Airfryer Bread: Out of Date Sourdough Bread Mix

- Was feeling under the weather and it was the half term week which meant kids were under my feet - no only joking - the boys are great, I love having them home 24/7. But it did mean that I went through my cupboards and discovered an out of date sourdough bread mix packet and I thought oooo why not give this a go. I've bought shop bought sourdough bread on the Lidl app free bakery item once and liked it, that loaf cost £1.79 so this £1 bread mix wasn't going to waste! Results were mixed with the end result, I used the Cosori dual blaze and the Ninja AF451 to cook these, they both were exactly the same in terms of baking, taste was ok but texture was close to being rubbery almost. Possibly my kneading technique!
Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching..

This was the video I needed thanks so much! My oven broke and have been learning how to make sourdough and the starters.
So I’m going to try my starter and sourdough today in my Corsori today. Thanks again. You’ve got another subscriber. Great video.
Thank you for watching and subbing!👋😃💕
Kerry you amaze . I love how you will try everything in your airfryer I have a lot more confidence using my Ninja 400 since finding your channel. I am still happily making your lemon drizzle , and coffee and walnut cakes, so a huge thank you.
Oh that's so lovely Karen it really is🥰🥰🥰
Baby, I love the way your learning as you go along,I’m new to air frying too and I watch anything and everything I can on it,but nothing beats learning from your own experience.I’m loving your channel and recipes too.keep up the great work 👍😃💕
It's brilliant to see the things you cook, I have loved trying the cakes you make.
Oh thank you Deb🥰🥰🥰
I love how you wing it.. I think you’re great!
Oh thank you Tania☺️💕💕
Totally impressed you zeroed in on 170 for 15 mins before flipping on your first loaf. It took me forever to discover this as the best setting for my Cosori. Found I can overcome loaves being chewy with longer proof time (however long it takes to double) l also cheat in the winter by adding a tad more yeast as the inside of my stone cottage and fridge compete to see who can get to the lowest temperature. Don’t give up Kerry, with a few loaves and a couple of learned tricks you’ll be making much better bread than you can buy. Again, love your show.
Oh thanks Stuart😀👍increasing proving time whatever the recipe says, is a good tip thank you. It's so worth it to keep trying, will carry on baking bread!!💪😀💕and will crack that sourdough nut
You’ve inspired me to make bread, yum yum x
It looks ok Kerry and ive used out of date bread mix in my Bread machine a always turns out ok. I eat a lot of sour dough bread and its texture is different to normal sandwich bread. we tend to toast ours and put patie on it or great toasted and used for dunking in thick home-made soup. Great video think next time I will try baking it in the Air fryer . xx
Good girl for doing bread. Sour dough isn’t for everyone and it is chewy. Good for u not wasting. Good job! ❤
Thank you Lisa!💕💕will try again but not with one of those packet mixes
Another good video Kerry, thank you. John Kirkwood does a sour dough recipe from scratch, not in the air fryer though, worth a look though.
I like john kirkwood a lot, lovely voice and he gave me the shower cap idea, will def take a look thank you
Hi Kerry, yet again, another great video. I've made lots of sourdough, and if you want a simple step by step guide, follow Bake with Jack. He's brilliant, and his sourdough recipe and method are so easy to follow. Good luck if you decide to give it a go 😊
Oh thanks Katrina😀👍 a few have mentioned him - will def have a good watch
Hi. I make my own starter within 8 days, and no discard😊. It's really simple every day you whisk a tablespoon of water+flour into a jar. Do this every day and you're ready after 8 days. Keep the jar in a place around 25 degrees.
LOL - I found a Maggi pork gravy mix which was best before some time in 2018, had it on Monday and it was fine 😂
Ah that's fab😄👍anything dry you're generally safe with
Is it pronounced: mag-eee or Maggy?
I will try and do a price breakdown from New Zealand vs UK from one of your posts soon. Have a great day. Madge-ee?
Looks nice
i love this channel as you tell howb iti hi kerry, i make my own bread and also butter , but some days the bread is not as good as others, so your bread was alright and i know you will use it up . toasted home made bread is great , and makes a awesome toasty sandwich in the airfrier. so it wont be wasted, you tell it as it is so your channel is truely down to earth , looking forward to your next one.
Oh thank you Grace, that's so lovely of you to say so 🥰🥰 you're right toasted was actually very nice, will def have another go, maybe not with a ready mix pack thou😄👍
Hi kerry, taking the bull by the horns again, well done. My first bread could have been used as door-stops😂❤❤
Haha I could def have knocked someone out with mine Trish😂🥰
I bake sourdough bread all the time and have used "bake with Jack" tutorial to make my starter. Good luck. Petra (Tony's wife)
Oh fab thank you Petra💕, I reckon between bake with jack and john Kirkwood, I should crack this sourdough nut!
I did loads of Sour dough during lock down, and it was hard work, 😂 getting you starter going is the hardest part, I think I used special strong seeded flour and started with pineapple juice stirred in. Then you have to feed it, with equal parts flour and water, and get it really lively about a good 10 days, then work out the hours it takes to get to the top of your jar, then you always bake your bread as the starter is rising. But now we are free from being confined it’s easier to buy Lidls sourdough how authentic it is I don’t know. I do love the taste of it though and always my choice would be sourdough if a cafe has it.
Thanks Sandra, phewie it sounds like hard work😅 I like the lidl one althou only got it via the free bakery item on the app, saving me £1.79!
It's amazing what you can find in the back of the cupboard. It wasn't too bad Kerry seeing it was out of date. Bung some cheese on it and toast it. Cheese makes everything taste better.
Oh yes - Julie, you're so right🧀😋😋😋💕
I think sourdough is better toasted the texture is much denser than normal bread ,I loved the look on your face when you were doing the taste test 😂
😂that made me laugh Jennifer, I didn't realise it was so chewy and wasn't sure if it was me or the bread!
You just can't beat fresh baked bread.
You cannot Steve, so true😀👍
Hi Kerry another amazing video. I think sourdough bread is a bit more chewier than normal. It did look nice. Talking about out of date stuff, we had a lemon tart for supper last night, I'd bought it from Lidl, I had no elmlea cream to go with it but I had a tin of thick cream in the cupboard, years ago i called it sterilised cream, now it's called thick cream. When I checked the date it was two years out of date. With it being cream I didn't dare use it. And also the lemon tart was awful. Usually Lidl sweets are nice
Oh no Sandra I'm sorry you had a lemon tart fail! How could lidl go wrong with that jeezo. It's annoying when you've paid up for a tasty promise, then it doesn't deliver
Yum
Sourdough is a more dense, and chewy bread, looked good to me xx
Thank you Jaqueline! I def could have knocked someone out with it😂
It Really did look nice Kerry, but if you're not overly impressed, lightly toast it. Butter and jam on. Perfect 😋😋x
Thank you Janis💕you're right, lightly toasting it actually helped it be a lot more palatable😄👍
Great video Kerry, there are a few good RUclips videos on bread making if you are interested as fresh baked is best. Good luck
I like john kirkwood and Pru mentioned bake with jack, worth extra study!😄👍💕
How much is a kinga.....and corzi..... please
If u turn loaf after first 15 mins & knock bottom. Of loaf if it sounds hollow ìts done.
It’s nice and crunchy by the sounds of it, looks nice bread, it might have risen more if the packet was in date 😂 as the yeast would be more lively. It does have a chewy consistency, I don’t think the date would affect it much, it does have a sour taste, I always like it toasted, and it is better toasted.
I used to use butter when I first started making my own bread but back then it was about £1 for 250g, I now use Lidl's cheapest margarine. I make bread from scratch using bread flour, margarine, salt, sugar, milk powder and yeast. I use the air fryer to prove the mixture and make seven buns from the mixture. I don't go by measurements for anything except the flour and water, 500g and 320ml, I just throw it in and mix it. After its proved I do two batches in the air fryer for 18 minutes and turn the buns over after 14 minutes so the bottoms are cooked, the first time I made then I didn't turn them over and the bottoms weren't cooked properly, I had to put them in again and found that 4 minutes was enough time for the bottoms to be cooked, I also found that 160 degrees was the temperature that was high enough to get the perfect buns.
I'm impressed Mr T, I've screenshot your buns method and will give it a go. Like you I use the cheapest lidl marg, butter just too expensive. Does the job with cakes etc👌👌
Hi Kerry
Hi Jennifer!👋😀💕
Hi just to let you know sour dough has a sour taste normally not the same dough texture as bread it is a personal choice a little like marmite lol. I am loving your plot videos you work so hard on here and on your other channel Thank you so much. X
Aww thank you so much Susan💕 I wasn't too sure about the taste and texture of this bread mix but worth a try lol
Thanks so much for your company..your a star Hun..💐💕
@@janw1746 thank you Jan☺️💕
Sour dough i thing you mix vinegar with milk
Proper butter
Defo!😋👍💕
Hi Kerry try john Kirkwood he shows you how to do it and he sells starter kits he shows you how to make hone made butter which I have done it's so tasty and so easy to do
Thank you Big Steve!😀👍💕 I like john Kirkwood, will def check his sourdough recipe out and look into buying a starter kit!
Authentic sourdough consists of a sourdough starter which is made from just flour & water.
Then it’s just flour, water & salt.
So I don’t know where butter or Marge comes into it.
Along with all the other ingredients that I thought I read briefly when you showed the pack.
Daft recipe me thinks Elaine, I'd no idea re sourdough recipe rules lol 😀👍💕
Kerry sour dough does have a different flavour to ordinary bread dian
Never had sourdough or sour bread I’m a bit stilted with my food one day I will get a tad more adventurous 😂 looks ok tbh and chewy would be ok so maybe I will
Nor had I Chris til I bought one from lidl a few weeks ago, well not technically bought as it was a free bakery item via the app and was the most expensive thing in their bakery aisle😄
Sour dough is quite chewy
It is which I didnt realise but am going to def try again with a proper recipe😀👍
Toasted with mushrooms on top
Sourdough is a bit rubbery, 😊
Tis Jean, I didn't realise lol😄🥴💕
Sourdough bread is chewy. I gave up making it for that reason.
Not sure on the chewy bit either Philip, might stick to regular homemade bread😄👍
I like sour dough toasted
Ended up toasting ours, very nice!😋😋
I've never tasted sourdough bread never fancied it hubby said his mum made it all the time for his dad it was the only bread he would eat
I'm still not sure Jean, need to have another go not using a bread mix packet. Bought a shop one once and that was nice, it'll be good to crack the sourdough nut at home thou😄
Please don’t feed the ducks with that they’ll sink 🤭🤭🤭🇬🇧
😂
Sourdough as its own taste, toast it with some cheese on.
Oooo cheese, great idea thanks Lois😀👍💕
Why did you do on fast speed . That was a shame, As it would have been nice to listen to at normal speed. Only my opinion. Bread looked good. Thank you for sharing,xx
Aww Karen, if the vid is too long - have to find ways to shorten it and thats one of them 😀👍
@@budgetcookinguk no probs I thought it was my iPad gone loopy hehe. I couldn’t make it stop. To be honest I had fell asleep watching it and it had fallen in my face, hence I thought I had knocked something. Hehr
If I ate that my stomach would hate me ! Like pizza bases just the same effect don't even go there !
Oh that's a pain Carole, do you have to avoid gluten? 💕💕
@@budgetcookinguk I'm actually wondering as I am more into stir frys now and all is better lol so I may avoid doughy stuff. I don't eat much bread if any now it Just bloats you its fairly awful stuff I live on pasta for lunches way better but all that other stuff no thanx 😕
Sourdough doesn’t need all that kneading 😖
Followed the specific recipe Anne, it said knead for 20 mins🤷♀️😀
Boring haha but needs must
If ever you have another out of date packet of bread mix, just add a extra 7oz of instant dried yeast and a teaspoon of dough improver, you will have great results.
That's such a great idea thank you Dave😀👍 why didn't I think of that!😂
Wouldn't worry about it being out of date I eat stuff out of date never dies me any harm if you check google it comes up with a list of things you can still use
