According to the Megadap manual, you should be removing the lens from the adapter first, rather than removing both the lens and the adapter from the camera at once. From the manual: "If users wish to use multiple E-mount lenses with ETZ21 Pro, when changing lenses, please turn off the camera and then remove ONLY the E-mount lenses originally being mounted on the camera. Removing both the lens and adapter may cause adapter malfunctions."
My Sigma 35 mm Art lens unexpectedly did not function. However I tested the Sigma 24-70 mm f2.8 at a local camera shop and it did very well. My Tamron 20-40mm f2.8 is now attached to my Nikon ZF. The very good SE 40 mm f2 will have to stay in the dry box for the mean time.

Just got mine today and my Tamron 20-40 17-28 28-75 70-180 and the 24 mm function like they do with my Sony a7IV and my a7C2. Zeiss FE 55mm 1.8 did well likewise the E 18-105 mm f4.
Well, when it works, it actually works well. I bought a Viltrox APS-C lens and despite assurances of compatibility since the last upgrade, it doesn't work. There has been no response from support to my query about this either. My Tamron 17-70 2.8 also only works to a limited extent. Depending on the firmware version, it either drains the battery when the camera is switched off or the VR does not work. I have tried both on the Z fc and on the Z f.

You don't specifically mention it so I have to ask whether the optical stabilization used in some E-mount lenses will survive the adaptor, especially on the Z-mount APS-C models, none of which have IBIS? There are too few Nikon stabilized lenses, unfortunately.
Lens IS will continue to work independently unless you switch it off on the lens. With the case of Zf, which as IBIS, you can only use it on its own but not both together if that makes sense.

The 50 1.8S is posibly the best lens i have ever used. Missing out on that to go with that drab sony .. if you add the price of the adapter it s the samy money. What i m interested in is the 35 1.4GN, 50 1,4 GM adapted, not that pedestrian 1.8 Also, you can buy an FTZ and use the, ahem, nikon 50 1.4G or 58 1.4G :D
Of course. The adapter is only a layer that allows me to get other Sony E mount lenses that I like. I personally fancy the Sony Zeiss 50mm 1.4 and the 35mm Distagon 1.4. I used these optics in my Leica M and liked the look of them. FTZ adaptor is chunky though.

If you add Sigma MC11 adapter on top of this adapter, you can adapt Canon EF lenses on Nikon z. The question I have is how good is the autofocus when you combine both adapters together?
So now you can adapt near everything on a Nikon Z camera: - Nikon F to Nikon Z - Canon EF to Nikon Z - Sony E to Nikon Z - Fuji FX to Nikon Z (Boryoza AF adapter)
@@amermeleitor unfortunately no, but there actually quite a few unique lenses for mirco four thirds that don't have autofocus anyway, like the SLR Magic 25mm T0.95 or the Voigtlander 29mm f/0.8 for example. However DJI just released a system that uses AI recognition to give any camera lens not just autofocus, but autofocus that's arguably better than any camera on the market by massive margin too. If you're interested, check out the "Media Division" as they just did an in depth guide on how it works. They've also made a video on how they used an old Large Format photo lens to shoot video at f0.3! Highly recommend.

I’m considering buying the new Sony G FE 70-200/4 macro lens because Nikon doesn’t have an equivalent lens that has half-macro capability. However, it is quite pricey and I’m a bit hesitant to buy it to use solely on an adaptor which may fail after extended use. I’m going to have to give it further thought.
some says thet many lenses have problem with IS or VS... it doesnt work well or at all. Also, they say that you cant used any function buttons on lenses that have them. Finally you dont have image coorection on Lightroom etc... thats a big problem with wide angle especially. Too many compromises.
A point to note, thanks. I don't have any Sony lenses with IS so I can't confirm how well it will work with the ZF, but the IBIS should, in theory continue to work, it's either or situation and not both. I am not sure about function buttons but I can confirm that image correction works in Lightroom.

But Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 is a crap. Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S two level higher in quality. Sony E-mount system has a lot of better lenses to adapt that 50mm f/1.8 like as ZEISS, SIGMA ART, SAMYANNG lenses.

I have a problem, I got this ETZ21 pro mount Sony 28-70mm on Zf , its image is much much worst shows image disortion, finally I sold out. much more disapointed.
It’s not the adapter, Nikon won’t have a lens profile for your Sony. You need to correct them in post. This shows what your Sony actually looks like without profiles.
@@sonnycook6485 Some RAW processing softwares actually have lens profiles that you can use. Adobe Lightroom Classic has Sony lens profile that you can applied to the photos and corrects distortions and vignettes. In the case there's no profiles, you can do this manually by adjusting distortion and vignette compensations to one image and batch apply to the rest of the images so they are all corrected.
They have troubles with ETZ21 Pro. First the Sony PZ 16-35/4 was broken, which worked before, finally they released v1.34 firmware to fix that. Now Tamron 28-200 is broken, practically can't focus. It also worked before. Even with lenses that reasonably fast focusing, the focus misses are too common. Megadap is such a flaky adapter, you never know if anything will work.

It’ll can’t happen. The RF mount is too far from the sensor and there’s no space to adapt… it’s only because the Nikon flange distance is so short that this adapter is possible.
RAW software uses lens profile to correct the lens, that is the case in Lightroom and Adobe Camera RAW. DxO is different, I need to try it to confirm, because it reads the camera and the lens as a 'combination'. I will come back to you with this once I try it on my DxO PL6
I hear (and I wouldn't know) that Sony lenses on Sony cameras (like all lenses on all bodies of the same maker) rely a fair bit on computational photography to get their images `just so', you know to correct for vignetting, distortion etc. Would this play nice on a Nikon body or would these lens `flaws' if there are any, show up on a Nikon body? Is this even a `thing?'
At least for the couple of lenses I tried, Lightroom recognised them and applied lens profile for corrections. Of course this won't be done in camera like Sony but you can certainly correct them in post. So far, I don't see any problem with it.
Hello Jimmy, I just got a Megadap ETZ21 PRO and a Sony 24mm f2.8 G ,E mount lens for my Nikon ZF, I also tried the lens and adapter on a Zfc with the same results. The Zf has the original 1.0 firmware When I installed the lens and adapter on both cameras I can see through the camera at what I am trying to photograph but the camera screen doesn't register the f stop that lens is set at and the camera shows manual focus even though the camera is set at continuous or single shot focus. Does the firmware have to be updated to use the Sony lens and adapter. A native Z mount lens works fine
Yes. Go to Megadap website to update firmware of the adaptor, you just need to attach it with the lens and mount it on Zf and load the firmware directly. I've done mine. Your adaptor may have an old firmware. Try that first to see if it makes a difference. The latest firmware is 1.34, released two weeks ago. megadap.net/etz21-pro-firmware/

I have a Z50 (no ibis) . The VC on my Tamron 70-180 works 'through' the Megadapt.

That is the great of the Z-mount. Nikon Z-munt has a very small flange range making it able to adapt all formats.

It focuses fine to infinity. The adaptor works with the difference in flange distance between Nikon and Sony camera, that one millimetre.

No unfortunately. Nikon F mount won't work with any mirrorless lenses because of the shallow flange distance on new bodies.
So Sony E mount can be adapted, with AF, but not Nikon AF-D lenses. 😢

Your adaptor may have an old firmware. Try that first to see if it makes a difference. The latest firmware is 1.34, released two weeks ago. megadap.net/etz21-pro-firmware/

I'm so torn between these two companies. I have the Sonys. The Sony that wants me to love them more and the Nikon that wants me to love them, too. I guess I'll wait till the A1ii, R5ii and maybe the Z9ii are released.
