My Mom used to make blackberry cobbler but with a pie crust. It was delicious. She also used to make blackberry jelly. We grew strawberries, raspberry and blackberries in our garden besides all the vegetables to feed 10 people. Mom and Dad had six children and our maternal grandparents lived with us, as well. I had a great childhood and was raised in faith with our heavenly Lord.
Blackberry cobbler is one of my favorite desserts. Years ago my parents and I were visiting my aunt and uncle in Oregon. A friend of theirs had blackberries growing in their yard and they invited us to come pick some. My mom made a blackberry cobbler for dessert that night. It was the best blackberry cobbler I've had before or since. I'm certain it was due to the freshness of those delicious berries.
There is a difference when the berries are that fresh! And you were invested in the cobbler since you picked the berries and that makes it taste better, too!
Thank you Tom & Melissa. Every recipe you make is so delicious. Haven't made a disappointing recipe yet. We enjoy you both so much. Thank you Kris and Ron
Thank you! We are on our way home from a wedding and I'm sharing comments with Tom as we drive along. We really appreciate that you are at the table with us.
I love my momma’s blackberry cobbler. No one could make a cobbler like her. I miss her terribly. Love watching every video you & Melissa share with us. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you so much for watching. We really are happy to read that you enjoy the recipes. We have been blessed with almost thirty years of marriage. It's hard to believe that! Time sure does fly by.
@@maryannmjones6021 Hello, I am sure you can use frozen. Definitely! It is a nice thought to pick fresh blackberries from the tree. My parents have a garden in their backyard with a couple of apple trees, fig trees, tomatoes plants and herbs. It takes a great deal of care, but it is worth it.
Been making a cobbler like this for years, but only big enough for a 9×9" pan. I am thrilled to now have a recipe for a 9×13" pan! This is fantastic, because my husband and I love this cobbler. So, now, we'll have that much more to enjoy! Thank you, so much!
This looks delicious! I’ve never made a blackberry cobbler but my mother made them every summer after picking wild blackberries. They were so good! She didn’t keep sparkling sugar - not even sure it was available back in the 1960’s when I was growing up! She made her cobblers with regular crust, whipped an egg yolk for egg wash and then sprinkled regular granulated sugar on top of the crust. When it was done she would serve it sweet cream, not whipped cream. I still have no idea how she made sweet cream! But the entire concoction was oh sooo good!!!
I agree. I love him in bright colors - especially blue because of his eyes. I'll pass along your appreciation for his shirt. We hope you get to try the cobbler soon. Thank you so much for watching our channel.

Thank you both for another recipe that must be made soon. The cobbler looks wonderful and thanks always for including the recipe. Blackberries are so good
We really enjoyed this cobbler, and we hope you do get to enjoy it soon. Thank you very much for watching our channel. Hope you are having a lovely Sunday afternoon.
Oh the fun days of picking berries...or beans, or peas, or corn, or whatever else we had to pick and then process during the summer. The best thing about it, though, was great food coming from it like this. Cobbler is a personal favorite, and blackberry or dewberry cobbler probably tops that list (might be peach). This type of cobbler is also my favorite. My dad preferred a cobbler that had more of a pie crust, but that never kept him from eating this type when it was made. The butter makes it so good.
Summer does gift us with an abundance of wonderful fruit and vegetable options. We really are happy that you joined us at the table. We hope you can make a cobbler soon.
My mom made a great blackberry cobbler! It was her favorite. Nana would make homemade blackberry ice cream and surprise us with it. What sweet, delicious memories! ❤❤
Brings back memories of my mom and grandma making fresh blackberry and peach cobblers. We’d put butter and cream on top. My absolute favorites. Love your colorful shirt. Hi Melissa. 🔥👍❤
Hello Darlene! Tom and I love how food can connect us to so many sweet memories. I am so happy this recipe did that for you. Thank you so much for watching our channel and joining us at the table.
Love this easy recipe! It was totally different from my mom’s but this was a huge hit with my family in France, using blackberries from my father-in-law’s garden. They also loved that the recipe came from Kentucky.
My husband loves blackberry cobbler! His Granny made it in WV when he lived there as a child. She made it in a 13x9 pan w/a pie crust on it. I am making your recipe for him right now. It’s in the oven. I got some vanilla ice cream for it too. We love your videos. Keep ‘em coming! ❤
I use that same recipe with the exception of the flour and baking powder, I just use self rising flour and sprinkle sugar on top also. The sugar cooking on top makes it crunchy and so yummy! I found the recipe in the newspaper years ago and it was called rise to the top cobbler crust!
I agree with you that the sugar baking on top makes such a nice crunchy top on the cobbler. And the substitution of the self-rising flour works fine too. Cobblers have been around for a very long time, but they are still loved today. Thank you so much for being at the table with us.
I made blackberry cobbler the same day that you made yours. I absolutely loved your recipe. It was delicious. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us.
Hello again, I know this is about blueberries. I already had a made a comment, but I must add. I finally got to make the spinach lasanga roll ups. It came out delicious! Thank you Tom and Melissa! Now will give this recipe a go as well.
We are so glad to hear that you made the lasagna roll ups and enjoyed them like we do. 😊 We love getting feedback on a recipe once people have tried it. Thank you so much for watching and we hope you enjoy the cobbler as well.
The summer harvest is so good, and we love cooking with fresh produce! Thank you very much for watching our channel. It's great having you at the table with us.
Brings back great memories from my childhood, picking blackberries and watching for snakes! These are were wild berries and the best ones always grew in thick brush and weeds, where you could easily get on a snake! 😂 I grew up in Arkansas and snakes were always around in the Summer. I really enjoy watching your videos and hearing the stories that go with the recipes. I can tell you were a great teacher by the way you explain everything. Melissa, I’m sure you were a great teacher as well. We just don’t get the chance to “know” you as well behind the camera! Those berries were so big and beautiful! I hope you picked enough to freeze some!😊
I'm not a snake fan AT ALL so your story about watching for snakes while picking blackberries was enough to give me nervous good bumps! Tom was a great teacher and you're right; his teaching skills still shine through in the kitchen. We actually have 8 more cups of berries tucked away in the freezer waiting for something delicious to be created. Makes me smile just to know they are waiting on us.
My mom loved to pick blackberries in pastures or side of road. She usually made blackberry dumplings. These were delicious and now at 83 I still carry on her dumpling craze. God Bless.
I love that story! And I'm so glad you are carrying on your mother's "dumpling craze." We really appreciate that you are watching our channel. Have a wonderful day!
You brought back old memories of my mother-in-law (Granny as she was known) from Kentucky that fixed blackberry cobbler every year after her and papaw picked them. Ty.
Honestly, this is a simple recipe to make, and I know you can do it. Just take your time and don't feel stressed or pressured. Your friends and family will love that you've made something so delicious! You CAN do it!
I picked lots of blackberries this year. Today I’m going to give one of my clients a massage and afterwords she’s serving us lunch and I am bringing the cobbler:). It’s early in the morning in Michigan and I just made the cobbler. Thank you very much for your help.❤!
Great looking Blackberry Cobbler Recipe that you made this morning Tom and Melissa and thanks to your friends for sharing their blackberries. Looked so good fresh out of the oven, Fred.
We do have wonderful neighbors and we are so fortunate that they generously share with us. Their berries are beautiful. Thank you for being at the table with us.
We are so glad you can use this recipe. How nice that you have your own blackberry vines! We are blessed with a neighbor who tells us to pick whenever we want. We made a pie and froze eight cups for a nice cobbler or two next winter!
I really enjoy this channel and it even though I can't have 99% of the desserts due to diabetes but I can make for my Ministry and church functions. Maybe Tom can come up with something diabetic friendly??? I think that man can make anything!!. I work with vulnerable and marginalized adults who seem to be left to fall through the cracks...
Now that's a cobbler!! People tend to call things cobblers that I just don't see as a cobbler but I guess it just depends on what part of the country you grew up in. But here in SC, where I grew up, this is the real deal. And delicious!! Wish I had a blackberry bush. But store bought ones work just fine 🙂 The weather seems to play a part in whether you're going to need to add more liquid to a batter and it's always funny how it always seems to vary slightly any time I make the batter. I love how in tune you are to the internet "food police" who are always stressing about some part of anybody's recipe 😂 I'm not even a content creator but I can hear them mumbling too. Carry on, sir. You're a mighty good cook!! 👍 ❤
Thank you so much for the kind words. It's easy to get the mumbling sounds stuck in our ears. We really appreciate that you are watching our channel. Hope you can try out our cobbler soon.
Hello. I'm a new subsciber. I watched this video this morning, and made the cobbler with blueberries this evening. It is out of this world! I halved the recipe, and accidentally added too much milk. Ended up covering it eith foil and baking it longer. We ate the whole thing. Can't wait to try more of your recipes. Thanks!
I have a very similar recipe and love it with any berries, as you said. Sometimes, flour gets dry and requires more liquid. You need milk over that cobbler! Well, that's the way we like it. Thanks for sharing. We used to pick black raspberries in the area of Eastern West Virgina where I grew up. They made great cobler, jelly and pies. We also had lots of peach orchards. They make great cobbler, jam and pies.
Summer offers us a lot of wonderful fruits and vegetables to work with each year. Just reading your comment makes me want some nice jam on a piece of toast this morning. We appreciate that you are watching our channel. It's great having you at our table with us.
It would be delicious with apple pie filling. We are so glad you made your own version using this recipe. We love feedback from a happy viewer who has tried the recipe.
❤❤❤❤❤ Lucky you to have a generous neighbor with an over abundance of blackberries! I’ve been loving your channel! You and Melissa are so real. Thank you for all your hard efforts to make a great videos and bring us fantastic recipes. I’m sure I’m not the first fan to suggest a Come Sit at My Table cookbook. 😊
Thank you so much! We are days away from taking the cookbook to the printers! We’re very excited to be so close to having it completed. We will announce on our channel when it’s available. Thank you for your support and encouragement!
I love blackberry cobbler, but I love blackberry dumplings the best; my mom always made them as a special treat for us; sometimes she’d make them for us in the winter too from the berries she had frozen❤️; thank you for your videos!
I Love, Love Blackberries! I can't wait to make this. My husband and I sit in our living room while eating dinner. We have certain you tube channels in our line up that we check out daily. Your channel is one of them. I have made a few of your recipes. They are always fantastic! I've made the most recent mac and cheese and taco casserole. Loved them! I'm sure Tom has told us what you both used to teach but I missed it somewhere. So will he please mention it again? I think you both are adorable. I'm 45 my husband and I have been together 19yrs. He is a rare kind of man (one of the very good and special ones) Tom is that kind of guy too. I know I got lucky! I hope we are as happy as you two are when we retire. Goals!!
Your comment is so sweet. We really appreciate that you are watching our channel. It sounds like we both have so blessed to have married two of the good guys. I am very grateful for a good marriage. Tom mainly taught fifth grade in his teaching career. I started teaching fourth grade and jokingly say I was promoted two years later to fifth grade. Halfway through my career I moved to second grade and stayed there until I retired. We had great careers and now we are thoroughly enjoying retirement.
I’m going to try this recipe this weekend…haven’t had blackberry cobbler for years. So tomorrow we are stopping at our local farmer’s stand and get the blackberries. Your blackberries looked so large! And I have raw sugar so I’m sure it will work the same as your sugar did. Thank you!!
Tom you always make the best food and dessert. I'm going to make a cherry cobbler and use your recipe. God bless you Tom and Melissa. You have a blessing headed your way 🙏 Thank you for sharing ❤
Lucky you that you have your own bushes! I bet you enjoy this cobbler all summer long! Thanks so much for being at the table with us. We really do appreciate that you are watching our channel.
Now I got to make a cooler, I will take it to my sister in law.She is no longer able to cook. I know she will love it.. Thank you for all of your wonderful recipes.😊
We are so happy you are going to make it and take it to her. How sweet of you. Enjoy the cobbler and your time together. Thank you so much for watching our channel.
The realm you need different amounts of milk each time you use flour is because flour density varies according to its container. It settles and then your measuring cup is off because it’s picking up more or less dense flour. Real ‘bakers’ will weigh the flour. But it doesn’t hurt to adjust your milk for a regular recipe. Great looking cobbler! God bless!
Now we're talking. Blackberry, anything is my favorite and especially cobbler.
Glad we hit a homerun with you! Thanks so much for watching our channel.

I love anything blackberry. I grew up on blackberry dumplings. The best thing about 4th of July being over is blackberry time.

You are welcome. We love that you are going to try our cobbler. Enjoy and have a great evening.
Thanks!
Love your Hawaiian shirt, Tom!! This recipe is a winner! Thanks for sharing!❤
Making this tomorrow to surprise the hubby. Thank you
We are so glad you are going to make it. We hope he loves it! Thank you very much for watching our channel.
This does look so good. Thank you for sharing your recipe. Many thumbs up. Stay well & safe.
Thank you. We hope you can try it soon. Thank you so much for being at the table with us.
I happened to be canning apple pie filling today. I had left over filling and made this using half the amounts. This is soooo good!
It would be delicious with apple pie filling. We are so glad you made your own version using this recipe. We love feedback from a happy viewer who has tried the recipe.
I made this today! I used blueberries and added vanilla to the batter and it was soooo good!
You are welcome. Your mom's blackberry dumplings sound great, too! Especially in the wintertime made from frozen berries.
Thank you!!
You’re welcome! We hope you enjoy it like we do. Thank you so much for watching our channel.

We had a lot of BlackBerry vines also and I remember the chiggers bites too. 😂 But my mom made many BlackBerry pies and they were so good.😋
The realm you need different amounts of milk each time you use flour is because flour density varies according to its container. It settles and then your measuring cup is off because it’s picking up more or less dense flour. Real ‘bakers’ will weigh the flour. But it doesn’t hurt to adjust your milk for a regular recipe. Great looking cobbler! God bless!
i’d also say probably because he doesn’t level the flower off just a thought but it doesn’t hurt nothing no biggie to add a little extra milk 😅
