I was searching Chris's video for this song, which brought me to his studio version,which brought me to Levines version(Maroon5),which was surprisingly good.

What’s the tuning on this? Drop D? Just found your work, I’m a huge fan!
I believe it was FFCCCF, but I was probably tuned half a step down. Totally unusual tuning which creates a very eerie sound, almost unison but not quite. Thank you for listening, album coming out 21st of June. All the best to you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Bro, Thanks a lot for the comments!! The guitar is in E flat. The real deal would be to use open tuning (that’s what the Stones used), but for practical reasons I stayed in E flat and since I didn’t have a band with me, I slowed it down 😉😉😉

Glad you enjoyed it! Guitar chain: Martin DSS15 “Streetmaster” direct into a Soundcraft 1600 analog desk>DAW>La2A compressor>Reverb. Vocal Chain: Shure SM58>Soundcraft 1600 analog desk>DAW>CLA76 compressor>Reverb. I’m using also a tiny bit of compression on the master bus (API 2500 plug in). Vocals are in the center, acoustic guitar slightly panned left and reverbs to the right. The idea is to make it sound “live” and natural. Some of the guitar are bleeding into the vocal mic and that adds to the live effect. The DAW is Logic. I hope this helps! Don’t hesitate if you have any other questions. LS

Actually it's pretty close to what I am trying right now, although I still haven't find a way to use reverb plugins during that live recording with the analog mixer ( latency and phase issues)...so I have to use outboard gear to put some reverb and compression on my headphones for the vocals. So, it would be really great to see\ hear exactly how you use the plugins in combination with the soundcraft mixer during the recording session. Thanks again
@@helgefaccini1488 Hey man, no probs. Let me give you little more insight on how i recorded this: First of all, I make sure the setup is comfortable i.e the position of the microphones with regards to where i sit, How I play guitar and sing: The more comfortable, the better-I know it's obvious, but important. Secondly, I set up the same way I would if I was going to play live at a small club: I have to be able to hear the guitar's natural sound. This essentially means that I am not using headphones or click, or any other distractions. It's pretty much: hit the record button on the DAW, hit the record button on the camera, sit down and play. Therefore, there is no reverb used while tracking the song, it is only added while mixing. Third task: Mixing. Once I have tracked the acoustic guitar and the vocals, I do this: 1.I Listen to the track to see if I like it. 2. If I'm satisfied, I do a rough "balancing" to try and make the sound more "live", for example panning the guitar left and adding some reverb on the right hand side (there's the Reverb!)-Vocals stay in the center. Once that's done, I will check the compression level on the voice (that is of course dependent on the song itself, I mostly look at the difference between parts that are sang at low volume, and parts with more intensity)-I apply compression accordingly. Finally, I may add some compression on the mix bus to add some glue, again depending on taste. Now, you were specifically asking about the Reverb. Here are the settings I've used: Predelay 0ms/Length 1,82s/Decay 1,67s). Note that I am using only one reverb with the same settings for both guitar and vocals: That's because I am trying to make it sound like a room, for example if I would be playing in a club on an empty stage. Keep in mind that you may want to do this totally differently, there are no rights or wrongs-If it sounds good to you, then it is GOOD! Sorry about the long message, I hope it helps! LS
