I have been using megadap adapter with Z8 + Sigma lenses and Sony G series. Works flawlessly . I’m shocked with the quality and turned my a7 iv into my B cam. Thanks for bringing this to people’s eyes. Keep it up.
Solid content and information. It is most definitely a GANE-CHANGER. The size of Sony lenses as well selection make it a great option even if you are a native Nikon mirrorless shooter. 2 caveats: (My personal experience) - Lens corrections don’t apply the same as native z lenses - if you leave the adapter connected with lens it will drain your battery when camera is turned off There maybe a work around with turning off IBIS or a firmware update. However all of those did not help my situation. Not did my second copy work any different. There are pros and cons to everything. At the end of the day still a great product.
Thank you. When I had my huge Z9 I tried this adapter to utilize my Sony G/GM/GM II lens collection and everything worked great but decided the camera body was too big and there was no Z8 or Z6III. Now a year plus later I’m considering the Z8 again and may sell one of my two A1 bodies. to buy it. Will look at again now. Great update. Really like the Nikon Nikkor Z 24-120mm f/4 S so may also rebuy that native lens and use Sony for everything else. Take care.
If I'm not mistaken, the Nikon Z mount is the only mount that can take Sony E mount lenses, with an adapter of course, because it is the only camera mount with a flange distance shorter than Sony's.
Great thing that you can adapt new mirrorless lenses on Nikon Z. In the past i was full on adapt old DSLR lenses on mirrorless, but you add size to the overall kit, and that is a thing with smaller lenses. With long telephoto it doesn't matter. Now with Nikon you can adapt Sony and Fuji X lenses with full AF support, and in the future L Mount and RF mount will have adapters too, surely.
I´m shooting on Nikon for years now and always was jealously looking over to Sony users. You got more lenses, cheaper lenses and you often get them earlier (Tamron 28-75 G2 for eyample). Taking the Megadap AND the Samyang 35-150 is cheaper than the Tamron for Nikon Z, so they will save me quite a few bucks and this will be my entrance to the Sony world of lenses. Big thanks to Megadap.

Brandon, I’ve been hearing bits of details about this adapter. But this inquiry of yours is by gar the most thorough and practical. Well done! I’m half way in the Nikon universe. If i could consider Sony and Sigma-for-Sony FF lenses, it opens up so many possibilities. Like, imagine some of the newer compact Sigma primes on the Nikon ZF…very exciting.
It’s not only amazing because it allows you to use Sony’s more complete lens line up, but it also allows you to use all the third party lenses that have been created for Sony E mount for many years now! Tamron 35-150 is $100 more expensive for Nikon users! 🤷♂️
Super stoked on the possibilities with this. Curious if it's weather sealed when a weather sealed sony lens is tossed on. I imagine they would say no, but with that tight seal and a weather sealed lens, it'd probably rock and roll.
I'm puzzled, how in the world this adapter works so well ? I'm seriously considering adding a new camera to my kit and the Z8 or Z6III seem amazing already but with this adapter working with all my Sony lenses, it makes even more sense to get one of these cameras
It's just a fancy step up ring to make up for the differences in mount sizes - z is biggest - plus electronics placement to allow the camera to communicate w lens. The close focus benefit is a reflection of that huge mount and small flange distance :) These cameras focus right onto the sensor, and the z system in particular uses IBIS where the sensor floats on magnets, so it can just compensate for small differences in AF between systems. We don't really Fine AF adjust anymore, for example. Sweet Video B, from another Brandon
I bought the Sony Zeiss 55mm and megadap adapter to use on my z7ll with great results, I doubt the adapter will work on my z8 without firmware update and the updates can be finicky with the megadap in my experience.
I needed this, been thinking about switching to Nikon for photo but I still prefer Sony for video and haven't because I don't want to start over. Nice to know there's a good-working adapter! Nikon Z9 here I come!
The Megadap ETZ is now it it's 3rd (ETZ21 Pro) iteration, it's not camera based, it's mount based, these adapters work on all Z mount cameras. There will be some quirks with some lens, might be the motors or the difference in how each camera system communicates with the lens. It would have been nice if the OSS system would work seamlessly on Nikon cameras however, they do not. One thing to keep in mind, you will need to ensure you keep the firmware updated and communicate with Megadap support team on issue you encounter. I have had good experience with them responding and sending them examples of issues that were later resolved in an updated firmware release. I have posted a couple of videos on my experience with the ETZ21 adapter, you will most likely pickup a couple of Z mount lens as they work as intended however, the adapter makes for a more cost effective way to get into the Nikon system, coming from Sony.
I've been shooting sony for a few years not and I'm a hybrid shooter. I've been hoping that sony would up their game and include 12bit video internally but since they don't seem to be interested or in a rush to do so I'm really considering switching to the Z6iii or Z8 and using this adapter with my e-mount lenses. For my work which is 90-95% corporate I think it will work just fine.
Hoping to try the 35-150 on nikon. Adapting sony lenses will be great because i can own all sony lenses and if sony is needed for a project i can rent all sonys using the same lenses.
@@danieldavis6316 that’s because mirrors-less cameras themselves are relatively new. The Nikon Z6 came out in 2018 and by 2019 Tech-Art had released an adapter that could allow you to mount Sony lenses on a Nikon. I would know as I was one of the first people to make a video about it 👌🏾

Hi I'm a Sony user and want to try the Z8. However, most of my Sony lenses are Tamron and Sigma. A few queries: Will it work as well for third-party Sony lenses? How about the frame rate? Any issues if shooting at 20fps? or 30fps? does the AF and AE work? or does it even shoot at that frame rate?
Using ETZ21Pro with Tamron 17-70 F2.8 on Nikon Z50 as a permanent walkaround lens. Performance? Better than FTZ II with F-mount lenses. Only flaw I see is battery drain - I can take about 10% less shots with Tamron VR lenses compared to native Z-mount 16-50 kit. Probably it's because of Tamron lens size. And yes - this adapter perfectly works with many E-mount lenses, even with Samyang AF.
For what I’ve heard the only flaw is that there aren’t any in camera lens corrections, and Sony designed the lenses with that in mind. Did you find any issues just as focus breathing or exposure changes when zooming?
Which also begs the question: Would they manage to squeeze in an internal ND for the Z-mount? If not, that could add some complications to RED cameras as they migrate from RF to Z.
Love our 2 z8’s! We just switched over from sony A1 and A7RV. Main reason for switching was for the super telephoto lenses like the 600mm pf and 800mm pf. I think the Z8 autofocus is just as good if not better than the sony.

The adapter works great in video, but VERY POOR in Photo! So be careful, against a moving subject its c-af is ATROCIOUS (Maybe 1 or 2 images out of 10 in focus with someone slowly walking towards camera!)
