    It’s not always due to heart disease. My husband had a most serious case of bladder infection & at a certain point it caused a cardiac arrest. He was revived so quickly. But now, we’re dealing with clearing the infection, getting his bladder cleaned up and the recovery of his memory & confusion.

      Hi, yes when my father would get urinary infections and hospital stay, he's dementia would always get worse. Not saying your husband has dementia. But It's a fact when they're in the hospital it seem their memory gets worse. I always hated when my dad was there for a few days, he always came home more confused. Hope this helps.

    I’d like to see an animation of what happens during a heart palpitation. I get them occasionally and I feel heavy thumping in my throat. It’s unpleasant.

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  Год назад +8

      Thanks for the request. Heart palpitations can be worrisome, but they're usually harmless. Rarely they can be a symptom of a more serious condition like Atrial Fibrillation (AFib)- a quivering or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia). I have linked our animation for AFib below.

      @healthdecide  8 дней назад

      An MI (heart attack) damages heart muscle, reducing its ability to pump efficiently, which is reflected in your LVEF (45%). This can lead to scarring and may strain other organs, like the kidneys or lungs, over time due to reduced blood flow. Follow-up care, medications, and a heart-healthy lifestyle are key to managing the effects and protecting your overall health. Consult your cardiologist for personalized advice!

    So is cardiac arrest just a term for the heart stopping, like respiratory arrest means breathing stops? Meaning a heart attack can lead to cardiac arrest, but they're not the same thing?

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  Год назад +4

      Yes- in a heart attack the blocked artery prevents blood from reaching a section of the heart and that part of the heart begins to die, but the heart does not usually stop beating during a heart attack. So you are exactly right, Heart attack can lead to (and increase the risk of) cardiac arrest, a disruption of the hearts electrical system to where it cannot pump blood effectively- but they are not the same.

      Atrial fibrillation (AFib) doesn’t typically go away on its own, though it can sometimes resolve temporarily. It’s important to work with your healthcare provider to manage the condition, as AFib can increase the risk of stroke and other complications. A rare side effect of heparin is a condition called Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia. It occurs in a very small number of patients, but it has very serious symptoms including worsening of clotting and developing new clots, which can lead to stroke, heart attack, or deep vein thrombosis. Otherwise, (and for most patients) heparin works as an anticoagulant, preventint further clotting.

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  Год назад +2

      Being mindful of cardiovascular health is incredibly important. Monitoring blood pressure, normal body weight for the individual, blood glucose, and cholesterol levels can give good basic insights into heart health. Some conditions may require more advanced or regular testing. And if you have a family history of cardiac issues, regular screenings can save lives. Proactive actions like healthy eating, regular exercise, and quitting smoking or tabacco use will positively impact your heart health. We recommend seeing your doctor to evaluate your heart health and understand and address any individual concerns.

      @@healthdecide i appreciate it thanks. starting to set in more now.. the numbness is going away.... this is gonna be rough. i was talking to him an hour or an hour and a half before it happened. he was in hospital for bronchitis complicating his copd, he also had end stage heart failure, but he was recovering well... and slated to go home within 48 hours. his heart just went haywire for a bit an stopped... it litterally just stopped. =[ my last conversation with him was an hour and a half before he died. he had to do a swallow test or something the next day for his bronchitis. i told him when he passes it i'll bring him his favorite mcdonalds. a double cheese . the nurses and doctors all said they expected him to pass it and move from ICU to a different room the next day for one or maybe 2 more nights of monitoring.. he died 90 minutes later. apparently he was just joking around with the nurses talking.. and it just happenned. breathing stoppped. heart went haywire, then heart shut down. super quick. Still hope i wake up and its a bad dream but its been days. its not fair........

    What’s the typical presentation and progression of the last one (heart failure, I think it was)? And the treatment for heart failure? Especially if it’s just not pumping as efficiently as possible and only causing mild symptoms intermittently?

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  Год назад +5

      That is a great question, while the other two conditions are often acute events, heart failure can develop slowly over time (it can also start suddenly). Symptoms may present as shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in the legs and feet, weakness, decrease in the ability to exercise, rapid weight gain from fluid, nausea, rapid/irregular heart beats. Bc (like you said) symptoms can be intermittent, sometimes the condition is diagnosed until later stages. So anyone experiencing those symptoms should get checked. Especially with chest pain, fainting or severe weakness, rapid/irregular heartbeat with shortness of breath. The causes and severity of heart failure can vary widely so treatments also vary. Sometimes lifestyle changes and treating contributing factors can reverse heart disease. Other times surgery is needed. Or a combination of medicines may be used. This is why recognizing the symptoms and being seen is so important.

  • @ssr3881
    @ssr3881 Месяц назад

    Simply put....
    HEART ATTACK, called Myocardial infarction in medical terms, happens when blood supply to a portion of heart muscle is blocked and that portion stops contracting temporarily or permanently. The effect on the patient depends on the size & location of the affected muscle from simple chest pain to death.
    HEART FAILURE , which can happen because of heart attack, heart muscle diseases, lung disease or various other causes including anaemia, means there is inadequate, weak pumping by the heart resulting in easy fatiguability and breathlessness.
    CARDIAC ARREST is a sudden stoppage of the heart which can be caused by electrocution, drowning, heart attack, certain drugs etc. If the cause is reversible, patients can recover fully with appropriate and timely treatment with CPR/drugs etc.

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  8 месяцев назад

      If you are referring to blood pressure: Normal pressure is 120/80 or lower. Your blood pressure is considered high (stage 1) if it reads 130/80. Stage 2 high blood pressure is 140/90 or higher. If you get a blood pressure reading of 180/110 or higher more than once, seek medical treatment right away. A reading this high is considered “hypertensive crisis.”

      It can be, but not always! CPR or an AED can save someone in Cardiac Arrest. Fast treatment for a Heart Attack can save a life (and angioplasty and stenting, or bypass surgeries can be very effective). People can live a long time with Heart Failure, so recognizing the symptoms can get them to a Cardiologist to determine the cause and prescribe treatment. Understanding the difference can help save lives.
