brilliant tribute and brilliant song for Dave - leaves a lump in the throat, all fans miss him, a true legend and gentleman by all accounts.
What a wonderful song, So moving 👍👍😊😊👍😎
Goosebumps. Great song!
Listening to this and exactly that, goosebumps
Beautiful song...
So very cool how they created this track with ominous absence of Dave's signature synth keys. You can almost hear in your head what he might have played.
On the day that he passed, I played "Golden Brown" over and over while I raised a glass. I had one waiting for him too. A beautiful song.
Really wish I was in sunny LA right now, someone please take me there!.Think I will retire to the City of Angels some day.Only such a warm & sunny place could help me forget everything...I will return some day so you can hear me say FAREWELL( rainy England).
And if you should see another Dave say hello, never have I fallen back in love with someone TWICE before it's beyond weird!
Such a beautiful tribute! We love and miss you Dave 🖤
Bless ya Dave... gone 4 years today 😢.
I'll be raising a glass to you at the Hope & Anchor on Sunday. 💔cheers 🍻
Its a lovely song and a nice end note on a great and significant life, I look forward to seeing Dave and having a pint or three... just not too soon.
Wow...that's genuiely a brilliant song... brought so many great memories.. Dave.. I cried buckets.
First saw these guys back in 1980 and have loved them ever since . RIP Dave Greenfield .
Божечки, вы ребята ещё живы! Я обожаю вашу группу!
That quick glimpse of that Keyboard Standing Up abandoned SAD ...
A Great Great Tribute , A Great Song ... R.I.P. Dave Greenfield
Tasty Guitar Tasty Sounds Love It Hugely all of it
Love this song...what a fiitting tribute to your friend Dave...met you guys in Lisbon years ago...always been an authentic band.
This was so moving when I saw them live: when they sang “this is where your solo would go” the lights lit up the empty keyboard. Miss you Dave.
Just brilliant. Lovely clever video.
Beautiful vibes. What a great tribute to a great man.
Dave Greenfield made the Stranglers unique. Can't be replaced.
The Stranglers are so much more than individuals. If I lived forever I'd be playing Stranglers songs for ever.
If I should see Dave I'll say hello.
Love it with some great nods to the much missed Dave G.
Heartfelt tribute to Dave, stunning track
Still sadly missed. Genius
Great tribute blown away by it tbh - lump in throat!
My heart sank when I heard this last year. It was over forty years ago when I first heard the Stranglers and was mesmerised by Dave's hands on the keys. So we'll thought out and constructed yet they flew like a fan on a flywheel. Such a great talent and such a loss. A beautiful tribute to him in all ways by this timeless band whose humor I admire above all.
Awesome he would have loved it
Leaving the wonderful Dave to one side ,if we may Dave 🙏,this song is wonderful. Very British and melodic with lovely typical Stranglers details .
Then take its meaning and its a fantastic tip of the cap
the stranglers : punk, pop, basslines, always surprising : one of those everlasting bands....
Fantastic tribute to Dave.
This song
look like him .
RIP Dave. All the fans never forget you
Beautiful song and brilliant video.
Beautiful tribute. Love it but makes me feel sad too. RIP Dave.
Lovely song and a great tribute to Dave Greenfield.
Two things about this video - it's a great homage to Dave and the young lady in the video is quite frankly spectacular.
Rest in Peace Dave and Jet.
What a fitting tribute. Gorgeous song. So many familiar places having grown up in L.A.
Caly wasz zespol jest genialny i wasza tworczosc niedoceniona ... i do konca graliscie punk... wasz punk... nigdy nie zapomne jak zagraliscie na nosie MTV . Szacunek❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ pisze to człowiek z Polski i Kaszub . Zawsze u mnie w top 3
God bless Dave.
Great song, thanky you so very much
The hands that flew have flown away. So sad. RIP. A great tribute.
A fitting tribute to a fantastic keyboardist. Never forget putting on the track Duchess in the student bar years ago over and over mainly because of his mesmeric keyboard work. He was a genius. Dave RIP.
Dave Greenfield got me hooked on The Stranglers in 1985. Aural Sculpture album hit me and i had to get every album they had made till then. I was 14yrs old. And it remains the best discovery to this day
What a great song.
Beautiful track lamenting the passing Dave Greenfield, one of “the” great keyboard players. Lovely tribute.
Such a beautiful soulful tribute. So missed! I almost saw him those glimpses of THAT bag. So fitting. Much respect to all of the MIB 🖤 Rest easy Dave... see you at the bar ❣️
I am not ashamed to say i had tears in my eyes listening to this a beautiful song thank you boys RIP Dave mate you will always be remembered forever
DAVE...R.I.P. YOU MADE SUCH A HUGE IMPACT TO THE FAMOUS STRANGLERS SOUND,
R.I.P. Dave I'm glad you got to contribute eight songa into the latest album before you passed, you will be missed.
This is one of the greatest songs i have ever heard
The video footage is inspired. Everyone involved. A success from start to finish. Clearly a labour of love.
