After so many years still goosebumps. The most beautiful song of my life. Melody that comes from the future. Simple Minds was my first band that I saw live, in Italy. I'm Italian from Naples. Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Shed Seven, Supergrass .... I want to go back in time ....

💜Just reading your sentiments that echo my own.. this came onto an iTunes mix that played in a beautifully unexpectedly way, whilst I was city walking in my lunch hour today and I was transported back in time and forward too .. yes sounds like the future, even now.. Think it’s the the constancy of Jim Kerr’s deep resonating vocals.. and the soaring moments of guitar and electronic sounds .. gives a feeling of hope. Certainly uplifted me in the winter sunshine today 😀

This is indeed a beautiful song, and one of my favorites since it was released. I'm a bit older than many of the people who commented here, and I've been listening to rock music since 1963. Simple Minds are up there with the best. Don't feel bad if you didn't get to hear the music when it was new - you're helping to keep it alive now! And you'll hear wonderful new music long after I'm gone.

Every time I play this track I am taken back to my early 20s and playing it getting ready to go out to the pubs and clubs to drink and dance the night away, they were some of the happiest days of my life.

In 1983, I lived across the road from Eddy Grant. My flatmate and I loved this song and used to sing "81, 82, 83, Eddy Grant".

I'm 55 too and it reminds me of those wonderful times, although I have to say I'm also coping well with the maturity of this age. I rediscovered this song after so many years. These days I noticed that in the early 80s I had a crush on a little girl. But even these days I have a crush on another girl.... 😄

I was thinking about the same thing recently. It's weird how the gap between the 80s and the present has grown to where it's equivalent to the 40s and 80s but doesn't seem that way. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I recall the 40s as seeming distant and like another era even in the 80s (though I think there was a fair bit of 50s/60s nostalgia back then). Realizing that the 80s is to today what the 40s was to the 80s feels surreal.

+Paul Ockenden - With respect, Big Country dont come close to these guys. My teenage years were in the 80's listening to this (and others). Sounds cliched but simple Minds sound as good today as they did when I was 15. Brilliant band.

Yes. Perfectly captures that dream time of late youth; in 81 I was 18, the next few years went by in a sort of magical trance. Wouldn't change those times for anything or with anyone else's.

And agree this is their best tune ever if not the best synth tune of all time. Cant believe I only discovered it a mo ago after hearing it on the "insiders" movie
