Airfryer Bread: Out of Date Sourdough Bread Mix

  • Was feeling under the weather and it was the half term week which meant kids were under my feet - no only joking - the boys are great, I love having them home 24/7. But it did mean that I went through my cupboards and discovered an out of date sourdough bread mix packet and I thought oooo why not give this a go. I've bought shop bought sourdough bread on the Lidl app free bakery item once and liked it, that loaf cost £1.79 so this £1 bread mix wasn't going to waste! Results were mixed with the end result, I used the Cosori dual blaze and the Ninja AF451 to cook these, they both were exactly the same in terms of baking, taste was ok but texture was close to being rubbery almost. Possibly my kneading technique!
    Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching..

    Totally impressed you zeroed in on 170 for 15 mins before flipping on your first loaf. It took me forever to discover this as the best setting for my Cosori. Found I can overcome loaves being chewy with longer proof time (however long it takes to double) l also cheat in the winter by adding a tad more yeast as the inside of my stone cottage and fridge compete to see who can get to the lowest temperature. Don’t give up Kerry, with a few loaves and a couple of learned tricks you’ll be making much better bread than you can buy. Again, love your show.

    It looks ok Kerry and ive used out of date bread mix in my Bread machine a always turns out ok. I eat a lot of sour dough bread and its texture is different to normal sandwich bread. we tend to toast ours and put patie on it or great toasted and used for dunking in thick home-made soup. Great video think next time I will try baking it in the Air fryer . xx

    I did loads of Sour dough during lock down, and it was hard work, 😂 getting you starter going is the hardest part, I think I used special strong seeded flour and started with pineapple juice stirred in. Then you have to feed it, with equal parts flour and water, and get it really lively about a good 10 days, then work out the hours it takes to get to the top of your jar, then you always bake your bread as the starter is rising. But now we are free from being confined it’s easier to buy Lidls sourdough how authentic it is I don’t know. I do love the taste of it though and always my choice would be sourdough if a cafe has it.

    Hi Kerry another amazing video. I think sourdough bread is a bit more chewier than normal. It did look nice. Talking about out of date stuff, we had a lemon tart for supper last night, I'd bought it from Lidl, I had no elmlea cream to go with it but I had a tin of thick cream in the cupboard, years ago i called it sterilised cream, now it's called thick cream. When I checked the date it was two years out of date. With it being cream I didn't dare use it. And also the lemon tart was awful. Usually Lidl sweets are nice

    • @budgetcookinguk

    @sandrawestley4193 Год назад

    It’s nice and crunchy by the sounds of it, looks nice bread, it might have risen more if the packet was in date 😂 as the yeast would be more lively. It does have a chewy consistency, I don’t think the date would affect it much, it does have a sour taste, I always like it toasted, and it is better toasted.

    @wildthing6668813 Год назад

    I used to use butter when I first started making my own bread but back then it was about £1 for 250g, I now use Lidl's cheapest margarine. I make bread from scratch using bread flour, margarine, salt, sugar, milk powder and yeast. I use the air fryer to prove the mixture and make seven buns from the mixture. I don't go by measurements for anything except the flour and water, 500g and 320ml, I just throw it in and mix it. After its proved I do two batches in the air fryer for 18 minutes and turn the buns over after 14 minutes so the bottoms are cooked, the first time I made then I didn't turn them over and the bottoms weren't cooked properly, I had to put them in again and found that 4 minutes was enough time for the bottoms to be cooked, I also found that 160 degrees was the temperature that was high enough to get the perfect buns.
