    Thank you! ‘Watching and Waiting’ is one of my most favorites too. I first heard the music of the Moody Blues while a USArmy soldier in Vietnam 1971-72 (I know, most people when hearing this don’t understand - I survived rocket and mortar attacks, firefights, and a CH-47 crash). Their music has been a mainstay in my life ever since. And I thank the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY for it all.

      Yeah, I love the music of the Moody Blues also. I think we were in Vietnam at the same time (Chu Lai). I thank God we both got out of Vietnam alive.

      @@nbanolfkid I was 4 months in TuyHoa, 4 weeks in DaNang, 3 months in NhaTrang. I play many of the Moody songs too. My latest guitar is a Taylor 112ce. Your teaching style is excellent. Note: I’ve seen videos of Dustin Hayward where played ‘Watching and Waiting’ using two different chord progressions. But sounding the same, basically.

      Thanks for your reply. Very interesting. I was in Vietnam for 15 months in 1970-1971. I mainly play a Martin guitar today but the guitar used in my video is probably a plywood top old Alverez. I gave that guitar to the local Salvation Army. @@wlodell

    After “there’s no one here to stop you trying “ there is that small interlude. The chords are Cminor (third fret up with your thumb covering the top two strings (E & A) then same chord but lift thumb off E&A only and play open then to a D. Play Cmajor again with thumb then to G then to C. Really adds to the song!

    I agree. But first, when I pulled up this video at first glance I thought you were Mike Ditka on another business surge. But, not so.
    TMB have so many songs, and such a linegage to select from, that nailing down one is hard. However, if you stick to what actually attracted you to their music, this song best represents that feeling. I remember this one, going way back to the 60s, and how unique it was. Message music was big then, with songs about the war in Vietnam, rotten corporations and much more. TMB weren't like that. And, I think, we part of a wave of non-secular passive sounds away from the almost 'required' message stuff. TMB in the early days were sort of an extension of the American country/bluegrass hootenanny sound. Lot's of guitars and long verbal passages about love, life, the earth , children the future and what it all means. And so on.
    Hayward got beat up pretty big time in the early days by the critics in England and Europe. Most thought his music was at best strange. Others, to them it was part of a move to turn British music into 'a bunch of poofs' and not in the hard edge core sounds the Stones and others played. TMBs were at first a 'girls band'. Chicks loved them. Especially the cosmic earth friendly ones. I still think many US males found the TMBs by having been forced to listen to them by their girlfriends. But, that awareness led to many of them becoming fans over the years. However, the band did some truly bad MTV vids which should have been banned and the director arrested. Hayward continues to perform today but I think TMBs are not around. If not then at least he's still out there. He's one of the best writers, and performers in the mold of his music, there is today. More luck to him. As if he needs it.

    • @nbanolfkid
      @nbanolfkid  6 лет назад +2

      Interesting observations. Thank you. But all my male friends loved TMB. We did not know what girls listened to as we were usually girlfriendless! :-)
