  • ‘This film explains what to expect from a cardiac CT scan. It was recorded at Great Western Hospital, Swindon, but is relevant for any patient about to have a cardiac CT scan.
The production focuses on the scan procedure itself and covers:
    1. Getting prepared and consenting to the procedure
    2. Staying relaxed and being connected to the ECG monitor
    3. Having GTN spray
    4. Controlling your breathing
    5. The Scan procedure
    6. Having a contrast injection
    7. The length of time that the scan takes
    8. Coming out of the scanner and going home

I had this test today, anyone who is having doubts, or feeling anxious about this, please do not. It is a very easy, comfortable procedure and you have absolutely nothing to worry about. The hot flush sensation is very strange and a huge talking point after! Stay safe :)

I have to have this and I am terrified! The video helps but I am still very concerned about being given the beta blocker and nitroglycerin since I have a normally low heart rate… Except when I am anxious. Just don’t want my heart to stop! LOL

Just had this done today. It was exactly like this gentleman is explaining. Noooooo big deal. I am experiencing severe shortness of breath, laying down is horrible for me. My heart goes crazy and I’m so out of breath and find it very difficult to breathe. The only thing I wish.... I wish we knew what the scan said before we leave. 🥴

I had this test Done today at Vius Medical Tower( Hong Kong) , I was a bit hesitant at the beginning 😄, It all went smooth and fine afterwards, I felt some heat in my chest area after the injection but did not feel urgency for urinating ,for some reason I felt heat in my Balls😅, Im 51 Year old ( 1st degree AV heart block), and wanted this Test for Coronary Angiogram+ Calcium Test , waiting for the result hopefully will be fine.

I am going to having a heart scan with contrast dye next week and have heard that it can cause bad side effects; some of which can be even life threatening. I have been feeling rather nervous about the whole test including the worry of experiencing a serious side effect. However , after having seen your video, which is very well explained I am feeling more confident and more at ease about it. Thank you.

@boston babe Yes i was told the dye isn't needed for a cardiac CT, just a beta blocker to help slow your heart rate is all.

In the US they don't start an IV or use dye for a "check up" heart scan. It is not covered by insurance and costs the patient $50 US.

kevin morison In US we do use IV and contrast for CT heart scans, I’m heart transplant myself I’ve done theses tests at birth and they always come out positive.

To me the final hot sensation was VERY hot. He's right in that it doesn't last very long, but it felt like they really poured it to me lol.

Had one done yesterday and I agree. It was absolutely horrific, it felt like my veins had turned into lava xD Literally felt the solution travel aroudn my body, very weird and horrible experience lmao.
