I didn't get to go down last year. Hope to be there again this fall. That whole area is motorcycle heaven. Pro Tip:. Check events schedule so you're not riding with 300 Porsches or Subarus on your trip.

I'm in town for ponies in the smokies with my mustang..a bunch of us drove that road yesterday..I had a blast!!definitely the most fun I've had behind the wheel..and my car has fat n skinny drag wheels so I can't tale cor ears to fast but the car surprisingly well..cant wait to do it again..definitely a must see place for any motorcycle/car enthusiasts
I went to the dragon in 21 with a buddy who invited me and my wife. The whole area calls to me! The land there is special. Can't put my finger on it but it is a magical place and I can't wait to go back and stay longer.

Great comprehensive review, many thanks. I stayed there in 2019 and have booked again for 2021. I love this place. Although it looks like a ghost town in March, once the weather warms up, this place is hopping. Hundreds of bikes. Everything from tricked out dressers to exotic Ducati's. The motel is incredibly reasonably priced. Basic rooms are $69, and the two at the end, closest to the restaurant, called the apartments can sleep six. There is a $10 up charge per person (very reasonable) if the occupancy is above 2. The restaurant food is fairly basic but good. At night, there is a huge firepit. Everyone hangs out swapping stories and drinking beer. You will meet people from every walk of life from all over the world. If you love bikes, this place will become an annual pilgrimage. The Dragon is awesome (there are not buildings or intersecting roads on the Dragon), Moonshiners (take a left leaving Deals Gap) runs 108 miles all the way to Georgia and is a delight. The Cherohala Skyway is a very short ride from the Dragon and is a 50 mile run along the ridge of the Smoky Mountains (no services, gas etc, until the end). The views are stunning.

Did the camping there in Sept 2021 for two nights. Super clean shower and bath next to campground up a small hill. Went and saw Wheels Through Time Museum. More to see than I had time for. Have to go back.

I know the Kawasaki Triple guys usually have a get together at the Gap every year, usually in April or May other 2ts usually show up too

Fontana Dam was built by TVA for the war effort, Cheoah was built by Alcoa Aluminum to help with power for producing aluminum for the war effort. Those worked on Cheoah stay at camp that is now known as Tapoco Lodge, those that work on Fontana were in camp at Fontana Village.
The tent camping is the large grassy area left of the gravel road, the gravel road leads up the hill to the camp shower/restroom...minor detail from a OCD viewer ;)

We were up there last April. Not many people there. It was cold. Stayed at the lodge and woke up to 22 degree weather. Still had a blast though. We rode up from Miami. By the way Connecticut is awesome. Stayed in mystic. Good video

I used to live down the road in a town called Murphy North Carolina. I used to work in Bryson for a company hauling propane gas spent a lot of time up in that area. Riding my 2001 1200 Sportster up around there Fontana lake Fontana dam is really cool and the restaurant there in deals Gap. don't look like it was open in the shooting of this video but a great restaurant great hamburgers it used to be about 4 years ago I haven't been there in about 4 years. Own if you jump over the chihula skyway I think how it pronounced if you come out of tellico plains going down toward robbinsville on your left hand side there is a great little restaurant I believe it's called the beach they have some really good food there's also museum up in tellico plains that was really cool also another place I work.
Cherohala Skyway. It's a beautiful ride as well & not nearly as busy. There's a restaurant in Tellico Plains... Wanna say it's called Iron Works or something like that. Got a lil patio you can eat at beautiful scenery at the patio.
Excellent video, was suppose to ride from Upstate NY to Deals two years, ago but ended up in ICU in VA in Syracuse. My friends did go, and hope to trailer my Can Am down this year. We have family in NC, so I can leave vehicle and trailer there and make a day trip to Deals Gap.
I have to get there in march before it gets busy....
I used to do this every year I only Live 18 miles From the gap Road it many times Took my two boys through the gap several times as they’ve got older they rode their own bikes fun place too many law-enforcement Godspeed
Been there the last 2 yrs. Once in June 20 again in Oct 2020. Love both rides 129 and 28.The grill is pretty good too.

I love going there. The rooms are ok and the cafe is good. Just don't go when there are lots of people there.
My brother and I are riding there in July! I’m riding in from SC and he is riding from TX...meeting up in Nashville for quick visit with parents, then on to the dragon...on sport bikes...probably gonna need to stock up on hemorrhoid cream to survive the ass-carnage, lol. Awesome vid, great coverage!
A lot of great memories. I didn't know Tail of the Dragon was originally called The Dragon. I thought this was to distinguish it from Back of the Dragon.

Wish I had known you were going to be so close ken ...big fan of what you do at museum and the two smoke stuff ....love a ll the vintage stuff and the bikes I grew up with looking ,wishing ,hoping in the magazines for ...I was born in 77 and was a teenager in the 90s when the crs and kx s etc two strokes were really becoming just awesome machines ....I live about an hour west of the smokies in TN actually it's an hour east to knoxville and an hour west to nashville in what is known as middle TN ...I am in the next couple days buying my first xr 650 l or Wr 450 possibly a drz 400 ....just depends on availability ....hoping the 2006 650 xr is still available in next couple days ...hard to find around here but I have watched your channel for several years now and have wanted to buy a dual sport since high school just haven't had the extra income but the time has come brother ....hope to make a trip your way in the next year ....God bless ....keep er up rite the dragon is no joke ....

Ive been to pigeon forge at least twice (family trips), and im sad to say I found out after that its that close to the dragon. I must not be a true bike or car enthusiast, definitely added it to the list if im ever back out that way.

Second Shot at Redemption. He carried me out of that Rock Bottom Hole, Umpteen times, with it getting worse each time around, just as it's supposed too, with each relapse. I just know these 9 years, short of losing my Parents, have been some of the best years of my life. I was still drugging heavily, I wouldn't have been able to afford to buy the 1985 Yamaha 2 stroke RZ 350 Kenny Roberts Edition. Nice to look at nice things, that I have worked my ass off to buy, and the best feeling in the world, is my knowing that they will remain where they are, and never be pawned, traded, or sold to buy evil drugs. Deals gap is a couple hours away from my house. I wish we could ban Nubees and Harley bagger and dresser riders. They ruined everything with their slow heavy bikes and lack of skill and physical fitness.
