I just bought my duke 390. I’ve been having trouble shifting gears. 1-2 is smooth, 2-3-4 is horrrrrible when in slow speeds. When I’m on the highway it does not clunk and make a heavy dhukkkkk sound, but when I’m slow.. ughhhh, I feel like I’m hurting the bike.
Was frustrated n your video taught me something new about my bike so I’m happier now haha. Thanks man.

U think its redlining shift up and if u downshift and u feel engine brake is applied quickly engage the clutch and shift up or apply brake. I don't like using engine braking but professionals use it so its as per ur wish.

Thankyou so much! I was thinking this only since a few days that I am doing something wrong! & you just dropped the video today on this! I corrected myself by releasing 20-30% clutch before with just a little bit throttle, the bike goes ahead smoothly! Before I use to give more than a little throttle & the bike just revved so much that my dad got off the backseat in middle of the traffic! My dad just serviced the whole engine a few days ago! Hope I don't break it! I am a beginner!

    Nope.
If that were the case, slow speed control would destroy every clutch on every motorcycle ever made.
You know (most) motorcycles have a wet clutch right?
Let it warm up properly before you ride and like my 90k mile FZS 1000 it'll never need replacing.

    • @rahulbhutani1981
      @rahulbhutani1981 5 лет назад +3

@@ashish00007 Well, the standard protocol is, unlike chapris, one should slow down and stop at yellow light itself, bring the engine to neutral, turn it off and start when It turns green or is about to (like 5 seconds left at the timer). For bumper to bumper traffic I continue to ride in 3rd gear which goes from 12kmph and all the way upto 75kmph . For any speeds lower than that I stay in 2nd gear which again goes from 0 upto 40kmph without too much stress. I do not engage the clutch even when I am not accelerating, the engine breaking plays a crucial role here, I just drop a gear or two and continue.

Hey nice video, will also recommend not pulling the clutch all the way back, that's a dead zone anyhow, you can have it disengaged without all the way back. Then you can change gears more smoothly verse all the way back then you have to release like halfway before it bites. Also at a light, if you do go nuetral make sure your bike is pointed at an exit so you can pop it into gear for those who don't stop behind you, then you don't get hit.

I've learned today that I'm doing the wrong thing since many years with the clutch. Moreover I've seen people using the clutch till their biting point in traffic which is the major cause for burning the plates. Hope I added this as well😀

I told him not to do that.

Sourav Hore Upshifting at higher rpm wont damage motorcycle but you should let go off throttle. I'm not sure about downshifts

Recommended to use clutch while down shifting always.
If done correctly up shifting needs very little or no clutch 👍

I'm going to choose my engine oil based on what's going to best protect my engine and internal components.... Since the clutch plates themselves are very inexpensive, but the engine are very expensive.... I'll use the synthetic that better protect the engine, and risk having to replace my plates earlier.
    Good video my.friend!

In the US we say to leave it in first gear. We play the friction zone when at stop, ready to move in a hurry if trouble arises.

When moving fast, is it ok to pull the clutch in fully (disengaging) after completing each acceleration? I've seen that the bike moves smoothly and noiselessly when I do that, but someone told me it could reduce the life of the clutch plates.
    Great job on this video!
