The more and more I watch your content, the more blown away I am at the high quality of it. It baffles me to hear you talk constantly about improvements when it's already so impressive, but you keep coming up with innovative ways to improve the viewers experience. Thank you Scott for all that you do for the viewing experience. It is truly appreciated.
41:45 I know it's not what you're saying and it's great to be inspired but I hope you never get too bogged down by any comparisons between you, MDB, Jrose and any other speed/challenge/solo runners. You all have different formulas unique to your channels and I like you all for what you individually contribute to the community
I don’t get bogged down by them. But I do sometimes feel insecure about my playing abilities. Especially when I watch Gym Leader Matt, Snowy, Austin, Ike the Killer, AxewKariSora, and ZealousPawn (I’m forgetting people). They are very skilled within an extremely similar format to mine. I grew up in competitive StarCraft so that 1v1 skill comparison is just hardwired into my brain. As of late I’ve figured out how to get out of these feelings. If I look back on my play from 2 years ago, even a year ago, I see how far I’ve come. If in another year I feel the same about my play right now, then I’ll be happy. Today’s work doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to get me to tomorrow.
This is the first live episode I've watched and it's so fun. I love the detail and commentary you do. Really easy to follow while still being nerdy. Much love for such an awesome run!
I think the reason I enjoy your content so much is because you are very elaborate about everything, I think shortening down your content from where it's at right now kind of takes away from it a little bit.
Here’s the thing about making short form content from really long recordings: you have to learn to headline the important parts and communicate them clearly and briefly. It’s a skill, but after editing like 400 shiny hunting TikToks in the last year or so, a minute feels like forever. You have to identify the 5-8 most important moments and give them 10 or 20 seconds to explain them. I think you could communicate what’s good about poliwag pretty easily. You don’t need a script but you do need a bullet point outline sometimes. That line about not remembering poliwag being a monster in gen 1 is a great opener, then you explain why it good briefly, potential problems/roadblocks, final time, end with an appeal to the audience, ie what first stage Pokemon do you think would be the fastest? Nice and clean. Semi related, but you really should make a dedicated video of some kind explaining damage rounding thresholds, it keeps coming up in Jrose and MDB videos and they don’t understand it lol
i found your channel on the elemental punches abra video you did a while back, and stuck around because i found your content entertaining and somewhat educational (as much as you can call learning about bugs and glitches educational lol). happy to hear that you'll do those kind of videos later, but sad that its gonna be post ranking all 151
Venomoth Fact #27: Upon seeing the speed stats of both Poliwag and the 'Mach Speed' Pidgeot, Venomoth took the latter aside and said "Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly, but either that tadpole is waddling around at the speed of sound or you're making claims your tail feathers can't backup." This is why Pidgeot now has 101 speed instead of 91 after multiple generations of training. Lesson in life, kids. Don't BS Venomoth.
For the longest time I have considered "Speed" more as an rate of acceleration. The faster the stat, the quicker the Pokemon can accelerate. It in itself doesn't relate to their max speed. Like Pidgeot would be able to fly at Mach Speed, but it takes time for it to reach there. And it also makes sense for crit mechanism in Gen1. The faster you can accelerate, the more likely you can hit the enemy at higher force, resulting in critical hit.
You also are basically yelling at them to execute a move, how fast the pokemon can react to your order comes into play (which would explain why Alakazam is that fast due to telepathy)
Explaining DRTs, damage rounding thresholds, the badge boost glitch and the weird bide interactions certainly are cool shorts! Especially for people that dont know every single video of yours on gen 1… ahem..
Everytime Scott mentions the Drowzee livestream I know that I had a hand in getting it so many views. I think I've probably watched it like 100 times because Everytime I go to sleep watching RUclips it plays that one next for some reason lol
Scott, I didn't realize you were a musician too! One of my composition teachers told me that supposedly Stravinsky said "Good composers borrow, great composers steal," and I always thought about that when I was worried about originality. He wasn't telling me to just rip off other musicians, but addressing that worry you mentioned, of ideas not existing in a vacuum.
With respects to jrose - your stuff is obviously on a waaay higher level, both in terms of production, but also enjoyability to watch and listen to You have by far the best solo run content in the world and it ain't even close Especially now when it feels like you're going not only more gens but also backporting across gens Btw you should talk to Jimothy Cool and get on his Fridge podcast It'd be so fun to hear you two just talk about nothing, whatever and Pokémon for 2 hours
Politoed and a toad-like Poliwhirl should’ve been focused in that direction. So poliwag is a tadpole that could evolve into 2 different ones, and one became politoed and poliwhirl became the fighting type poliwrath. Poliwhirl becoming politoed, when it already has the boxing gloves makes no sence.
I think ADHD is heavily influenced by creativity capacity. I've found the ability to think outside the box varies directly with ADHD side effects. However, I've also found there are ways to channel and manipulate those ADHD tendencies and use them to your advantage to amplify your productivity. By tapping into the creative side, you can sidestep the procrastination and redirect all that chaotic energy into the tasks you actually want to complete. It obviously creates a more complex process as there's a lot of detours to avoid the usual debilitating paralysis that comes from most drab activities, but in return you get to maintain the high speeds of an ADHD brain which those that can just grind out tough tasks don't get to take advantage of. You're doing an amazing job channeling it as it stands so keep up the good work. Don't get sucked into the narrative that it's an anchor though - it's really a superpower, just needs harnessing and it gives you access to an almost infinite supply of high powered productivity energy. Love your work, keep it up man.
Thanks for the stream and entertainment, Scott! Also, congratulations on 69K... nice hope we get a special similar to the celebii and jirachi q and a's
27:26 The quote is jack of all trades, master of none, but oft times better than a master of one. It’s one of those things that reverses meanings if you say the whole line, like the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb is that actual line and everyone gets it wrong.
I'll have you know that RUclips does weirdly like your drowzee video. I'm personally responsible for a lot of views on it. I leave my youtube running long enough and it ends up on your drowzee livestream no matter what I was watching.

RE: JRose production quality. One thing JRose has that you Scott do not yet have is a custom OST for his videos. Given your background in composition I can only say I'd absolutely love to hear a Scott's Thoughts OST
Will the tier list ever be accessible to the public? It would be really cool to be able to check all of the times, maybe with filters of types, growth rates ect. It'd be also cool if it would link to their starting video.
He mentioned in a stream I watched recently that he wants to have a website with the tierlists (and some other info, can’t remember what) publicly available. No timescales on it, but it’s something he’s thinking of at any rate.
A thought, Scott, regarding the IVs: Do you run perfect IVs, or ideal IVs? Considering how you approach gen 2 hidden power, it might be accurate to say you run ideal IVs.
I run perfect IVs in gen1 and close to perfect in future gens. Ideal suggests a few more things, like 0 attack for special attackers and I don’t do that.
I'm playing through Yellow Legacy and taking time to plan out a good team, hunt for the best Pokemon, and then I remember Scott stomps the game with a single Poliwag lol
“A Jack of all trades is better than a master of none and often better than a master of one.” Lol, it’s so you don’t wind up with too many unitaskers because you have a diverse set of needs.
You mentioned finding that your voice is more bass-like in the morning. Are you aware that alcohol use affects the voice in the way you are describing as it is a voice symptom of a hangover. Also not claiming that you are, just wondered whether you are aware
You mention how not removing the evolution animation is part of the Pokémon. Wouldn't each Pokémon's name also be part of the Pokémon, and we shouldn't be giving them one character nicknames? I much prefer your live streams to your produced content. Keep up the good work.
@@bobosmith101 oh, gotcha. The best Pokemon are separated by smaller margins, whereas the Pokemon that really struggle with the game can have large separations between them. I think if you made every tier the same gap you’d have way too many Pokemon in S and A tier
I hope your health improves. Perhaps consider having other people narrate small portions of the videos so you don't have to run it so hard. For instance the initial overview of stats and moves could easily be done by someone else without sacrificing quality.
Luckily, I've had a major development this week and my voice is feeling better than it has in 2-3 years. I'm hesitant to say it will continue because I'm not sure if it's a fluke or if I've figured out the strategy to keep it working. I'll talk about it more as I get more data.
