Health Innovation Oxford
Добавлен 8 фев 2013
Health Innovation Oxford & Thames Valley is the new name for the Oxford Academic Health Science Network (Oxford AHSN). After ten years AHSNs became Health Innovation Networks in October 2023. The new name better reflects our collective role as ‘the innovation arm of the NHS’. Our remit remains unchanged - we continue to work with partners in the NHS, research and industry to identify, develop and spread innovation that will benefit patients, services, populations and economies.

The Future of Severe Asthma Care
The future of severe asthma care
In July 2023 the Oxford AHSN (now Health Innovation Oxford and Thames Valley) hosted ‘The Future of Severe Asthma Care’ - a national workshop for respiratory leaders. More than 100 people from across primary, secondary, tertiary care, specialised commissioning, industry partners and innovators from across England shared examples of improvements in uncontrolled and severe asthma pathways. It marked the culmination of the two-year asthma biologics programme led by the Oxford AHSN for the NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative. I have a CT scan for my heart tomorrow morning, so I was a bit scared.
I suffer badly from claustrophobia. I underwent a 37 minute MRI scan recently which was very frightening (to me) and experienced a panic attack after 20 minutes. I'm due a CT scan at the GWH hospital in a few days and can see from your video that it is a CONSIDERABLY less claustrophobic machine and a much shorter procedure. THANK YOU so very much for putting my mind to rest :-)
Thank you very much for creating this video. It's helped me relax a little about my upcoming MRI.
For anyone going for one of these I would like to share my experience. I am slightly claustrophobic and a complete coward. I mentioned this, so they showed the machine to me before they injected me. Despite my nerves, I decided I would go for it. Once the procedure started, I realised very quickly that there was absolutely nothing to worry about. Half way through I was bored, so started thinking about some comedy I had read earlier. Ended up getting the giggles. It reminded me of the first time I flew on a plane. Nervous as hell for no reason at all, then bored stiff. If you need this scan, take it, it is for your own good, and the hardest part of the scan is staying awake.
Thank you so much for posting this vid. I have a CT scan scheduled this morning & now know what to expect.
Easy test
I have got to have this procedure in the next few weeks. Thank you for the video, it helps reasure me!
Your video helped me so much. I was terrified and I had it this past Monday. I put a facecloth over my eyes so I didn't feel trapped, and they let me listen to music in the headphones. It was over so quickly and I actually started to doze off. Don't be scared people, it's fine.
Very helpful I am having this done tomorrow. So has helped me be ready. Thank you.
Had one yesterday and the contrast made me feel all warm and tingly and it was so nice!
Instead of interpreting each loud noise as a scary sound, I found myself pitching the notes of each sound that I heard…nerdy 🎵 I know but it helped. Hearing music definitely helped but more importantly, closing your eyes and being reassured throughout so you’re kept informed. Knowing you can be released quickly if you can’t cope, helps too so the pressure is taken away. Excellent description and tips from the guy in this video. 👍
Great video. Thanks for sharing. MANY blessings to you and yours in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ of NAZARETH. The name above ALL names. AMEN. 💜💜💜
Thanks for this great video. Feeling much better about my upcoming test
I recently had a similar scan in France that also involved a radioactive tracer being injected. It was to look for any possible cancer within my bones after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. However, I was allowed out of the hospital after the injection and was free to wander around town and have a coffee at a nearby cafe with my wife for about two hours before returning for the scan. A bit odd, I thought.
I had a Pet Scan in California last month. After being injected with the tracer, I only sat for fifteen minutes before being tested> Something seems odd?
I was very anxious before the scan due to not liking tight space i cant get away from but the staff at castle hill hull tuck you in you have ear plugs and then noise blocker pads the best part is the cool air thats blowing through the unit keeps you cool and a lot calmer,i use white noise to help me sleep the noise the unit makes is pretty damn good not scary or oppressive after 25 minutes you are nearly asleep i was in for a lumber scan and the angle gave an ache all the way through as on my back thats when it hurts apart from that i would say to anyone that may read this enjoy the time and its over quicker than you think i hope this will help others .
Good job bro
I got it done yesterday, wasn’t bad at all the IV liquid felt weird tho, burning and felt like I peed my pants lol
Had MRI scan 2 days ago, 30 min scan went pretty quickly tbh, felt relaxed. If you are claustrophobic then just close eyes. You will be fine.
How do you cope with the loud noise? Even with headphones, the noise from an MRI machine must be deafening. It must takes a lot of self-discipline to keep still with loud noise going on.
Thank You..I’m going for scan in two days time, this video really helped me.
Glad to work in the Churchill Hospital ❤️
Good news with MRI is with new technology scan times are reducing as time passes. More wide bore scanners are introduced. Hopefully, one day we will also have a sound free scanner, if not already out.
I was asked to hold my breath to get clear scans, holding of breath went up to 30 seconds, that was the craziest part. And also after the scan was done I had chills and I was shivering, probably due to contrast IV, so doctor gave me another injection and I was fine after 20 mins.
Invaluable information
So helpful, thank you ❤️
I HAVE HAD THREE IN MONTREAL AND THANKFULLY THEY WERE IN CANADA OR I'D BE NAILED FOR YEARS PAYING BACK THOSE THOUSANDS. I UNDERSTAND NEEDING TO BE TOTALLY RIGID BUT WHY ON EARTH DOES THIS THING HAVE TO SOUND LIKE WORLD THREE???!!!
I had this test Done today at Vius Medical Tower( Hong Kong) , I was a bit hesitant at the beginning 😄, It all went smooth and fine afterwards, I felt some heat in my chest area after the injection but did not feel urgency for urinating ,for some reason I felt heat in my Balls😅, Im 51 Year old ( 1st degree AV heart block), and wanted this Test for Coronary Angiogram+ Calcium Test , waiting for the result hopefully will be fine.
excellent mri video
Thank you very much
God bless you.
Please stay safe And stay still please.
I have had MRIs before it’s not for me but I know it’s worth it.
Excellent video! Reassuring as well as being very informative! 👍
👏👏👏👏 bravo
Thank you. Great details...
When I had the appointment for the scan I wasn't scared at all but everything changed when I got inside the machine. I didn't expect it was such a narrow space. I thought it was spacious enough but it's not so I got shocked and my heart beat increased. I felt I could get choked for breath but it wasn't so as the AC was on in the machine.
I had to wear only scrubs. I was fine until she put the face mask on me. I was anxious after the mask was locked on. I talked myself through. The music helped considerably.
Very helpful, going to keep watching prior to my appointment as helped ease my claustrophobic anxiety
How the hell do you get music in the headphones! I was told I couldn’t
Depends where you are. I was given a choice of classical pop or jazz. Some places give a choice.
Thank you , I now know what to expect, but still not sure......
Just had this done today. It was exactly like this gentleman is explaining. Noooooo big deal. I am experiencing severe shortness of breath, laying down is horrible for me. My heart goes crazy and I’m so out of breath and find it very difficult to breathe. The only thing I wish.... I wish we knew what the scan said before we leave. 🥴
Does anyone know how you can play the music of your choice?
If you can, tilt your head up and look out through the far-end hole of the scanner. It should ease any claustrophobic feelings. Also if you like techno music, you wouldn't mind the electronic sounds that much. Usually, they play music, so, instead, you can focus on it.
Music.. I have had many MRI scans at different hospitals in London and have never been offered music, just headphones to cancel out sound.
This is going to be my 2nd time having a mri scan
I been a MRI tech for 4 years! If you have high anxiety I have a few tips for you! Bring a friend or family member to come in room with you! Ask if they have music for you to listen while getting scanned, cover your eyes with a wash cloth or ask your doctor for a sedative before you schedule the test. Also ask the tech to give you a count down during the scan. Ask them to talk to you every 3 minutes. This really helps.Remember breathe normal. Pretend you are going to sleep or think about a fun time and just focus on that. Avoid caffeine. The tech will always give you a emergency call button if you have to come out. Ask if you can take a look at the machine before the scan. If this fails , look for a open mri in your area.
The 3 minute count downs from the Tech really helped me a lot plus counting the minutes to myself helped me know when the 3 mins was almost up....the Brain scan is the worst with that cage over your face....pumping that cool air through the tube makes a difference too.....best thing is to close your eyes before you go in the tube and keep them closed....
As one who is severely claustrophobic I've been able to successfully complete two scans but have a third coming up and my mind has wandered to a question I have never seen asked; In the extremely unlikely event that my technician would become incapacitated (for example faint, stroke, die) during my scan and unable move me out of the machine during a panic attack would I be able to extricate myself? In other words, are the constraints such that only a technician and not a patient would be about to unlock them?
Lovely clear presentation. Omitted a small detail which can be worrying if you haven't been warned - that the rush of warmth might be accompanied by an urgent need to urinate. It's OK, you haven't weed, and you won't. I've had a few CT scans at different hospitals, and perhaps I've been lucky but I've always been told exactly what is happening and will happen.
With that warmth sensation I had tachicardia, that's also normal. If anyone reading this is getting a CT, no need to worry!
Mine took about an hour. Despite the loud noise, I almost fell asleep multiple times and was quite relaxing to be honest..
I had this test today, anyone who is having doubts, or feeling anxious about this, please do not. It is a very easy, comfortable procedure and you have absolutely nothing to worry about. The hot flush sensation is very strange and a huge talking point after! Stay safe :)
I have to have this and I am terrified! The video helps but I am still very concerned about being given the beta blocker and nitroglycerin since I have a normally low heart rate… Except when I am anxious. Just don’t want my heart to stop! LOL
@@ecstaticlivingwmelanieschu3015 I am in same boat you are, how did it go for you? I am going to get mine done next week.
Thankyou
My gosh the heat feeling that you feel is the weirdest feeling ever. Just had one today I was happy my doctors were up for the conversation after because wow that was weird.
I had a third brain scan today. The staff were brilliant. This scan seemed longer than the two before and, I felt, it was noisier. The lady who made me comfortable put a support cushion under my legs and also some pads for my ears as well as ear plugs. She gave me an alarm to squeeze if i needed any help during the scan. It took about 30 minutes. I needed a dye injection halfway through and after that the time passed by quickly. Overall, it is not a pleasant experience because of the noise and physically you feel as if you have been on a long train journey, but it is over quite quickly.
