Great video. The animations are brilliant, nice work.
Just a couple of points for anyone interested:
We actually know very little about the cerebellum, even though it contains about 80% of the neurons in the brain. But a woman who was born without one was relatively normal (she could actually walk).
The folds of the brain do increase surface area, but the old logic that size/surface area is a primary driver has basically no support. For a start, the cerebellum creates much more surface area for its size and the cortex could also if this was the goal (could be much more convoluted). Secondly, we're not really limited by surface area - regions can become thicker if needed and there is a massive variation in brain size among people, despite very little correlation with any cognitive performance. One guy even had half his brain removed for epilepsy as a child and still graduated University and had an above average IQ. It's likely that we have far more than we ever need and IQ etc is mostly structure and environment driven. There seems to be a lot of evidence folds are for regional separation and specialisation and possibly to help direct propagation of travelling cortical waves. They are formed it seems from the actual structure of the nerve fibres, so in other words, they result from brain structure and don't define it (and actually some expert musicians develop a characteristic shape in the primary motor cortex where their playing hand is represented).
Still so many mysteries, it's a fascinating subject!

(I study neurolinguistics) and every time I find something new, (which happens quite often, and a lot during this video), I fall in love with God.. such a complex, stunning, amazing machine He created.. I could never accept that out of nowhere, of caos, an explosion, came out such a complex and perfect organ.. you can not create perfection and complexity out of imperfection and caos... thank you Lord, for giving us such a beautiful thing..
