Jerimy built my custom J3 (jazz bass/G3 combo) and the dude is a monster. From start to finish detail, craftsmanship, Jerimy is the man. A true dream on paper to it being built, Jerimy is the best.
Longtime fan of the G-3/Bass Channel here- The tones are so incredibly similar, but to my ear the tribute G-3 sounds more open, or like full-spectrum? Maybe hi-fi is a good word. it seems like the ‘78 has a more-mellow, strange kinda choking in the low mids, resulting in that signature, vintage-y clank. Maybe it’s just a difference in the resistance of the pots being used for the two, or an additional capacitor, idk I’m not a guitar tech hahaha Never heard of Decibel before but these builds are SO legit!! Gripper is such a clever but obvious name for a Grabbber/Ripper tribute model, can’t wait to see what else Jerimy creates (maybe a take on the 80’s Candy Apple Red G-3’s with black pup covers?? 🤤)
Good ear. I hear the gripper being more punchy but the 78 has some serious character that I think you expect from older instruments. It’s got built in mojo!
In a color they look decent and I can listen to the tone. The natural finish in particular makes them look huge and clunky, like a Norwegian kitchen table from the 70s.
goddamn that Decibel sounded fucking incredible!!! I only notice a little more openness from the OG G-3 but the sound profile is pretty much to the tee!
I have a gripper style build from Jerimy and it’s one of my favorite basses I’ve ever owned. I have a few vintage Gibson basses and this can hang with the best of them.
After 10 years of not playing bass, I'm back and the gear bug is back with a vengeance. I just bought a used Sterling stingray and I love it. I'm watching this video and I have to suppress that "gotta have it" feeling.😢
G3 is just better sounding IMO, like yes, the grabber sounds awesome, but the sound the G3 gets in each demo just sounds cleaner, better, and so perfect (dont come at me) this is what my ears are hearing
The basses sound different, the new bass sounds darker, a tad more bottom end, but actually more low mids. The gibson's pickups might have some windings shorting or are actually lower impedance (which implies lower capacitance), and that might be a reason why the tone is different. The gibson's pickup magnets mightve lost some stranght too, the newer bass sounds boomier, as if the signal was higher and it was equalized in post.
@@everyvillainislarry totally different beasts - my 51 P has a 5 way switch, and is very mid-centric. The G-3 pickups are more scooped depending on the setting
@@christopherfidler3019 let me rephrase that. You commented this because you are essentially holding out for that yes? So this build and this bass isn’t something you are even considering purchasing. So initially your concern is cost I would suspect. Its most likely certain Epiphone will be considerably cheaper but a custom built true to spec version of the original to a mass produced assembled and built overseas made alternative will live up to the cheaper price. Especially with the electronics. Also tbh while I see it as a PSA you’re essentially advertising for something on a small business owners review of his builds. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional but that is kinda not cool.
Doesn't hold a candle to the original, it sounds like a basic P-bass. Would be better off spending $800 on something like a Player II given you get a wildly similar sound.
I'm sorry but I struggle to see how Gibson won't sue this company if they gwt on their radar. They couldn't change the headstock a bit more? Seems like they're playing with fire honestly
Well I’m no lawyer so I’m not sure on the intricacies of it all. While I share the concern I’m sure there is some work around… perhaps in what you can and cannot copyright a la fender style basses everywhere but they are not fenders if that makes sense
If you look closely, there are differences between the bodies, Gibson can't sue if it's substantially different enough from their original or subsequent design, which this is.

Maaaannnnnnn these truly look and sound SO DAMN GOOD
It’s crazy how punchy and good these are!
Yoyo! Patrick! Like your channel!
Hahaha I could totally hear that in your voice. 😆

You have to add that the Gibson was played 46 years which adds a lot in sound! But this Dezibel is KILLER!!!!

NIce, never expected to hear Cake's Going The Distance. What a great band
I just bought a 78 Grabber sliding pickup version about an 8 out of 10. It is awesome but that g3 is killer. Gibson got something right on these.
G3 is just better sounding IMO, like yes, the grabber sounds awesome, but the sound the G3 gets in each demo just sounds cleaner, better, and so perfect (dont come at me) this is what my ears are hearing
Wow, that sounds and looks killer! This builder is now on my radar.

One of these with the sliding pickup would be great!
I have two builds from Jerimy - the first Gee-3 with 3 '51 P pickups, and another later one with the Curtis Novak repros. :) Jerimy is the man!!!
Agreed! I wanna get more of his stuff for the channel some day! This build is spectacular!
How would you compare the 51 p’s to the repro pickups?
@@everyvillainislarry totally different beasts - my 51 P has a 5 way switch, and is very mid-centric. The G-3 pickups are more scooped depending on the setting
How we do to reach that guy. I wanna order one
Hey epiphone is making mike dirnt g3 soon. Can’t wait for that one.
Love the sound!! And the shape!! You guys have any idea if there is an gig bag that would fit these? Looks kinda wide for a Mono/RB.
it's "generic bass sound" in the best way possible! hope this luthier gets lots of business!
Epiphone is releasing the g3 Mike dirnt bass soon :) Also a grabber version with no sliding pickup
Gostei do baixo bem bonito e som aveludado
Sounds very similar
Hey man KILLER!!!! video
Really cool! ❤❤❤❤
I NEED to know what those metal potiknobs are called and where to get them!! ❤
Tone between the two basses would probably be much much closer if the pickups were in the exact same locations.
They are
They look spot on
It's a good thing they are then.
I have one of those!
i think that the bridge position compared to the bridge pickup is different, at least visually
i like a hipshot bridge. the A style. right.
Yup!
Are the scale lengths the same?
Yes they are!
Looks like their instagram page was removed? And their facebook only has pictures of cabinet builds. These guys need a website.
The only thing I don't like is the fretboard hanging over the pickguard and not rounding the corners.
Which bridge is that?
Hipshot A
Epiphone Mike Dirnt Signature G3 is coming soon
🙂↔️ not even close to a comparison. A mass produced assembly
Line instrument compared to this is crazy
@@Therealchuckbailey Chuck, I can't compare something that doesn't exist yet. it was a PSA.

Wrong, I'm not holding out for anything. I play a Dingwall C5.
@@christopherfidler3019 👍🏼
review a eb5. like a 2017. ,2019.
Why oh why put the selector switch so close to the strings where it can easily be knocked? Tragic
Had 0 issues but I don’t play with a pick much so maybe that’s why? Idk.
Looks like Gibson sued them out of existence
What is the name of this company…?
Decibel Sound Implements

They will 100% sue them.
Gibson never had a copyright on this shape as they did the LP or SG or V. So it’s perfect.
Such a bummer that he appears to have dropped off the face of the internet
Sounds great but no matter how many times I revisit grabbers, i just can’t get past how damn ugly those headstocks are. Hate those things.
